Thanks so much for the great videos!! I have a question.... In your original unboxing starting aura, you mentioned the glow forge products your cut engrave have a mask on it and i thought you said if you didnt have proofgrade you should mask? None of these were, is there certain things that need be be masked? I wanted to try to get the balsa wood from home depos since its so much less, but concered about the "masking"
Definitely if you are cutting I would mask. You don't have to generally for engraving but again you can if you would like. I just cleaned these after I engraved.
Hi Angie! So it's okay to print on say the cutting board with out the masking on it? Also, once it's engraved is it safe to assume it's no longer food/washing safe you think, but more decorative at that point?
The way I did the cutting board, I would not use it again as food would get in all of those grooves. If you put something on the edge of the cutting board, I would still use the middle. And yes you can do things like this without a masking! I did clean it up a bit as there was some brown around the edges.
When purchasing say wood from Hobby Lobby, Micheal’s, JoAnn’s etc., how do we know what’s laser ready or not? When ordering on amazon, it usually states if it is or not. 😊
Hi Ms. Angie, I received a reply from you stating that the aura does not engrave clear acrylic, I tried the proofgrade material made especially for aura and still can't get it to engrave.
Thank you for your videos! Yours are the only videos I could find for the Aura that actually showed how to do anything other than the very basics! ❤
Happy to help!
I just bought a Glowforge Aura. Thanks for your videos.
Happy to help!
That's pretty cool! I especially like the slate coaster. It came out really great!
I love it!!

I have searched everywhere for a setting for marble
I have not done marble yet sorry!
Very cool!!!

I would love this but I need one to engrave on tumblers. What laser do you recommend for engraving tumblers?
Maybe try the Hey Let’s Make Stuff TH-cam channel. Or google Xtool M1 or F1. I don’t have those but that should get you some info.

Do you need to put transfer paper on your wood to get a better engraving? I’ve seem some people do that.
It just prevents burn marks on the edges. You can add transfer tape or you can clean off when done.
Please help me! Can I engrave on my new Glowforge aura with clear acrylic? what is the sign on icon, and format?
The Aura will not do clear acrylic.
When purchasing say wood from Hobby Lobby, Micheal’s, JoAnn’s etc., how do we know what’s laser ready or not? When ordering on amazon, it usually states if it is or not. 😊
I would get unfinished wood or something that has a natural finish (like cutting boards that are food safe).

Clear will NOT work with the Aura. The proofgrade material should only say Aura on it for the version that is not clear.
Do you know how to calibrate Aura? My engraving doesnt go for right place.
Hmmm...Maybe look at your lighting. I have found with direct lights it throws the camera off so I have to turn off some of my video lights.
what happens if the image is square and the object is round and the images goes off the object?
It could cut into the grid or the bottom of the laser.
Which Facebook group are you apart of for the Glowforge?
Actually several! I joined most of the "beginner" groups as they seemed helpful!
@@AngieHolden Ok! I will look up some. I just ordered my Aura today!
Maybe I missed it, but why did you need to remove the grate for the slate? Why couldn’t you put the slate directly on the grate?
It was over 1/4 inch with the feet. Just slightly.
@@AngieHolden Ahhh. Thank you, Angie. My wife and I love your videos.
Do you mind maybe linking a square board that can work
Thank you 🩵
I have only tried the products shown.
It sold out lol @@AngieHolden
