The words 'Hard Lock Counter' tells me everything I need to know about this level.
I love how the softlock music is the ONE thing that keeps playing in frozen time. It could not be more perfect
I showed this to some friends on discord and their first reaction was "Carl should be arrested" 🤣
This has got to be hands down THE BEST TROLL level ever created.
1. Hardlocks.
2. Softlocks.
3. No anti-softlocks.
4. Guts
5. Geek falling for every troll many many many times.

Somehow, Tanuki Dan got through the heart section multiple times without getting hardlocked. It baffled everyone, especially Carl

Geek's love for bridges FINALLY serves a purpose! At least she found the p-Switch. DGR went almost half an hour not seeing it an repeatedly trying to beat the 5 golden swings.

No no no, the level that makes her love for bridges serve a purpose is a troll level by "Scriv" called "#Gerk Builds A Bridge" (course ID T9N-1GL-1KG)

Worse, "There's no anti-softlocks, relax." No antis, just actual softlocks as well as hardlocks. You know, the very things anti-softlocks were designed to avoid. Well, softlocks anyway. Not really much you can do to get out of a hardlock if you've already triggered it. That said, I wouldn't put it past someone to figure out how to do an anti-hardlock. As I understand it, the game is still running during a hardlock, it's just that it's stuck waiting for a function to finish running that will never actually finish. If there was some way to abort that function and force the game to continue, then maybe...

I love that Carl is just the nicest and most wholesome guy and accumulates a bunch of goodwill from everyone and then throws it all away in an instant.

I think you misunderstand: he pours all his malice and desire to watch people suffer into these levels and that leaves him as such a wholesome guy outside this that everyone forgives him for these evil levels

My favorite part is how she never figured out that she could avoid a lot of pain by starting over just before the hardlock happens.

Everytime Carl plays troll level, he absorbed evil thing from each level and combined it in his own level.
@@alvianekka80 Yeah. Carl isn't playing troll levels for fun. He's playing them to absorb all their evil energy to then let it out every few months!
I'm guessing there's probably a jump table containing pointers to different functions based on the wiggler's state, and bumping the wiggler out of the water changes the state to a value which does not have a proper entry in the jump table, leading the game to jump to an invalid pointer and hang.
The title screen troll was absolutely brilliant.

@@Mr7Shane The game technically is frozen. There are a ton of reasons why the audio would still play despite this crashed state depending on the engine, how the software was designed, the hardware, and so on. Sometimes the processes for game and music are separate, meaning that while the game has crashed and is frozen, the music will still play whatever was last playing, and because there's no further instructions being sent, IE: Stop music, the radio will continue to play that music until you reset or the hardware dies.
I'm gonna guess it's simpler than that. It looks like wigglers aren't really knocked away by the shellmet when they're barely underwater, causing continuous collisions that overwhelm the game.
@@galewin8942 I'd think this, jump table sounds very unlikely.
Could also just be the main game loop having a "return" in it for undefined behaviour to avoid a crash (well that didn't work out did it) and "knocking out of the water" was probably missed on wigglers specifically, so there is nothing defining what the game should do, so the main game loop just keeps doing nothing, while the music on a different thread keeps playing as normal.
Might also be an event based system and no events get sent anymore because of the return
Basically yeah. The game just doesn't have it programmed for a wiggler in the water to be bumped from below by a shellmet.
My favorite part is the Nintendo employee who wakes up and suddenly sees tens of thousands of crash reports.
I love how excited Geek is for CP1 in a level with hardlocks.

And love how Carl will play trolls and spaghetti, go carlblind, and get played like a fiddle, but in between he's seeing things he likes, not even trolls just basic concepts or memes, that he turns into evil masterpieces.

Never thought the wind section would be the nice part of a Carl level.
I like that she praises Carl saying that it wasn't that bad and was just funny because it didn't have long hard sections between the hard locks... That's just because he ran out of sprites. He's not really that nice.
The most shocking thing about watching every person play this level is how ungodly long it took each of them to learn to start over instead of closing the game. Geek unfortunately never learned, much like carl himself.

@@luigiongaming3959 from what I understand, Geek gets "Karen" emote spam if she starts a level over for some reason, and it's become a meme in her community to make fun of her for starting over.
So by allowing the hard lock or closing the game as if she hard locked instead it's like taking her loss to the hard lock because she deserved it.
It's like losing with grace and dignity.

I think I laughed the loudest and most frequently at this level, more than any I've seen in a long time. But "bridges!" at the end really did me in.
Thank you for the laugh watching the pure horror every time a hard lock came up was the kind of medicine I needed. Also thank you putting yourself through all that for Entertainment

I think if I made my own Mario Maker style game, I'd add categories for glitched levels and hacked levels. And probably just outright give full scripting control for levels the creator wants to flag as "hacked". This way, levels such as this that feature hardlocks or other glitches can be sorted into the glitched category, while those with hacks such as the blocks you can walk through could be sorted into the hacked category, and then both those categories could be excluded from whatever Endless mode exists. This would allow such levels to exist without ruining the fun for people who don't want to encounter them. I would likewise add a troll category, though I may or may not exclude that from an Endless mode.
Endless Mode, which excludes glitched, hacked, and troll levels by default, and have a separate modifier that allows you to include levels tagged as troll levels, or a series of boxes to check that let you add in the glitched levels as well.
