That minor key rendition of the slider theme awoke a nameless fear within me
With the exception of the anti-softlock room, this level wasn't too demonic. In later version he removed the mini-bowser that spawns out of the quit pipe so you still had to go to the top.
Differences I noticed to the other version:
The 'Quit' pipe does not spawn the spikey guy when you return. So no easy Quit possible.
At the 'You Fail' part with the bowser-stun and the Donuts, the other version has a full row of donuts - making it seem more like there is a path above you have to get through while avoiding the stun. The row of donuts also makes it so that you usually get down onto the moving floor while stunned, and are moved back to the starting point of that stunlock challenge. Thus the only solution is to jump on some of the donuts, get stunned and moved back to start, then go again before the donuts respawn - since there are no spots where you can fall down without donuts otherwise (and donuts only fall if you stand long enough that the stun also hits you).

Carl put a near-endless P switch timer in his Carl vs Poo troll level. Afterwards, Geek made a level with a much worse version of it. She freaked because she expected to be stuck in a P timer loop for much longer - all her comments about it being nice and it could've been more evil. That's why the Geek reference was just before the P Door section.

Yeah several people refused to quit and died on the spike. I think Poo even got there with a mushroom and tried to enter the pipe.

Sometimes, the only winning move is not to play.
The level is actually nice, except the anti-softlock. That section was like the spawn of Satan. When Ryu played this stage, Boom-Boom was removed in the anti-softlock area making it completely difficult to climb just to die on the spike. Guess you were lucky to play this one early, else you would've had a hard time to deal with the anti-softlock.
His 'getting over it' level was worse because that level was a gigantic anti-softlock. And the only way to do, is to climb to the top and there is literally no way to die in the climbing process. The wind physics is idk, bad?

I've only watched troll levels. And haven't played them. It looks hilarious. Not sure if it's as fun to play it. Regardless, I imagine the frustration is way worse if you actually have experience with regular levels that teach you a bunch of friendly patterns.

@@FreakAndGeek Nah. I've been watching the likes of Carl, Ryu, Juz, and yourself on TH-cam for about 2 years, so I had a pretty good idea what to expect from a well-crafted troll level. I just got SMM2 around Christmas. I thought about playing some, but the only ones I would know how to find, I had already watched someone beat it, which takes a lot of the fun from playing a troll level.

Something much more fun when you're not playing at PG.
I'm just curious about something: was it not immediately obvious that the last section was a twice twice? Everyone reacted the same way, but I was pretty certain it was the end, being as it mimicked the WORST part of the level. Am I just being cocky, or are these reactions pretty much theatrics? I can't accept that I caught something before seasoned gamers caught it, being that Freakandgeek and EVERYONE else in the Mario maker community game circles around me...
P.S. I am willing to accept that I am missing the point... It's pretty obvious that the Mario maker community has genuine love for one another, and I will argue that Carl's level design choices demonstrate (however frustratingly) genuine empathy. He gives the legit thrills... If I missed something, I am willing to acknowledge it.
I can only speak for myself, but for me it’s all about the person who made the level. Do they have the evilness to send you back into a horrible antisoftlock? If it was Defender I would have suspected that it was the end. However being it was Carl (and his entire Getting Over It level was a giant anti softlock) it’s absolutely probable he would send you right back there.
Also it’s dependant on the type of troll level it is. The really devilish ones (which is what this was presented as when sent to me) definitely would send you right back to an antisoftlock with no hesitation.
You also need to remember that when you are on stream you also have chat. Your brain is half in the level and half in chat/talking. So when you hear that antisoftlock music it’s more or less a surprise as your brain is focusing on multiple things.
That’s my take anyways :)
