  • The AP Racing Sprint kit is a top notch product and I will be going through the whole install process in this video. The Sprint BBK is very lightweight while also improving braking capability and efficiency for track days and performance driving. This video will cover the AP Racing Sprint kit DIY process following the included instructions. I will also include additional tips and tricks in the howto video.
    If you are installing this Sprint kit on a Subaru BRZ, Scion FRS, or Toyota 86, please follow the instruction manual. My videos are for reference only and should not be substituted for the included instructions.

      Justin's Pit Lane Next time you replace callipers or whatever, take a bar or 2x4 or something and press the brake pedall and use it to lock the pedal in place. Doing so will block the liquid in the system. Good luck. Cristian from Romania.

    You should do a how to on bleeding the calipers as they are a different design than the stock calipers. Also, when you change your current brakes to other brakes a quick video on that? If not the same video for the brake bleeding. Keep up the good work Justin!

    • @TheBTRGarage
      @TheBTRGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have! Check out this video : th-cam.com/video/JfZUv-GqHew/w-d-xo.html
      The bleeding process is the same as stock calipers, you just have 2 calipers sides to bleed on the AP brakes versus 1 on the stock brakes. I think in the AP brakes install video I show how the pads go in, if you are talking about changing pads. Thanks for the comments!

    Have you ever tried completely depressing the brake pedal and locking it there before removing the lines? For me it made the leakage almost disappear when the lines where disconnected.

    Hi Justin, firstly, thanks so much for making these videos. They are very informative, entertaining, and clearly presented! Question on the brake kit: have you had any issues with caliper clearance with your wheels and the AP kit? Also, do you know how much the AP calipers differ in size with the Brembo kits that come standard in the performance package? Thanks!

    • @TheBTRGarage
      @TheBTRGarage  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure thing, glad you enjoy the videos! AP Racing has a list of wheels that will clear the Sprint brake kit. I am not sure what the size difference is between the Brembo PP brakes. The AP brakes are superior though in a number of ways.

    When you install a big brake kit on the front , do you need to pair it with a rear version of the exact BBK? Most stores I have looked at mainly have the front bbk kits but don’t have the rear versions?

    • @TheBTRGarage
      @TheBTRGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The AP Racing Sprint kit, like this one, is meant to be installed with OEM rear brakes. A lot of them are designed like that. But, you can get matching sets for the rear of course.

    Good install video. Your hatred for brake fluid is hilarious. Were u experiencing brake fade at the events? Kinda curious why you need them over stock.

    • @TheBTRGarage
      @TheBTRGarage  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! Yes, I have a strong distaste for brake fluid :)
      No brake fade at autocross. The primary benefit for autocross is reducing un-sprung weight by 10lbs per corner. For track events, these would be a huge upgrade over stock. Mostly so the brakes keep performing lap after lap without fading or over-heating fluids.

    I just got my brake done. There r some noise every time I am diving by a small crack surface. Something like suspension impact with top struct tower mounting point. Is it because I remove the brake shield plate and the noise just transfer into chassis? I am still on OEM suspension

    • @TheBTRGarage

  • @slack179

    Justin, is it possible to remove the caliper with the brake pads and the rotor all assembled as one unit? I need to change out the wheel studs but not the brake pads or anything? Would it work to just remove the caliper bolts but leave everything else attached?? Thanks.

    • @TheBTRGarage
      @TheBTRGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would be pretty tricky I think to keep everything together. It is super simple to remove the pads/calipers by themselves.

    • @slack179
      @slack179 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheBTRGarage Ok I just didn't want to mess with pulling the pads out then having to compress the calipers to get the pads back in over the rotor again. But, i'll power through it. thanks again for the informative videos, gonna miss the BRZ ones.

    • @TheBTRGarage
      @TheBTRGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The rear brakes are all stock except pads. You don't really need it on these cars since they are so light. In fact, the AP Racing Sprint kit is designed to work in concert with OEM rear brakes 👍

    Any brake squeal? I have the same setup and same hawk hps pads and they squeal so much. not initially but now like 6 months later a lot of brake noise on one side i think because it has no shim.

    • @TheBTRGarage
      @TheBTRGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, I had ear piercing brake squeaking with the Hawk HPS. I even bought a 2nd set and they were quiet for a little while, then it started up again, although it was not constant.
      I picked up a set of Ferodo DS2500 most recently and they are better from a squeaky stand point.

    Justin - how much better are these than Brembos?

    • @TheBTRGarage

      They are a bit better. Lighter, smaller, SS pistons, no dust boots to melt, anodized vs painted, thicker and cheaper pads, more cooling vanes in rotors...there is a thread on ft86club that goes over all the details if you search for it.

    • @TheBTRGarage

      It is a tight fit, especially on the driver side. You have to move the seats pretty far up and at 6' tall, with my 8 year old daughter behind me, I have very little room to drive. I would not want to drive it regularly with kids, personally. It is just too small. We have 2 other vehicles for family stuff.

      That was from working on my Miata some years back. It was not from this particular job.

    • @xkrnxboix
      @xkrnxboix 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah thanks for explaining...
      Btw, i noticed that you just dropped the brake pads into the caliper for these AP brakes... does that mean the pads are in constant contact with the rotors? What is pushing the pads away from the rotors?

    • @TheBTRGarage
      @TheBTRGarage  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The pads have a "neutral" state where they are not touching the rotor. The calipers also have an anti-knockback feature. You can read up on the details on the AP Racing site for the system: www.essexparts.com/essex-designed-ap-racing-competition-brake-kit-front-cp8350299brzfrsgt86
