My favorite part about Will Smith's Genie was that he didn't try and be Robin Williams. He stayed true to the spirit of the character while making it this own.
Yeah they felt that since Jasmine was one of the Disney princesses that didn’t have a solo in the original they wanted to give her a solo. I thought this live action version was a good take on the story.

I really like that they didn't try to make the genie be exactly the same as he was in the cartoon, because Robin Williams had that one down and it feels untouchable. Will Smith made the role his own, and I love the genie he created as well.
I expected to dislike the movie after I saw that trailer showing the first look at Will Smith, but I honestly liked the movie so much. It was honestly such a fun and enjoyable movie, the cast was perfect (with the exception of Jafar) and Will Smith had a unique and great original take on the Genie character.
Jafar was the only downside imo.
I was worried about Will Smith in that Robin Williams' performance was/is so iconic, but this is an excellent example of an actor taking the character and making it his own while giving an amazing new performance.

I really liked Will Smith's genie and the changes they gave him, such as being a lot more grounded and pragmatic. Him not expecting Aladdin to ever give him his third wish made him an appropriate amount of skeptical and also focused on him being genuinely concerned for Aladdin's lies and bad road rather than just trying to get his freedom (although he obviously very much deserves it!). I love the original Genie too obviously and that all works perfectly in an animated classic but I think it made sense for a live action they decided to go a little more realistic rather than cartoonish. Also I loved Jasmine's added song and story.
This is def my fave of the remakes.
I saw this movie in theaters when it came out and omg when Aladdin started embarrassing himself in front of Jasmine and her father you could feel everyone in the theater getting second hand embarrassment 😂
Creator Backlash: The late Gilbert Gottfried, who famously voiced Iago in the original film and reprised the role in all other Aladdin-related projects, was upset that he wasn't asked to star in the live-action adaptation. This has some sense, considering that James Earl Jones was brought back to reprise his role as Mufasa in The Lion King.

A lot of people were hating on this movie when it came out because they couldn’t separate Will Smith’s performance as a completely different thing than Robin Williams’, but honestly I loved it as it’s own thing! Having a cast of almost all brown/Black folks in a classic Disney film just made me feel so happy and seen. Also I missed the cat jokes until you pointed them out hahaha.
According to writer John August, *Prince Anders was supposed to be one of Prince Hans' brothers,* but Disney vetoed it presumably to avoid complications with an implied Shared Universe as well as to avoid implying that a live-action remake of Frozen was in the works.
I just noticed Raja’s face as Aladdin fell 😅 Raja was practicing what to say when the Sultan come around like “Wha- what you mean pushed HE FELL 🤨🤨”
Fun fact: The “Have y’all seen my palace?” guy at 19:25 is Jamal Sims who was the choreographer and also the dance double for Will Smith (you can see him in Friend Like Me). He’s also the choreographer of and Dr. Facilier in Descendants 3!

Oh let’s goooo! Were you “Speechless” watching this movie Billy? 😆 I swear this is one of Disney’s best live action remakes that they’ve done and I know everyone loves the original including myself but I really enjoyed this version of Aladdin so much I prefer it over the original. It’s so well done😍 The only thing I didn’t like was the casting for Jafar. He just didn’t give off that intimidating evil villain type of vibe. Other than that, amazing movie! Please do more of the live action remakes! Still waiting on that Cruella reaction…

You know, I thought I would be the only one that liked this one better than the original. There were some aspects of the movie that freaked me out when I was little and don’t sit well with me now, but the way they added more to Jasmine’s character development, Will Smith’s version of the genie was pretty good, and the little crush I got on the actor that plays Aladdin 😅…all are why I like it better. Haha.

I agree they didn't do well with A Whole New World but there's a deleted song called Desert Moon they do and they both sound really good in that. It's one of my two favorites, and it's really sad they cut it from the film. Speechless is another one I love.

Of course i love the original but I was genuinely surprised how much fun this film was.
I actually prefer a couple of songs from this version from the original, like Friend Like Me and Arabian Nights. But A Whole New World from the original is my favorite Disney song of all time, this version was good but nowhere near as magical as the original. That being said, I was glad this was a fun film!
I think Friend Like Me was better in the original but I REALLY liked how Will did it and the genie in general. He didn't try to copy Robin, he did his own take on it.

I love this rendition because Jasmine becomes Sultan! There are subtle tones of women empowerment in this one without over doing it. I have a soft spot for the OG cartoon one though

One of the best Disney remakes ever! It still has the same storyline as the original with a twist and great comedic reliefs. Not to mention the costumes and visual for each performance.

This wasn’t a bad live action but Jafar was disappointing much like Luke Evans as Gaston or the live action Scar. We need actors that have mastered villains before. Or can bring villain vibes, look at Amy Adams in Disenchanted unexpected her pulling the villain role but she did it soo great I want her in more evil roles.
Favorite songs- Friend Like Me and a Whole New World- preferably the Peabo Bryson and Regina Belle. I did like Jasmine got her solo song but it wasn’t well placed and just something about it was off.

All things considering, based on the animated version, Aladdin is the Prince of Thieves so Genie really did work his magic

I was hesitant to watch this when it came out. Animation to live action movies does not have a good track record. So, I was pleasantly surprised when I finally watched it. I am glad I did.
