      My wife is from Boston, I’m from Texass.. my first Fenway game was special.. first thing I noticed were all the women in attendance… then a fight broke out in front of us between 2 women.. as they were being escorted out, the whole section erupted into 🎼hey, hey, hey… goodbye!!🎼.. then there was a rain delay, and we were walking down the steps, and my son asked me about the rain delay rules, and I wasn’t sure…. So, a girl about 10 yo or so was walking in front of us, and she turned around and matter of factly explained the rules… it was a culture shock for sure.. my wife just simply said, ‘Welcome to Baahston’ .. thanks for these terms.. I already knew most of them…. Just like your muth-ah! 😂These are great… subbed.

    I used to live in Boston but now I'm in New Orleans. Down here they call slushes snow balls. And Italian Ice in Boston used to be solid, sold in a covered paper cup.
    I have a favorite slang word: tonic ("taw-nik"). Basically it's old school for soda.

    When I was on a study abroad year at a college in New Hampshire, there was a guy who was OBSESSED with trying to emulate the favourite English swear word ‘twat’. What I learned was that it is practically impossible for an American to say it like a Brit, without sounding like you’re saying three in French 🤣 In fact James I think you should do a video on some classic English swears. I’ll help you out 🤣🤣

    • @JamesDeveneyProductions
      @JamesDeveneyProductions  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lol what are the top 10?? And what do they mean?

    • @ellelondon465
      @ellelondon465 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ok this is madly long because our swear words are so ambiguous. Here goes:
      Bollocks - literal meaning is scrotum. ‘Ah bollocks’ (oh no!), ‘absolute bollocks’ (that is definitely not true i.e. ‘he was talking absolute bollocks’), ‘the dog’s bollocks’ (it is/was really good), ‘my boss gave me a total bollocking’ (I got a proper telling off)
      Twat - literal meaning is vagina. ‘He’s such a twat’ (first class idiot) Can also be used as an adjective i.e. ‘I went out last night and got absolutely twatted’ (I went out and got very drunk).
      Wanker - literal meaning is masterbation. Used in the same way as twat. ‘What a wanker’, ‘I was absolutely wankered (drunk)’
      Knob - literally a penis. Can be added to lots of words to insult: knobhead, knobjocky, utter knob etc.
      Fuck/feck - obvious. Feck is the Irish version and the one I use if it slips out in front of my children.
      Berk - very problematic as you hear parents calling their kids this. On its own it’s not much of an insult - just means idiot. But my dad is a Cockney (he speaks like a Guy Richie film 🤣) so I know in rhyming slang it means ‘Berkeley Hunt’ (cunt). Not many people know this hence the casualness of use.
      Bellend - literally a penis but so much funnier.
      Piss - obvious but many uses ‘you’re taking the piss’ (having me on), ‘piss poor’ (very bad), ‘weak as piss’ (not very strong), ‘streak of piss’ (a wimp) ‘I was so pissed’ (drunk - again!)
      Tit - obvious but we use it for idiot again ‘bloke is an absolute tit’ or ‘I made a tit of myself’. Can also be used to describe inebriation; ‘I was completely off my tits’ (wasted) men say this despite the fact they don’t have tits. We also say ‘I went arse over tit’ to mean I fell over.
      Bloody - another way of saying damn. Not really offensive but it is quintessentially English!
      Can I also give a shout out to Bastard. Again really descriptive; ‘that exam was a bastard’, ‘oh what bastard luck’ (bad luck). My dad would also use this as a term of endearment for our beloved cat (really!) 🤣

    It took me at least 5 tries to get through the rotary coming out of Logan heading to 93 north to NH. Every damn time I'd end up in Lynn/Revere because I could never figure out you had to go all the way around 180 degrees and head back south for 93! It's probably different now, but that's how it was in the early 70s. The worst place in the world to drive, especially Storrow Drive.
