The one thing that got me was the promotion art. Look at it closely, it looks like the dreadnought is sinking and its deploying anchors. Also, it seems like oryx is "shark" or a "kraken" in some sense. The tenticles also give me the sense of a ship bring dragged down to the depths of an ocean. Maybe there willl be a theme of "drowning in the deep" with this season sense that fits the bill with the hive.
to fit this theory, Bungie have been referring to the the Dreadnaught as as "ship" alot recently, which we are taking over and becoming the new captain of.. hence the Hive-captain themed armor we're getting this season.. i think youre onto something with this. Also i cant be the only one who is still wondering how Oryx body got to Titan from when we killed him on Saturn?? at the end of Kings fall after killing him, he falls back into the orbit of Saturn, NOT Titan.. he quite literally sinks into the deep.. since we're also going back to Rhulks ship, where we first heard the lines about rising or sinking out from/into the deep.. there seems to be a connection there. Im excited to see how it plays out!

According to the royal chase entry from season of the hunt, the witness taking titan made a gravitational anomaly at the same time oryx's body was being tracked by the last city. It's theorised that this anomaly sucked oryx's body onto titan and vanished alongside it for a while, but we don't know for sure
Oryx, the Kraken King
The devs during the stream also talk about the dreadnaught as if the outer layers are peeling back to reveal bone and new secrets. It's possible that the Barrow-Dyad follows the same theme, in that it is a bridge to a time before the weapons of sorrow were made. Since the dreadnaught was made out of a segment of the worm god Akka, I wonder if there's some kind of underlying presence that predates the Hive that exists in those forgotten layers. Reminds me of like the Sealed Ahamkara Grasps; basically sealing the bones in silver quiets the auditory hallucinations.
Considering Oryx got the power to Take because he killed a worm god, I wonder if it is actually another worm god that is messing with the dreadnaught now. Or perhaps the worm god said to be killed in the book of sorrow was never actually killed?
The way Eris and Drifter were talking during the prologue bento event sounded happy and sad, talking about the past and the old tower, it seemed to me like they were saying thank you and goodbye guardian. 🥺🥺 Whatever happens guys, we do it together 😭🙏
Eris is an expansion vendor so she has plot armor
So was cayde
Cayde was a vendor
And hawthorn
We already had characters on several location at the same time. Cayde died in forsaken but was still around for the content before it etc
Amanda was a Vendor 😢
I don't see Eris dying here. She's a destination vendor. If they were to kill her off, then that would mean vaulting the moon.
they could just replace the vender lol
They really could, after all Amanda got replaced
But will they do it and vault the moon it wouldn’t surprise me
Why wouldn't they vault the moon it's been out for a long time bungie probably will
@CarsonRut-n7y although it might happen but given there is two dungeon on it they might not
What if Eris got Taken, which is why Sloane is back and why we’re trying to learn new tricks related to Taking?
Yeah, she's Taken, alright...
*_Trasmat firing_* and all that...
drifter: it take or be taken vise versa the irony saladin:..
Sloane is the one that has been Taken
@@manuelb5466she learned to suppress the taken-ness with the Light. My theory is that Eris will get fully taken
They could be talking about amanda, about Sloan missing her & what not. But it could be the titan worm
He didn't commune with the witnesses. Oryx spoke directly to the darkness .
When I wanna hear lore, you are my go to guardian Evaze! You are always on top of it and your voice is relaxing. Keep it up bro!
I'm 100% sure the Barrow-Dyad is the precursor for Touch of Malice. ToM is the only other weapon that has the "Blight" keyword.
Bungie already said what the tentacles are. It's the "Eldritch force bubling up" as Bungie said. Apparently it's actively rewarding our violence on the Dreadnought.
I know it's a very large stretch but what if those tentacles are from Commander ta'och or whatever his name was inside the conductor's echo
Possibly! Could also be tied to the worm Akka as its body was used to build the Dreadnaught
Te'Qal of the Qugu
@RavenBeardenStudios yes that guy
Hive basically like sea humanoid erchants or sea humanoid anthropods before they were the hive.
Im actually interested in that "end event" thing they mentioned briefly, and im pretty sure they said itll be at the end of the first quests for week one of heresy, something big gonna happen
My theory is she dies in her hive form and then gets revived into a taken like form.
Or Salone dies or becomes fully taken
She lost her Hive form when she renounced her powers as a hive god. I suppose it's possible she could attempt to redo the ritual to ascend a second time though?
What if Akka (the Dreadnaught itself) is waking up with the power of the echo? Or even the Leviathan finding its way out through the corpse of its long dead disciple?
Far fetched out there theory… what if those tentacles and the weird creature that is a sphere with tentacles is the winnower, aka the “Eldritch” force Bungie talked about?
The entire point of the episodes is to tie up loose ends for the light and darkness saga to segue into frontiers. Introducing the winnower at this point would do the exact opposite of that
I see it being Ahsa that dies since they said something inspires Sloan to get involved
The eyes and tentacles remind of Skyrim's Hermaeus Mora the Daedric prince of fate, knowledge and memory. Maybe these are what the Echo's are. The Knowledge to control is what Maya had to control the vex and soon some Cabal. The Fate to change, Turning Fallen into Scorn and giving Eramis her Fate and now Memory where the Echo might be used to force Memories into others like how we used a dead worms memory of the Witness to see the truth in the witness.
I’m thinking that Asha gets taken at the beginning of the episode. Xivu tried to before, and maybe Oryx succeeded, he did take Riven after all.
But it’s hard to say for certain, but I think the tentacles are likely related to Akka, the worm god of secrets that the dreadnought was made from. The echos having light and dark power may have revived them, but death is just a word to the worm gods and the Ahamkara so calling Akka dead even before now is slightly wrong. Oryx even had to fight Alma’s festering corpse after he was trapped in the deep in the books of sorrow. So I’m betting Akka.
Okay let’s break down the weapon of sorrow part. He didn’t say this is a precursor to THE weapons of sorrow he said A weapon of sorrow. What if this is weapon turns into or combined with another weapon letting it stand alone or be fused with another weapon. What if that’s how they’re going to have it be craftable. Or maybe there will be another weapon all together that we will earn after we get this one. It’s interesting that they added redacted right after that as if they are teasing us about a secret they’ve got cooked up. Unless they’re just referring to a current weapon of sorrow my guess would be touch of malice with maybe a tie to the ring in the touch of malice? Who knows but that statement seems much more complex than I think we realize.
We learn from the Xol that Worm Gods are like Ahankara death is not a finality," Death is a road, death is metamorphosis." So maybe the Echo is after effecting Akka.
Akka was the Worm God of Secrets, and Oryx only learned the ability to Take after he killed Akka Yeah i know he spoke with the Deep and learned the knowledge, but seems like it would be an important secret, that a worn might of known about. This could explain the strong Taken presents.
Im hoping the Oryx in the key art isn't the real Oryx but just another Echo/Shade of Oryx. thats being controlled by Akka, as a screw you for killing me and turning me into you ship.
Bungie already killed one ship they cant kill another.
Drifter could be talking about Oren the guardian who became the emissary of the nine she fits the description of a (functionally) dead women drifter knows
I kinda see it? He's been convinced she's still out there for years
Also there's one line in prophecy suggesting that Eris knew and liked her as well, so hearing about her death would be interesting, but still disappointing (for me, my girl deserves better ;-; )
So I don't think a new death of a character is going to happen. I think they may have been talking about Amanda Hollday. Cuz Sloan took it hard when she found out that she was gone. So maybe a little hit of her from back in the taken king time.
Asah has been claimed by xivu and shes using her to recreate her throne world. We'll then use the Dreadnaught to go back to fundament to track down the remaining worm gods to find a way to deal with her
Then frontiers
So regarding the tentacles, could they be connected to the Nine? They're sometimes referred to as many tentacles wrapped around every bit of matter
The “specific dread” looks taken and it looks like rulhk
It's a Subjugator. A Dread unit formed by the Lubreans, Rhulk's people.
8:00 These eyes are extremely similar to the eyes of savathun in arrivals
Perhaps but the common denominator for eyes, tentacles, and Taken has always been with Chimeras.
Close, but not quite exact
well if frontiers is supposed to take us elsewhere, that concept art looks a lot like the witness species homeworld from the cutscenes we've seen.
Naw, Eris is not going to die!
I don't think anyone we know of is going to die in Heresy (I would be sad if I'm wrong), but I think it's Drifter accepting that the Emissary isn't Orin anymore and that "she's dead". He talked about her in Season of the Deep before with Zavala, I'm not surprised that he'll reference her again here to finally be able to let go of her. She's considered 'taken' by the Nine and Hazel implied on her Bluesky about Drifter and Eris's friendship in a teasing manner with the fans. Writing about them wasn't also her idea as well, but she's one of the main writers for Heresy. I'm looking forward to this episode either way and can't wait until it comes out!
I was wrong.
1:49 It’s Randal the Vandal
That scally wag 😂
Crossing my fingers we get the taken armor set again like in D1
This just screams eldritch horror
The tentacles remind me of the Qugu, whom we have never actually seen or met (as such) so I can imagine that some Qugu were 'taken'.
The war beast is probably like a shadow thrall or whatever
what i think streamers failed to realise is we are getting a new arc machine gun if you watched the play closely
I feel like drifter's talking about Amanda since she and slone were close
I swear if they kill off eris im convinced bungie is anti straight, they only kill off straight characters. Cayde, Amanda, Zavala lost his ghost it's only a matter of time, yet Saint and Osiris are still crammed down our throats.
Sjur Eido?
I’ll Be Honest If Eris Morn Dies This Episode That Is A HUGE Major Death For The Game & Most Importantly The Story Because As Powerful As Guardians Are There Is So Much Stuff That Would Never Have Happened In The Way That It Did Or Led Us To Succeeded In Some Of Our Missions If It Wasn’t For Eris Morn. So If She Dies Then We’re Fucked, Not Completely Fucked But It’d Definitely Be Massive Blow.
If the Dreadnaught is (or was) once the body of a Worm God, that Oryx used to manifest and turn his Throne World "inside out" then is should come as no surprise that the Dreadnaught ITSELF might have seized the Echo that escaped the Traveler. Will be VERY interesting IF said Echo DOES contain within it the person of Oryx, and provide the means by which he could (in theory) be reunited with or interred within his mutated body.
Here is a good question 9:05 did eris ever get a ship replacement? Lol
I don't think so. But I like to think the Refashioned Shapes ship from season 8 and the Sparagmos ship from season 22 are hers
im offended.. ahsa is not a worm she is a space whale thank you very much.. hmph
My thoughts: I think the echo will burrow into the dreadnought itself, and resurrect the hive worm god akka. Who oryx originally killed to get the taken power, and that symbol over the super weapon, is akka’s eye.
Imagine If Oryx is in that Echo and that Subjugator on top right got it and Oryx gave that specific Subjugator the power to take?
They better not kill Eris off, she been through enough, that woman deserve her retirement with Drifter
Wait, that taken orb in the center of that pillar at 11:08 looks like the ones we had to shoot to disable the dreadnought weapon. That thing IS operational!
If Eris dies for real I’m out.
She cant
Is this how we get Taken Dregs?
I thought all the echos where from past races that had fought the witness and lost so how could it be orxy if we killed him ?
@@mendoncabeast1 that did not happen
Ah, you’ve got dire taken. It’s like regular taken… only dire…
We have shadow cabal! They're like regular cabal, but this time their evil-er
The tentacles are from the ship coming back to life the dreadnought was a hive God before it might have found away to come back to life by the echo 🤔
worm god*
I'm thinking that Eris is gone. Not dead. However, she won't be the same when we see her again. She probably won't be able to enjoy lunch with Drifter ever again. It probably has something to do with the [REDACTED] cosmic event we can see just outside of the Dreadnought.
Aren't the dire taken the enemies under the dreaming City? The ones you can get to by going out of bounds
I think that was the Aphelion
I don't know why but I believe that the unkown Dread commander is named Tempest and is a lesser disciple of the Witness who commands stasis as in one of the Final Shape levels you fight a lot of Dread named Tempest's Beloved who are all attendents and omens but I could just be tweeking.
I think the dire part of the name is being used as in dire wolf which is just saying it's fearful
Its definitely Asa dying or being killed because that'd be why Solane decided to teach us Taken powers. Its also why Solane would leave Titan where Asa resides.
are you hoping taken will be the 3rd darkness subclass?
@@umbratilicious15I hope not, we don't need anymore subclasses
@@Jayx1e0-9 yes we do, but it would not be taken.
Prismatic is not a subclass so not it's uneven, 3 light and 2 dark?
Also bungie is apparently big on the number 7
@@umbratilicious15 NO WE DONT, plus there's literally no more space for a new one, ALSO the light and darkness saga is over now, the main focus is frontiers now
What exactly is the connection between Eris and Drifter? They’re old fireteam members yes but it seems so much like they are or were more like lovers at some point. Is there lore explaining something I’m missing?
There are multiple lore tabs suggesting they've been seeing regularly and frowing a close connection, the writing frames it in a romantic way it was never said directly tho
(That means no "i love you" *kiss kiss* scene)
Predicted Eris’s death, damn
Someone likely already said this but if eris dies… doesnt she get a throne world?
5:40 someone needs to get that woman to an osteopedic specialist immediately 😭
You notice how the taken look different this time around? I swear to god they look double taken. Not sure if that makes sense. But their taken look is like more. In the splash are even the dread guy looked taken
He mentioned that in the video, they're Dire Taken now. Definitely meant to be a distinction between them and regular taken.
Wait I just realized, how is Orix back? didn't we make him into a weapon just like we did his son? (The touch of malice)
no, we did not, we killed him, but we did not turn him into a weapon (that's a stupid meme anyhow)
If Eris is killed off? Drifter is gunna be next level psychotic & I'm all for it haha. He could replace her on the moon, launch his assault from there?
That or they're hinting at Eris but Drifter dies defending her? He's not exactly doing all that much & the whole bento quest just to remind us of their cute little love story only for him to give his life to save her?
Is it me or does the subjugator in the cover art for heresy look a bit taken?
Well that subjugator is apparently the main villain for this episode, which I abit disappointed about
@Jayx1e0-9 they did say a dread was pursuing the echo, but I ain't disappointed but rather intrigued because the only dread that is taken is the Herald of Finality in Salvation's Edge. Sure that was also an Eliksni but beside that fact, it was the only dread that is taken.
I do wonder though, how can a dread be taken? They are reshaped species that witness encountered & design to serve the witness or any who has a strong will, while a taken is a being that has been stripped away it's will and turned into a reflection of itself formed.
Maybe Eris dies or more likly its sloans new fish friend.
6:12 my money is on sloane’s ghost
Sloane's ghost is a he, not she (from what i know)
It’ll probably just be asa, bungie has a habit of killing off characters no one cares about and then acting like said character was everyone’s favorite and overplays it.
Just like the blond girl that I dont even remember her name
@@Jimmy_ZAXAmanda Holiday, she was cool side character
BS, Cade was everyone's favorite. 🙄🙄
@@JM1992Yes, these people.
@@princephillip1481
Yeah so much so that you can't even spell his name properly lol. Cade-66 was my favorite character too
Destiny is interesting. The lore is awesome and fascinating, but the in-game experience and delivery would always fall flat for me. (not to mention important story beats disappearing after each season or vaulted). But I would love to see some big plot twist that we don't expect. Kill a major character, and corrupt another turning them evil.
I find it annoying that the strikes have forced Bungie into this position, and they cant really stall the episode cause with strikes it could take half the year or more depending on what its about
What is Xivu Arath kills Eris somehow and becomes super powerful.
NAH, Eris gave up all the power she got remember?
And Eris banished Xivu from her own Throneworld.
Kinda looks like the scourge from Mass Effect Andromeda
No ones gonna die
Nooooooo!!!
Hope xivu has it i have 30k eggplants on it
(Ahsa 99/99)💀(Eris 50/50)
My heart 💔💯
Taken Cthulhu!... 😂
Hi everybody
It would totally be a Bungie move to end the only heterosexual relationship in the game.
crow better be involved
My bet on who dies is slone she will probably die from becoming full taken
