Rezzyl was surpassed by Saladin, Radeghast, and other Iron Lords, and than by Saint-14, Shaxx and Zavalla. And than by Us. But the Shadow of Yor remains. Dredgen Cull was to rise to the challenge, but failed. No one has replaced Yor. No one can. And thus, his legend remains. As does his Godhood. But in the end, he choose death. He wanted the Sword Logic to be ingrained into the soul of all. And he led Shin to the Sword. The Master’s blade, after all.

First, the most toxic guardian in history was actually a Striker Titan the whole time, and I find that hilarious. Second, Jaron Ward is literally the Arizona Ranger.
Hearing Dredgens ghosts voice get more and more desperate and sad really sets the tone for how falling really affects guardians. It’s quite terrifying honestly
HI GUYS! 3 things to note! 1) RE: Dredgen Yor vs Rezyl Azzir (hunter vs titan). I hope I've given what is a good explanation of the relationship between these two characters. However! The idea behind the character up until the Rezyl reveal was entirely that the identity of Yor and his class would be a subject of debate. So discuss this! We might know the fuller story but it's still an interesting thing to talk about. What makes a titan or a hunter? What makes a class archetype? Can titans aside from Saladin wear cloaks? Does someone with the same body have the ability to change a class? Do the monikers of classes even apply to those that use the powers of Darkness? Think about some of those questions. I know the writing team at Bungie would definitely love it if you all had a little friendly back and forth about this story. 2) Thank you. Thank you for watching this and thank you to all the people who put time into making this, be they voice actor, artist, editor, sound mastering or even the guys who helped me to capture some of the gameplay. You've all been essential to the creation of this video and I'm so glad to have worked with you all! 3) Confessions of hope I hear you whispering... It's a later potential addition to this story and whilst it's heavily implied, nowhere is it confirmed that Shin was indeed the child in that story. Considering that it wasn't part of the original Last Word and Thorn Saga, and because assumptions are dangerous I decided against including this in our story. If we see more of it come out we may well see some answers. You'll note in the video that we used the phrase "If we are to take Shin at his word." The use of that phrase is a nod to this. I hope we can all understand that a little more at some time later on.
To be fair, Saladin wears a cape, not a cloak. There’s no hood. And some characters do wear articles of clothing not commonly associated with a class, like Osiris with a hood. Truth be told, I think a lot of players would love some visual flair like that. Love the way you presented this interpretation of Yor.
perhaps Shin became a Guardian because Jaren's death was an extremely rare type of death. We know a Guardian can die permanently if they lose their Ghost, Cayde for one example. But the OG Thorn had a unique property where it could drain the light from a Guardian it kills, this prevents them from being resurrected and leaving Jaren's Ghost not connected to a Guardian, so perhaps this basically reset her connections and allowed her to choose Shin as her new Guardian. For We know he became one since he could use Golden Gun. And Jaren's Ghost is the only one we've heard accompany Shin. But this is just my theory.
I think ghosts can rez anyone really. In the pigeon and phoenix lore book Osiris slays a risen who was using his powers to hurt others. He was able to ask the man's ghost why he would choose someone so awful and we learned from Sagira that the ghost was scarred, they needed someone strong and chose them, even if they weren't worthy. They then send the ghost off to the traveler to find his actual guardian.
IIRC, Shin was basically a stillborn, got rezzed by a Ghost, and that ghost later died. So he had latent Light, and his bond with Jarren may have just been the "spark" he needed to become truly worthy of Jarren's Ghost after his passing.
Let me help yall. you see when shin was born, he was almost stillborn but by a miracle in night, he was revived with traveler's light. In the event jaren died, he was chosen to become a guardian, because of said light.
This level of story telling for a non bungie commissioned is astonishing, you really should be heavily supported by the studio since you bring so much understanding to their lore. I really hope some days they'll realize how valuable you are.
This is a prime example why, in my opinion, Byf is THE destiny lore youtuber. There simply is no equal in method of storytelling the destiny universe. This was just amazing.

I love how these 2 guns are so connected in the lore and in actual play. They were so dominant for so long in D1 that its almost perfect that bungie never balanced them in year 1. We all got to play out this lore over and over in the crucible.

I wonder if that was the point of it. Give us some kind of catalyst to put us on a path towards either darkness or the light. Walk between the lines of right and wrong. CHOOSE a side and all. It adds a layer of complexity to our guardian's story, which was desperately needed to set up the future of our guardian's story. I'm excited to see where it goes.

I doubt this would ever happen, or even be possible, but what if bungie made the Thorn transform by kills against enemies to Rose and kills against guardians Thorn. The more you have to one side, the more it looks like one or the other. That would be sick!
IIRC the Husk of the Pit (which later became Eidolon Ally and ended as the Necrochasm) turned darker as we fed it hive deaths. So... not saying it will happen, but a gun changing color (maybe even geometry) as we use it in a particular way is possible. That would be sick indeed.
Shadows of Lor both would be cool, but...consider the ingenuity. Consider the immersion. To become closer to the darkness, is to kill thy brethren. To become closer to the light, is to bring light to the darkness. What a MAGNIFICENT story it would tell when guardians split! 😆😆😆 just thinking about it gives me goosebumps

Thinking the same thing, also could be a similar case with Eris Morn, she lost her ghost, lost her sight but she was down there for a long, long time. She has abilities despite the absence of her ghost, I know some of that has to do with Crota and the Hive, but we'll definitely learn more about her in Shadowkeep.
I would think so and the place matches up as best as it can be seeing as the hell mouth door was still locked up when we got there in d1 and maybe the moon siege was at shadowkeep seeing as I believe it said the nightmare was unleashed with was being past tense so I bet you are right
I believe destiny in movie format cannot happen due to the lore being quite similar to star wars, replace the handcannons with lightsabers and the light with the force, and boom you have a Star Wars story. I would still love to see it happen tho.
@Mythical. I really disagree with you, you are just picking words and ignoring what they mean in the two universes. I compared the force with the light, I didn't compare the theme 'light and dark'. You really seem to be arguing for the sake of arguing.
I was a D1 addict in my high school days. Lore, community, the game itself, I was steeped in it. But now as an adult life had gotten in the way of D2 and I eventually forgot about it. Simply remembering the days of my squad with nostalgia. But recently I got back into the game. And I gotta say as I return to Byf's videos I I've remembered all that I've truly loved about this game.
So I just realised that you got voice actors for the lore acted sections - I was wondering for the longest why these don't exist in the game haha. Thank you for your hard work! Much more immersive!
There are lines in this story that just really hit different “if one man could stand against the dark so too cold anyone, everyone” “same meat same bone but so very different”
My friend, you and your crew deserve many awards for this. It is breathtaking, well illustrated, voice acting is fantastic. Honestly one of your best ever. Your break for your mental health served you well and it appears you are on another level. Still praying for you brother as I know it is an ongoing struggle but well done bud. While it's nice when Bungo does actual storytelling, it's not surprising when the community always one ups them. Grimoire and in-game lore is great. But how about D3 having lore audio logs acting out scenes? Step it up, Bungie. #bungiesuggestion
Bioshock did it well Imo. The audio logs conveyed the story that genuinely felt like part of the game without taking us out of the game. I can grind with the sound off and byf on for an hour without a problem. It still feels distant and unrelated.

I feel like one of the most interesting parts of this is that Yor never even drew in the final showdown. The obvious assumption is that he either wanted to die for some ulterior motive or was just too slow. I don't really think the second one is something bungie would do So what other motive would he have? I think the dialogue between yor and wards ghost where the ghost says he might want to tempt shin is most likely the answer. This even ties back to all the way into the future where we are now with shin's story. Shin killed out of vengeance and anger, and beat him with sheer might. That sounds to me like the essence of the sword logic.
I think, ultimately, the way Yor died was both the Perfect Finish and the Perfect Beginning. On Yor's end, his nihilism and fall from grace finally collided into Solar Light, ending the disgraceful legacy of a once great Guardian. Shin, on the other hand, was able to not only achieve closure for the death of his father figure, but to embody the righteous fury at the heart of the Solar discipline, inspiring countless Guardians forever onward.
To be fair, the ulterior motive was to motivate Shin to train and kill Dredgen Yor. Yor/Rezzyl knew that the one man who can stop him will be Shin - given how he killed his father figure Jaren Ward it would be motivation enough for Shin to end Yor. The brief moment Rezzyl was "back" he gave the last word to Jaren Ward's ghost, which Shin will take and train over the years. Rezzyl knew that he has to end himself in order to stop the madness Yor commits. He also taunted Shin to make sure he doesn't soften up after years of training to reach this final showdown.
Indeed, the showdown between Shin Malphur and Dredgen Yor is a moment laden with symbolism and deep narrative undertones. The fact that Yor did not draw his weapon, Thorn, during this final confrontation is a point of great intrigue, suggesting that his motivations were far more complex than a mere battle for dominance. Yor’s journey, from a hero of the Light to a harbinger of Darkness, is a tragic tale of corruption and the seductive power of the Darkness. His encounter with Shin Malphur seems to have been meticulously crafted, not just as a duel but as a final act in a grand, dark design. The dialogue between Yor and Jaren Ward's Ghost, where the Ghost insinuates that Yor might want to tempt Shin, is crucial. This hints at Yor's deeper, more sinister intent: to plant the seeds of Darkness within Shin. By allowing Shin to kill him out of vengeance and anger, Yor hoped to pass on the essence of the sword logic, the philosophy of survival through strength and dominance. The sword logic, a belief system embraced by the Hive and Oryx, the Taken King, dictates that power and existence are justified through the defeat of the strong. By killing Yor, Shin would not only be taking a life but potentially embracing the very darkness he sought to destroy. This act of killing out of vengeance and anger is a perilous dance with the very forces that corrupted Yor. Yor’s ultimate goal may have been to challenge the purity of the Light within Shin. By tempting Shin to embrace his darker impulses, Yor sought to perpetuate the cycle of Light and Darkness, ensuring that even in death, his influence would persist. This is a test of Shin’s character and resilience, a crucible in which his true nature would be revealed. In killing Yor, Shin did indeed confront the essence of the sword logic. However, unlike Yor, Shin did not succumb to the Darkness. Instead, he emerged as a Guardian whose actions, though fueled by vengeance, ultimately reaffirmed his commitment to the Light. Shin’s journey did not end with Yor’s death; it was merely the beginning of a lifelong struggle against the Darkness, both within and without. This moment is pivotal in understanding Shin’s role in the grand tapestry of our universe. His victory over Yor was not just a physical triumph but a moral one, a testament to the enduring strength of the Light even when confronted with the deepest shadows. Shin’s story, as it unfolds into the present and beyond, is one of redemption and vigilance, a reminder that the path of the Guardian is fraught with challenges that test the very core of our being. Yor’s death, therefore, is not the end of his influence but a turning point. It serves as a reminder that the battle between Light and Darkness is not just fought on the battlefield but within the hearts of those who wield these cosmic forces. Shin’s resilience in the face of such a profound test speaks to the potential for Light to prevail, even when the Darkness seeks to consume it from within.

BYF GO TO SLEEP
To be fair, Saladin wears a cape, not a cloak. There’s no hood. And some characters do wear articles of clothing not commonly associated with a class, like Osiris with a hood. Truth be told, I think a lot of players would love some visual flair like that. Love the way you presented this interpretation of Yor.
P.S great job with the story 👍
I’ve been sitting in my room for an hour relaxing, connecting my phone to the speaker and just enjoying the story.

perhaps Shin became a Guardian because Jaren's death was an extremely rare type of death.
@@akurami6577 Yep.
@@akurami6577 oh shit, that's got to be rough

@@brimward122 I think he meant Forsaken. Yes it fit with the lore but imagine if we could tune the Sundial to our past specifically and end up rescuing Cayde from the Scorn Barons and Uldren, yet still end up hunting them down (because it was an attempted murder of Cayde, so we would likely have the backing of the Vanguard that time around) and the whole story was focused on the Capture of Uldren, so he could end up becoming uncorrupted, and he could end up becoming a guardian without being killed first, and he could end up seeing Mara again.

The in-game Rose hand cannon actually looks a lot like how you got artists to depict it here...
Thornefield yeah but like without all that engraving and the one we got was a bit more blocky.
If only the art here were an ornament or something.
The Luminous Lumina was thus the rose that bloomed from our light and Rose from another man's darkness within and through out
i wish there was an ornament for rose thats like
With the bones on it, almost thorn but not quite yet
Friccle__ That could also be cool as it’s own gun, so we get all 3 stages of Rose.
That would be sick indeed.
maybe there will be an ornament...
Gaimz personally I’d like to have both
Shadows of Lor both would be cool, but...consider the ingenuity. Consider the immersion. To become closer to the darkness, is to kill thy brethren. To become closer to the light, is to bring light to the darkness. What a MAGNIFICENT story it would tell when guardians split! 😆😆😆 just thinking about it gives me goosebumps
Gaimz I understand that that would be a cool aspect to the game and lor id also like to have dark powers like they are talking about for destiny 3

This is absolutely mind blowing. The voice acting was seriously on point. Just wow
It still feels distant and unrelated.
grimmSOL bungo
I dunno, I kinda liike the way Byf does this ish . Its fucken DOPE ! True dedication
One ups? How the community didnt write this.
@@cw3598 With proper telling of the story so it's inviting and catches our attention, while also giving voiced dialogue instead of just reading it like a script. Dumb ass.
Was that Blessious playing Shin? Hot damn he's good.
Daniel I thought the same thing!
Yes, it's in the video description.
I know, that was more of a statement than a question.

This could straight up be a movie or a spin-off game
Bungie wouldnt bother...
It could work but only if it was its own movie and just uses yor and stuff but loosely

BYF = GOAT. Omg this was so great. I went from a 39 year old man to a 10 year old kid. I stood up and clapped when this video ended. Im all giddy. I want to go role play Destiny with my friends like when I was a kid pretending to be Star War charachters. "I call Shin, you guys can be whoever". Truly amazing job to everyone involved. Not watching this is only robbing yourself. I am going to send this video to my fireteam than quiz them. Answer correctly or be booted. Lol, see 39 to 10. Now, why cant I spam the like button? If there ever was a time for that to be allowed it is now.

I call Dredgen. I've always really liked a great Villian.
@@horizontide568 I agree. A strong villain always drives the plot forward.
Plus, when is it not fun to play the bad guy? Tim Curry's been doing it for years!

THE VOICE OF DREDGEN IS PERFECT
In terms of voices I prefer the ones from the narrated cards. Don’t remember the channel but if you search for audio grimoire cards you’ll find the channel. I did love this whole thing though.
I listen to this as a bedtime story.

That sounds to me like the essence of the sword logic.
he did want to die
