I remember on the Australian version, the audience applauded the efficiency that one contestant and her husband had in ascertaining the answer via google. They'd obviously rehearsed asking questions and googling very quickly and he was ready and waiting in front of the computer.

If it was me, the ONLY question I'd be asking is who the best divorce lawyer is. Then again, if his wife was doing something wrong, why would another man answer the phone? It doesn't make sense. Apparently, she's on the 'call answer' list, so wouldn't she expect him to call anyway? That being said. Is she allowed to have help herself with giving an answer according to the possible rules of the show? If not, did she 'mess up' by accidentally allowing the other person to answer the phone, therefore, possibly having to be disqualified? Is she waiting for her husband while with other family members, such as her brother?.........wait a minute...waaaaiiiiiit a minute(Maximbody style) Why did that man say, 'no service?' Was he pretending to be an 'automatic response system' for a 'connection error?'...LOL...When the wife acted like she couldn't hear until the announcer TOLD her she could hear, in so many words...LOL...Was she trying to give credence the first FAKE error? Am I being dumb here but the guy's voice sounded like a pre-recorded/computer's voice, fair enough if it answered and was like "ello its Garreh, oow's this?" but sounded like a robotic/pre-recorded voice to me and not some actual man's voice who's just picked up the phone

I can't believe the amount of people who genuinely think this was real. Yes, it was a recording. Jeremy is joking. For one thing, the phone-a-friend people have a producer with them when they're awaiting a call (Jeremy confirms that the producer is with them every time). Unless she's doing the producer, it'd be impossible for her to just get a surprise call while she's with another man. This should be basic common sense.

No he just made a joke. The male voice was literally the standard automatic call failure message when you have no answering machine.
He asked if she had someone with her, maybe to continue the joke, but she has to. The phone-a-friends have to be supervised by a rep from the show or they’ll just Google the answer and ruin the game.

@@Isleofskye I'm thinking they cut it out in the editing. Notice how quickly people seem to answer the phone, it's clearly edited. Constestants are under non-disclosure agreements for how much they won.

The crew member with the wife has to answer other calls to her number in order to keep her phone available all the time for the participant's call...so he was about to say there is no service available but whennhe heard Jeremy 's voice he paused and gave the wife the phone to talk. Thats it. 😀
Okay, that's interesting to hear. I did not know the show makes sure the person who is your lifeline can absolutely answer the phone. I've actually seen an episode of the US version of "Millionaire" and the person on the other end didn't pick up. Regis Philbin (the host) was visibly embarrassed. I think this is speculation on my part, but it may have led to the show sending someone to the helper's house/flat to make sure they can actually pick up the phone!

Just for anyone who doesn’t realise this is a joke. The man was obviously an automated voice saying there is no service also just to make double sure this is a joke the show actually have a crew member who sits with people that are an option to call to make sure they aren’t cheating.

As a native English speaker who speaks fluent German, this has been the absolute worst question ever on Who Wants?. Not because it was bad or anything. Because the dude used a lifeline without hesitation... AND SUNDAY AND SONNTAG ARE ALMOST THE SAME!!

I think without jumping to conclusions it's safer to find out first before losing it, it could be someone from the quiz team, an error, a friend, relative, anything. I knew the answer but I've lived in Hamburg and I've studied German at school, but a bit rusty!

So they do have people with the phone a friend to make sure they not cheating. Also, it's more than enough time to search questions, you can type as the question as it is being asked wouldn't be that hard most people can manage it in 30 seconds.
@@arpad2188 there's actually several clips here on TH-cam of people successfully googling the question and giving the answer. The first time it happened, it was a funny novelty. But after multiple times it DOES kind of make you wonder...should something be changed?

I made out “I’m sorry there is no service to the (cuts off)” it sounds like that MAY have been a telephone intercept message because a wrong number was dialed. A google search reveals very little other than a Reddit post.
Unless… this other man answered the phone with such a phrase in an effort to get back to being with this man’s wife (dun dun dunnnnnn).

well I mean it's not so easy when you're actually there, and there's actual money on the line. it's much easier to make educated guesses when you're just watching, and there's no consequence for getting it wrong.

With only 30 seconds to answer, saying "Hello", and then possibly risking having it be replied back/waiting for it to be heard back, and then the question being interrupted and not heard could cost valuable seconds.
Seen that type of scenario quite often whenever I watched this programme (which wasn't all that often).

In the new version of the British WWTBAM (any with Jeremy Clarkson basically) the Phone a Friends always have a member of the team there to ensure they are able to answer and to make sure they don't Google stuff. That's who picked up the phone.
Oh Thats interesting, in the Sweden version of this program the competing person will call a friend and sometimes say "Google this" or something like that. And it is not counted as cheating.
Poor form on Clarkson's part. He must surely have heard that that was a recorded voice AND he knows that someone IS there. Someone from the show is sent to the phone a friend's house to make sure they can't cheat. His stupid implications could have been very off-putting to the contestant. At the very least, embarrassing to have him imply something was going on and can only imagine the possible repercussions if it had been a jealous husband in the seat.
Howwww is it possible... Dont they get on the seat if they win the first part first of fastest fingers? Did they send crew in advance to the houses alll those contestants friends and family ?? Plus each contestant has more than one "call a friend" so that would be too many people goin in advance to too many houses no??
@@Roxjetlagged TBH I'm not absolutely sure how it works. We don't have the show here in New Zealand - we just watch the English version. I assume there is a limited pool of contestants who get to the filming stage on any given day, probably only about 10 or so. From what l've heard its a pretty drawn out process between entering and being selected. Ample time for the producers to arrange to have a chaperone at the phone a friend's house. Hopefully someone who DOES know will be along to answer.

It's somehow interesting that as a native speaker it's really easy, but if you can't speak the language it gets almost impossible to know. I mean it's like the question would be which of these days is part of the weekend and the options would be "Thursday, Wednesday, Sunday or Tuesday". I mean, really simple, isn't it😅
