This was the best video you guys have ever done. I saw Ralph's cars on display in Boston - STUNNING. And I've seen Ralph several times around Greenwich driving and I always wave and he gives a thumbs up. Seen him in BMW Z8, Mercedes CLK Black Series. I also have some Bruce Webber original photos of his Ferrari P2/3 that a friend who worked at RL gave me years ago.
Back in about 2001 I pulled up to a stop light in the small Colorado town I lived in and next to me was Ralph in his silver McLaren F1. Was quite a sight!
Great episode. I went especially tp Paris to see RL's collection when it was shown at the Louvre. A true privilege to view them. I saw the 250LM race at Sandown in Melbourne in 1968. Chris Amon driving it to win. If we talk about the ones that got away, in 1998 I was in London staying at the Dorchester. I was walking back to the hotel and came across a small car showroom. Sitting in the window with its engine lid open, gold foil on display, was an F1. I went in to have a look. It was the last one for sale. From memory around $650k. I couldn't justify buying it. Such an absurd price for a car. Right.
There's 3 Type 57SC Atlantics remaining: Ralph Lauren's, Mullin Automotive Collection and the Torrata Collection in Spain. The 4th one that was lost on a train is La Voiture Noire.
I saw many of these cars at the Boston MFA display c.2005. The thing that stood out the most were the “imperfections”. The rivets on the spine of the the SC, the paint on the D type, the emblem on the blower Bentley, and the leather in the SL. True handmade artwork.
That F1LM used to be in my hometown all the time. The picture with the snow on the ground is where the old Turner Motorsports used to be. Legit walking distance from my house lol
I was fortunate enough to have seen the Ssk up close at Concourse d’ Elegance at Meadow Brook Hall in Michigan back in the mid 90’s. It was absolutely stunning. This show was one of those shows that even the parking lot was impressive. I still remember the trip there there was 355 and Nsx racing on the way there. Unfortunately, my Mom was driving and our old 91 300D couldn’t have kept up even if we wanted too.
John Ficarra. You have to be kidding me. As a child I got my first slot car set one Christmas and the 2 cars it came with were Ferrari 250TR and D Jag! Have loved them both ever since.
I was at Manhattan Motorcars when Ralph personally came and picked up his Reventon Roadster. Beautiful car. Nice guy. He took a photo with my toddler son in his arms. I’ll find that picture and post on my Instagram/Facebook today.
I'd love to see a video on Fred Simeone's collection. When he passed away last year, we lost a real collector. His museum in Philadelphia is a genuine gem.
As far as I'm concerned Ralf Lauren has the best car collection in the world, bar none. As a kid in the 80's, I didn't have the typical Countach poster, I had a Porsche 959 poster. Just like the car at 24:28. I love the old prewar cars in his collection like the 8C Alfa and blower Bentley best. Back in the late 90's I had a very nice 1/18th die cast McLaren F1 LM with opening doors. How about doing a episode on Jay Leno's collection? I know it's huge and impressive, and easily comparable to any other big collection. Thank you.
i remember getting passed by RL in his Carrera GT on the NY West Side HWY, in 2008/or/9, on my way back home from work. I remember the sounds and i remember that downshift to get past us all in a blink of an eye... that sound...

You have to appraise Jean-Pierre Kämers cars, he is known on TH-cam as JP Performance and is the biggest german car TH-camr. Amazing collection, I am sure you all will enjoy it!
There's some videos on TH-cam that show Ralph Lauren's entire car collection. That man has such an amazing collection. Some of his cars are sheer class while others are just beasts. His antique vehicles are stunning.
Love the series! I do however struggle with collections that are more art than they are cars. A great collection and a testament of great taste nonetheless.
Great video, as always! Funny that John mentioned Stroll when discussing the 288. His collection would be worth reviewing too. Since you mentioned Lauren's three F1's, I thought I'd share this next bit. I think it's widely known now that Stroll has two; a silver road car, one of 64, chassis # not public, and a longtail gtr, chassis 23R, one of 9 longtails. Fun fact, he's the original owner of his road car, and he's the only known owner to have spec'd an ashtray! Big cigar fan. He also spec'd a baby seat with matching upholstery! I have a few pictures of his personal garage in Tremblant as well as a video my father filmed when we visited his dealership back in 2004. A relative used to work for him and I got to sit in his F40 (can't remember if it was the standard car or GTE, I'd have to find the pictures), but it's been my favourite car since I was around 8 years old so I was thrilled to say the least. I haven't seen the video in at least 15 years so I'd have to hunt the camcorder cassettes, but there was a silver car there that, from looking at other pictures I have, I think was his silver 250 TR. Simply gorgeous car, even for a 13-year-old who didn't know what these most of these cars were at that time and didn't speak English. He's got other unique cars as well, very interesting collection, that is for sure.
Lawrence Stroll has sold BOTH of his McLaren F1s. The chassis of his road car was 052, and he sold it to Rob Walton (Walmart billionaire heir) and it resides in Arizona. His other F1, F1 GTR Longtail (23R) was sold to the United Kingdom and was recently purchased by a collector in the Midwest USA who has three other F1s, including F1 LM2 (the *other* F1 LM in the US that isn't Ralph Lauren's). In fact, Stroll has sold off lots of his collection, including his Ferrari 250 GTO. It is much less impressive than it once was.
@@cgbsales95 Interesting stuff. I haven't been active on the different forums in years, maybe I should go back and read some of Peloton's posts too. I knew Stroll's divorce hit hard, never thought he'd ever sell the F1's, though. I figured the GTO, the TR, both F1's, and the 330 would always stay with him. I knew he sold the track and dealership, both to Gad Bitton, who I suspect also bought LS's FXX. He still owns his house in Tremblant according to the city's website, I'm guessing it will be for sale in the near future too given that he doesn't own the track anymore and has liquidated a lot of cars. Thanks for the update on the cars, I had stopped keeping up with the info as my relative stopped working for him 5 years ago.

I wonder what the plan is for these big collections once they pass on. It would be interesting to have someone talk about the strategy when selling off a big collection. If you were to sell Ralph Lauren's collection how would that even be done? Awesome Episode.
The 57 SC Atlantic is absolutely beautiful. Can't imagine having it in my garage and never driving it. I love cars but if I had the money, I would have to drive them, sorry I also played with my Star Wars figures too!
I have been fascinated by the F1 since first reading about it and seeing pictures in 1992 or 1993. I enjoyed it vicariously through watching both Ed and Jay Leno drive one. Jealous and envious!
On the Atlantique - bragging rights have value. No matter what the most expensive car sold is -that car will sell for MORE, just for that reason. I saw most of these cars at the Louvre in 2011. Amazing.
A single recent art auction had five pieces in nine-figures and the entire personal collection achieved $1.5B in sales. Getting $150M for a single auto is easily doable now.
I saw a Bentley blower when I used to work at the Bentley factory, they have one in the factory museum. I happen to know the insurance on it in 2017 was £5million. (I believe this car was or possibly still is owned by Brian Johnson from AC/DC, could be wrong on this but I know he owns several cars in the Bentley museum)
the pictures everybody sees of the sultan of brunei's cars are over 20 years old and even back then the cars were rusting and had mold and irreparable. i think today most of his collection is beyond salvation
I know it might be cliche, but Ralph Lauren's F1 LM is my single dream car, and yes his specific car (The sultan's cars are prob too rotted to be driven without a lot of work). If I could have any singular car in the world, it would be that one.
I remember around 2002 seeing a F-40 at a car show that was for sale around 450k, a 7.5 return on investment in 21 years is not bad, but there are other cars that had even more insane valuations like the F1 McLaren. That car was not only an amazing buy for driving, but an incredible investment.

It’s been doable for like 50 years now
A world class art collection value makes car collecting like playing with Hot Wheels. And I love cars but they can’t touch art.
@@two3D so true , their is like 10 paintings that are so expensive they don’t even have a price
I saw a Bentley blower when I used to work at the Bentley factory, they have one in the factory museum. I happen to know the insurance on it in 2017 was £5million. (I believe this car was or possibly still is owned by Brian Johnson from AC/DC, could be wrong on this but I know he owns several cars in the Bentley museum)
keep doing these they’re super interesting
"Merely" owning the '58 pontoon fender TR and the '62 250 GTO alone makes his collection world class. Those two cars alone.
the pictures everybody sees of the sultan of brunei's cars are over 20 years old and even back then the cars were rusting and had mold and irreparable. i think today most of his collection is beyond salvation
They are in good condition. I have recent pictures of them
@@jonah7186 the pictures you see online are 20 years old
@@MisterMistyEyes I have private that are not public online of the cars from far more recently 😏
@@jonah7186 ok car&driver
Everytime Ficarra takes his glasses off take a shot!
Now this is the one I have been waiting for.
This is fantastic! We need a Part 2!
Drink every time Ficarra puts his glasses on then immediately off!
I’m hammered!
Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Mille Miglia - absolutely gem of this amazing collection! ❤️
I know it might be cliche, but Ralph Lauren's F1 LM is my single dream car, and yes his specific car (The sultan's cars are prob too rotted to be driven without a lot of work). If I could have any singular car in the world, it would be that one.
You Should appraise Collier's collection in Naples. Pretty badass and unique!
Excellent content….thanks so much for putting this together. And yes--MORE,MORE,MORE!!!
Sultan of Brunei collection would need it's own tv show to cover it all
Hard to believe its worth more than Leno..we're gonna see! Great show guys
Strange how we argue between a few hundred/thousands on sub 300k car, but when in the millions the digits go up plus/minus 1,000,000
Loved this episode. Can’t wait for more. Would love to see you guys do a collection on the sultan if brunei himself.
The cars that weren't dumped into the sea, are rotting.
I remember around 2002 seeing a F-40 at a car show that was for sale around 450k, a 7.5 return on investment in 21 years is not bad, but there are other cars that had even more insane valuations like the F1 McLaren. That car was not only an amazing buy for driving, but an incredible investment.
So refreshing and interesting, more about the stories than the appraisals, which is just a bonus!
959 was the spaceship era like the Bugatti. That group B rally era that fed in to super cars like rs200 where just amazing
Before I came across this channel I never knew cars could be art
I love this content specially when you guys agree to disagree or go back on forth on future prices I can’t wait for the next one !
Fun fact; I watched this and a member of my family is the oncle of Ralf's right hand that has worked for him in NYC for over 15years
These vlogs are amazing to watch, thank you boys.
Did hearing them say, "Amazing" 12 times, trigger you in to typing it?
@@timkinley1779 I thought I counted a few more lol
@@IDv8I Ole Ed saturates his narrations with "amazing"s. Especially when describing VinWiki sponsors. He's always good for several "amazing"s per speech. Once you notice it, you'll aways notice it. Luckily he hasn't fell into the 'literally" rabbit hole.
I have a feeling you should also cover the collection of Sam Li (owner of both F12TRS & some insane race cars) as it’s one of the lesser known collections. Maybe someday soon!
John Temerian was right there is one F1 LM in the MidWest its in Chicago it showed up at a car show last weekend!
Such an enjoyable 40 minutes. Could’ve listened to another 40.
If this same 'top 5 cars' format could be applied to the known Sultan of Brunei collection. that would be Awesome!
got to see the SSK in person. absolutely in awe
I like that you finally got into some back and forth!
