    I couldn’t find any videos that showed an electric awning fabric replacement either. This was the best one. All the others removed both ends and unwound the spring, but it’s a much better idea to block the tension spring on the left side and not even have to bother with that. Much easier to slide everything out on the motor end just like you did. I think I’m ready to do my own awning now. Thanks for the video.

    Ordered the recpro material for our Freelander. Should be in this week. Your method seems to be the easiest I have found. I just can't seem to find a helper quite like yours. 👍 Thanks

      Be cautious of the spring end. It's a little tough getting the
      Tool out of the spring end. Other than that, it's a very straight forward project.

    • @LifeisaHighwayRV
      @LifeisaHighwayRV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      On the top and bottom directly to the Gas Strut were they attach. I put the end of the strap directly over the mounting point top and bottom. This keeps the strut from opening.

    You said drill out the rivets with a 5/16 bit, but I'm sure you meant 3/16.

    • @RBG-tr9ce
      @RBG-tr9ce 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      He is just removing the head of the rivet. Once that is off the rivet comes off.

  • @marceloortigao439
    @marceloortigao439 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Thanks for the video, very helpful. I had a couple of questions/comments one of which similar to another commenter regarding the issue of the T allen holding the spring and the straps holding the struts: which one is best to remove first?
    The second question: where exactly did you place the hooks for the tide down straps on the struts to prevent them from flying out? I was having a hard time visualizing it. Thanks again!

    • @LifeisaHighwayRV
      @LifeisaHighwayRV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      1) Remove the T handle first. It will be under tension and a little tough to pull out, so use caution.
      2) I placed the straps directly on top and bottom of the struts were thier mounted on the support. This pulls the struts together preventing them from expanding.
      Thanks for watching and best of luck with your project.

  • @andrewk1916

    LIAH- Thanks for sharing this one! I too havne't been able to find a great video (although Darren from My RV Works has a good one) on this and I need to replace mine as well and this just gave me the confidence to do it myself! A couple of questions- 1) you didn’t remove/unwind the spring and didn’t have any issues once re-assembled? 2) at the end when you release the gas struts, do you want to release the sping first and then the struts so the awning is free to rotate when the struts are released? It looks like it gets pretty taught once the struts are released. I assume you retracted (brought it in) the awning when you said "bump it" to relieve pressure off the spring. Or is my logic flawed by releasing the spring before the ratchet straps on the struts? At the end, it’s clear that you had the awning fully extended and raised since you could see the bend out of the arms- Thanks for sharing!

    • @LifeisaHighwayRV
      @LifeisaHighwayRV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I pulled out the tool I used to hold the spring in place before removing the straps to hold the struts in place. I had to bump it out a very tiny amount to relieve some of the stress on the tool I put t through the hole on the spring side, which is a little hard to find. Then just pulled it out when ready to retract. It was a little hard to get back out, but to bad. Make sure you use a tool or something thats easy to grip (not a nail).
      Best of luck and Thanks for the comments and for watching. I hope this helps answer your questions.

  • @boppieh8448

    Did you drill a hole in the spring side for the t handle Allen? It’s hard to see in the video

    • @LifeisaHighwayRV
      @LifeisaHighwayRV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, there's a hole there, just hard to find. Have someone bump it so you can find it. It's there. Be careful with that spring side.
