Guys don’t take this the wrong way but I really do like seeing folks without much working and doing their best. Many “improvement” shows are so staged with all the right tools and perfect materials to work with. It is real world what you guys are doing. Keep pushing on!!!
Lol regular people remodel their homes every single day. If you're doing the remodel work yourself, you should already expect to buy the tools for the job and have that budgeted before. Sometimes it might be cheaper to pay someone else's time that to do it yourself. Sometimes it's not. Depends what you know, what tools you have and and what works best for your situation.
You're doing great you guy's! I applaud your ethics in wanting to make sure you repair and replace everything you find wrong with your home before you sell it to someone else. Most people would just pass the problems on to the next buyers, like they were passed on to your family. It's good to know there are still honest people in this world. Great job you guys! I can't wait to see how it looks when it's all completed. I pray God blesses your family with a wonder home this next time.
Great job on the door and flooring. "surprises" are the norm in DYI or contractor work. No surprise to you and Ashley I am sure. A suggestion.....in installing your door and sealing it with the putty strip, the trailers surface has elevation changes, or valleys along the doors vertical lengths. Those valleys depth may compromise the integrity of the putty's sealing ability. A sideways driving rain may find entry. My suggestion is that you follow up with a bead of good quality white caulk around the doors edge as added leak prevention insurance. Terrific work as usual. Stay safe.
Y’all definitely take these extra projects in stride. We have an older home, 75 years old. Lolz. And it’s just expected, when we start on some repair project, we usually find more issues. I admire your positivity while you work.
Thanks for showing me how to replace the flooring in the mobile home. My floors our fine, but we do have a leak under the sink. I know your techniques will come in handy when I replace the flooring under there. Again, you handled the task with no problem. Nice job!
Leaks under sinks aggravate me because they happen soo often. I always wonder why someone hasn't found a better way yet. I hope you have a successful fix when you get to it :)
You guys surely have lots of patience! When there's a problem, you just tackle it...and with a positive attitude!! I love the flooring you chose for the hall..very nice! The new windows will make a huge difference too! You guys awesome!!
I totally agree about the colour of the laminate floor, that area needs lightening up. So glad you cut back all the water damaged flooring I was groaning” oh please don’t leave it like that “ you think very much likeI do. If you are doing a job might as well do it properly
Always find things that need repaired on older homes. You need to get you a good caulking gun, and a ton of caulk before you paint the place. Maybe rent an electric one. Otherwise your going to have forearms like Popeye squeezing the trigger a million times! LOL House is looking good though! Your little Belle girl made me nervous walking barefoot across those beams. I'm thinking NAILS! NAILS! NAILS! 😳OK, Cool! NO NAILS! LOL Don't mind seeing a little blood and tears, Just not hers! LOL Best of luck guys! Waiting for the next video.
Love the laminate, very similar to what we have. Good job on the repairs, it would be nice to do a repair and not find further damage though. You two are such hard workers. God Bless.❤
We need to repair some areas of flooring in our mobile home and now that I’ve seen this, it doesn’t seem as overwhelming. 🙂 Life happens and projects are rarely as simple as we expect. But that is the “fun” of working on your own home! 😉 By the way, that bedroom wall you built looks awesome in the background!
Being overwhelmed or intimidated are some of the biggest hurdles. Sometimes staying positive and just giving it a try goes a long way. Thanks about the wall, we love it too :)
All I heard was "welcome to our mobile home in the country" and I hit the subscribe button. I lived that way my whole life And damn proud of it, Finally bought my own mobile home in the holler and it's undergoing tons of upgrades and will be a homestead when the time comes.
It gets really loud some days. It's been kind of a weight off our shoulders to talk about it on our channel because now we aren't as worried about trying to hide the noise. A lot of people live along the highway and don't seem to mind so I'm sure there is someone out there who will enjoy this property. The guy who lived here before us was here for over 20 years.
You guys always have a great attitude about things. I don't think anything other than I'm super interested in how you'll attack it. With that said, love your solution to the floor. Go team. LOL! Can't wait to see it all done.
I so understand how 1 repair leads to another (if you are going to do it right) I appreciate these videos as I am a single woman with very little hands on experience & you show me 1st hand how to do the repair. I have a 1970 mobile home with a lot of the same repairs needed. Thank you!
You do seem to take one step forward then 2 steps back, but as you say its life. I think in the long run you will know in your hearts that you have done a wonderful and honest job of all the improvements. We wouldn't be human either if we didnt "feel" for you in some of your pursuits, but guys you do such an awesome job and of course it will help so much in the sale. Good luck xx
The "can of worms" syndrome happens to everyone. I can start a 30 minute project and watch helplessly as it turns into an all day or multi-day job including 9 trips to the hardware store. Its good t o see that some people can still do things for themselves! There are a lot of people who don't even cook. Food is delivered by a guy wearing a funny hat.
You're doing a great job. Good thing you are so handy. It's nice to see someone so honest now-a-days. So many people would just cover up the bad spots, to make it look good, and sell it for as much money as possible. I would feel good buying your place....if I ever wanted to live in Indiana. Keep up the good work!
Seeing this from a real persons pov is really refreshing. My moms mobile home needs some work and i am trying to tackle each project slowly. One major one is both doors and the entryway need to be fixed so this gives me a good idea of things. Thank you guys for showing your work.
I appreciate how much you are fixing even though you're selling. Me and my stepdad basically redid our entire trailer because the way they build them is so wrong and careless and criminal... everything is rotted and lacking and they just keep saying it is "normal" and they keep building them that way... so messed up. Anyway, really happy to see your honesty and kindness in the way you upgraded this to sell.
I've lived in plenty of mobile homes and over the years we've always replace the doors and retrofitted house doors and house windows and how is water heaters and of course replaced all that gray plastic piping with copper piping now we use PEX always replace all the faucets and stuff with good quality house stuff it makes a big difference
Ace has everything. I've found some strange old parts for old toilets, etc. at Ace when nobody else could help me. You did a great job in getting those leaks all cleaned up. Now, you'll know you did the right thing. It's really nice. Yes, it's all part of life. There's alway going to be surprises when you are remodeling/fixing. Great attitudes... Makes it all go easier.
I love watching your videos. I saw your post on Fb about the mean posts...don't let naysayers and bullies get to you. you are doing the best you can for you and for your kids and that is just fine. I love how honest you guys are and how you guys are so open with not only your kids but with your viewers..I love how you include the kids in everything. keep up the good work.
I remember tearing out the old carpet in the trailer l bought. Not only do you find out that the floor is damaged but they put the walls down over the linoleum, then put down carpet padding, and then the carpet. The carpet was the original in the back room so the padding was nothing but dried up, hard crusty dust. I had to cut all the carpet out from under the walls. Such a stupid way to build something. Your videos just bring back memories NOT all good.😂
I am trying to cope with these same problems on a tight budget. I was blessed to find my ancient single-wide and lot at a price I could afford. 1972 mobile home that was not well built. But my previous neighborhood had become very dangerous. But - one of the past owners was a talented cabinet maker, some of the shelves and built-in cabinets are well-built and beautiful. Thank you for sharing. I respect your standards and skilled work. I like that you include your child.
As a "Do it yourselfer", I know that the simple project can turn into a more involved job. Until you take it a part, you cannot tell how involved the job really is. Good Video! Please keep them coming.
Thanks for posting this. I am getting into a mobile home that is going to need some work done to it. One of them is a door I was thinking about replacing, and the other is a floor soft spot. So, this combo video had info I needed.
I have to do the same thing with my 1970 mobile home. I saved it for almost last because it doesn't seem to be actively leaking, and there was a LOT more renovation needed everywhere else! Thanks for this video, now I know what to expect.
I commend you on your choices to always do a home improvement job the right way and fix the issues rather than patch or hide them. Ide be happy to buy a home from you because I know I'm getting honesty about the house. Good video keep up the good work! Seems like your channel has grown recently and I'm happy to see it
Great job guys as you said anytime you tackle older homes no matter if its stick built or mobil home you always find issues that have to be addressed....love to see young couples using common sense....i was employed with clayton homes for 22yrs last 10yrs as a area coordinator please feel free to ask me anything if you guys run into anything you have questions about...great job love the red stripe
Hi Scott, need to replace the bathtub and water damaged flooring in the bathroom of our MH. How would you replace the tub? Can't figure out how to get the old tub out or the new tub in. Thanks.
@@asmodeusasmodeus7591 getn the old tub out is gonna be tricky depending on how old your mobile home is most tubs are screwed in to all the surrounding studs most tubs are i stalled before any of the walls are in place before i can give you a correct way of doing this there is a few things i need to know 1st does the tub go from wall to wall and is it up against the outside wall?

Another job well done, as usual. You guys are doing a fantastic job and it is so nice to be able to witness all the good workmanship as well as teamwork in a married couple with two beautiful kiddos. Please know we are cheering you on!!!💖💖💖💖
I can totally understand and relate to the "crying face" at 2:52!! Any home reno project I do is *always way more* than I planned. You guys do a great job!
Glad I found your channel we just moved to Florida from Indiana and have never lived in a mobile home our entire lives. The one we bought needs a couple little things fixed on the floor I had no idea how to go about doing it but after watching your channel you’ve given me the courage to be able to do it!
Turns out, these are the moments of life. So I suggest you celebrate them. After all I get to, just watching you live them again knowing your supposed to as the generations go forward.
My son picked up a 1967 Kirkwood mobile home for free last month. Needs quite a bit of work. I've hired a very good handyman to take care of the three bigger issues, although he might be doing a bit more. The home has not been lived in or taken care of for 30 years. We found 30 year old National Geographics and newspapers. The main issue is that about 5 feet of one of the walls has pulled away from the floor due to rot. The 2nd issue is sealing the roof. The third issue is the electrical box. It's all fuses. That's getting replaced. All wiring is copper. Tubs and sinks are cast iron. I will be taking care of floor rot, minor plumbing, flooring, painting and insulation underneath. We are getting a heat pump and new duct work installed. I saw a video last week showing how to make the paneling look like sheet rock. I'll be doing that as well as replacing the doors. The exterior paint is gone and some of the metal needs replaced. I'll be replacing the metal and repainting. I bought a 20 gallon air compressor and a cheap, but highly recommended paint gun.
I love the old vintage mobiles because they have real wood and metal! Travel trailers are just a step down to work on. You can still find them with real toilets and bathtubs in them.I learned a lot watching you. Thank you! your little boy will have a very good work ethic when he grows up.
Btw have you decided on if your keeping the outside the same colours? I know you're doing white and keeping the style (stripe) but are you also keeping the orange? 🐡🐡🐡 I feel like you may have said the barn red colour which would look good but if you dont end up doing that maybe a nice forest dark green? 🌲🌲🌲 As the stripe since most of the inside is neutral or green (in the kitchen counters? from memory maybe im imagining the old ones lol idk) it would blend really well with the surrounds but if you dont want it to be the more forest tones like the neutrals and the woods but more like the barn then thatd look super cool too! I think more people are attracted to red anyway. 🍎🍎🍎 The almost japanese neutral wooden style you have going on really suits your minimalism too. Very elegant and refreshing! 💖
Still studying for my expected & known near future! Next refresher lesson: Our mobile home was more rotted than we thought. lol, I know mine will be. It helps to know what I will see before I start pulling places apart. I need to be able to make sound judgments before I start dumping the equivalent of a year or two's living expenses into it. Just in case it is so bad that I might need a backup plan if it turns out to be non salvageable. I absolutely need to make this work. But I have noticed many people in my new area are not living in much better circumstances, though they look well off on the surface of things. People have been very candid & open with me, & I have also been very observant of what I have seen & of how they have problem solved solutions. It is wonderful!
Great video, great job, and great family. Buddy you are a lucky man. Your girl totally gets into helping you and thats how it should be. Would like to meet you all some time. You look like the kind of folks that would welcome a stranger in for a bite of dinner and some great conversation. Thats how I am. I believe that how we all should be. God bless and great work. Lovely family
We go back to this video me asking how to get the door and still like to thank you ago few years later we totally respect all the videos you've all done i learned alot and found out today on what part you lived and understand what you all feel and the people on the negative wow ignore them keep up and teach we learn from you 2 and thanks again
Mobile homes were built so cheaply it amazes me. They tried to save every penny. Even the insulation is minimal because if you insulate fully you tend to get condensation problems. A house that breathes well, will not be insulated well, but one that breathes well will not likely have condensation problems. I'm thinking of a remodel for my trailer, and would like adequate insulation, and an air space behind the siding, going from crawl space to roof vent.
The door and floor look awsome!!😀👍🏾👍🏾 I agree with Ashley, I like the diamond window😁 Doug! 😬 put your gloves on. You guys did another awsome job!!❤❤❤ I love watching yalls journey and adventures. Thank you for sharing.🤗
I was inspired by watching you two work on your home. We bought a new gas range and pulled out the old electric slide in and had gas run for the new stove. My oldest son and I will now install it.

You're learning a lot on mobile home construction, that's for sure!
Anytime you tear into old construction, you can expect "little surprises". But like you said, it wasn't really so much of a surprise.
You’re doing such a great job! When it’s finished you may decide to take it with you! I look forward to every vlog. Blessings....

Wow! Will be looking forward to any updates you share as y’all progress!
I love the old vintage mobiles because they have real wood and metal! Travel trailers are just a step down to work on. You can still find them with real toilets and bathtubs in them.I learned a lot watching you. Thank you! your little boy will have a very good work ethic when he grows up.
I need to replace my door, looks just like that one. Good to know what I might be getting myself into. Thank you!
Your work and life ethics are admirable. Blessings for you!
Lol I love all the fixing and remodelling, I look for places I can work on 😉
Excellent work. I liked seeing the insulation underneath was still in tact!!
I admire your tenacity and talent . Good work.
Your wife is lucky. You are such a handy man.
Her husband is lucky. She is a willing and cheerful helper.
You guys did a wonderful job, and yes it's life, when you think you have it under control something else pops up, thank you for sharing God bless....
Love y'all great positive outlook and attitude aI am enjoying watching you and your sweet family work together
wow! your going to have a total rebuild before long. good job
haha I was just saying that. Thank you.
Btw have you decided on if your keeping the outside the same colours? I know you're doing white and keeping the style (stripe) but are you also keeping the orange?
🐡🐡🐡
I feel like you may have said the barn red colour which would look good but if you dont end up doing that maybe a nice forest dark green?
🌲🌲🌲
As the stripe since most of the inside is neutral or green (in the kitchen counters? from memory maybe im imagining the old ones lol idk) it would blend really well with the surrounds but if you dont want it to be the more forest tones like the neutrals and the woods but more like the barn then thatd look super cool too! I think more people are attracted to red anyway.
🍎🍎🍎
The almost japanese neutral wooden style you have going on really suits your minimalism too.
Very elegant and refreshing! 💖
We believe we will go with red and white but we may end up reversing them so there is only one red stripe. and the rest white.
Fantastic video I wish more people good mobile home repair videos nice job :).
I could watch this kind of real life home improvement all day.
Love how you work together. Such a good job.
Really great job!
Thank you :)
you two are very entertaining...like real people next door
Better than when it was originally built. Good job on the repairs.
I been there. Always a can of worms every time you start diggin on a 70s trailer.
Timi Wood I agree Timi... Doug you must have some left x
I was inspired by watching you two work on your home. We bought a new gas range and pulled out the old electric slide in and had gas run for the new stove. My oldest son and I will now install it.
Awesome. I hope all goes smoothly for you.
The mobile home I live in now is number 7.I like to tinker and fix them up and I believe anything can be fixed.Have fun !
Thank you so much for documenting what we can expect when we replace our door.
