    Brand new, looking to get started with music in general, but specifically the Hurdy Gurdy. I'm going to do it, no matter how hard it is or how long it takes. I just want you to know, I appreciate you, it's extremely difficult to find this kind of information about HG. Thank you from a future HG player! :)

    Hello Sergio! I'm starting with a second-hand gurdy and after seeing the video I have a question:
    I understood you can stretch the C drone string to sound like a D, but can you do the same with the melodic strings? Because mine already look too stretched when they sound open G, I'm afraid they may break if I try an A.

      D/G tuning is most of the times higher than G/C although there’s some modern trend using Viola C strings to have a D3

    During your string recommendations you list a .84mm savarez as working for the G trumpet, but when looking for the string .84mm is listed as an A and .89mm is listed as a G. Was this a typo? Or are you saying to tune an A string to G? I'm planning to build a nerdy gurdy and this has been the most helpful info I've found to figure out what strings to use for trumpets, thank you.

    • @Sergio.GonzalezPrats
      @Sergio.GonzalezPrats  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Savarez Alliance from classical guitar is 0.84 in fluorocarbon, this is to be tuned in C or D in G it works but its best to choose a thicker string for G trompette, something like 1.20mm

  • @fouellet1701
    @fouellet1701 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is interesting but wouldn't it be simpler as a reference to mention what a typical 6-string G/C tuning uses? Like, G4 chanterelles if in unison, or G4 and G3 if tuned an octave apart, C4 trompette, G3 mouche, C3 petit bourdon, G2 gros bourdon.

  • @ジョンシナ420
    @ジョンシナ420 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    is Kürschner good for melody strings? All suppliers near me are out of vision strings, and on Kürschner's website they recommend a 0,82mm plain gut for G' chanterelle. They're also recommending a 1,62mm wound gut for G (I'm trying for a setup where one of my chanterelles is one octave lower than the other). I've used savarez gut for chanterelles but I am not liking the sound too much.

    • @Sergio.GonzalezPrats

      If you like gut on chanters, I think Kürschner is the best, but I personally enjoy viola strings more on my gurdy

    • @Sergio.GonzalezPrats
      @Sergio.GonzalezPrats  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The drones and trompettes CAN be tuned in C and G, but that has nothing to be with G/C tuning because they can also be tuned to D or A ;)
      As I explain in the video G/C = open melody string / root note of the scale with more range

    2. fist trumpet string is connected with nylon string to the tuning peg on bottom, what is this? do I have to cut it off?
    3. it only has 1 tuning peg on the bottom what is this for?
