    Hello!
You all asked where to buy a good hurdy gurdy for beginners. These are a bunch of my favourite recommendations in no particular order. I hope you find something you’ll love here.
(Do keep in mind, I am just one person and this is just my opinion. Trust your own ears first 😉)

2:49 ... "... really bad...I'm not going to be covering them" Hear that, Bill Mehess?! You dodged a bullet!
    Huzzah for Nerdy Gurdy!!
    Huzzah for Robert Mandel!!
It's too bad there really are no consistent builders in the USA since the Hackmans and Mel Dorries retired 😥
Nice roundup of current good builders!!!

Thank you! I posted this to my Facebook page as I often have people asking me about "beginner" hurdy gurdies and it never hurts to have another good opinion on the subject. :)

As someone who'd never even heard of a...Hurdy..Gurdy before BDGs video (Though I had definitely heard A hurdy gurdy before), this was extremely interesting and informative. Just a note, the audio was quite quiet on this one ;)

Btw, my gurdy is a Encanta by Geralf Grems. Its a rather small instrument but a very strong one. People are always impressed, that this little gurdy has such a power. I can recomment it.

They all look and more importantly sound amazing. I'd known of this instrument for years but I didn't realize it was so expressive. The sound is personal preference of course but I do like the Philippe Mousnier designs. I've got about as much musical ability total as most folk would have in their little finger but I'm tempted.

Great valuable video thank for making the efforts to get al the info in sight. I have had the Hurdy Gurdy on my scope for years and now feel more drawn to it then before.
I am a multi instrumentalist and music educator for years now so i feel i will pick up the Gurdy playing feel quickly.
Indeed the main question you just answered : where would a beginner buy a proper one.
Thank you for the efforts made to creat this video i will be doing some home work for now :-)

I think it would be helpful to explain the various configurations and features to look for, for example: how many chanterelles, bourdons, dogs, etc and what they do! Also, the tunings, and added features such as sympathetic strings and key changers. Little demonstrations of what the sounds are with one, two or more chanterelles.

My furst gurdy is from a luthier in the US. Was not too expensive and allowed me to make sure that the gurdy is something I want to learn. Now have a Saphonia ($5000.00 +)on order from MM instruments and seriously looking foward to it.

Here's an easy way to raise your audio levels, if you have already maxed out your audio volume in your video editor. Unlink the audio track from the image track, if they are linked. Then you can copy the audio track and create multiple vertical stacks of this audio track. Or else output an "audio only" track, then pull that track into your timeline, and stack vertically. Then you can ouput and re-load this so that it becomes a file that can be easily heard by all. I have the volume turned up all the way on two computers and can barely hear it. The fix is easy....

hello! today a Nerdy Gurdy costs 800 €... huge inflation, huge demand, or what?

    • @FeePhiFolkFum
      @FeePhiFolkFum 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

You are comparing apples to oranges. The price of €300 mentioned in the video is for the old Nerdy Gurdy V6 kit, that you'd have to build yourself. What you are talking about at €800 is the pre-build Linotte model, which is not only the newest model under the Nerdy Gurdy brand but obviously a pre-build, ready-to-play instrument is going to cost more than a kit.
What you should be comparing the price to is the Nerdy Gurdy Basic Kit, currently priced at €320. An updated model from the one mentioned in the video, but the predecessor to the Linotte.
I think a price increase of only €20 over 3 (very fiscally challenging) years AND you get a better model for it is very reasonable. Most others mentioned on this list got a lot pricier over the same time period.
