It's a shame the controller does not have HDMI out - a bit of an oversight? If it did, it would make a perfect long-distance live video link for outside broadcast/film cameras transmitting 1080p50/60 back to a unit truck vision mixer. Teradeks transmit much shorter distances than you achieved and they cost thousands.

I have seen a video whereby the guys had a Rover and they were in a multistory car park and it looked like they drove the rover right around the concrete middle elevator structure. At least that's what it looked like. Maybe not the best test but when you think about it it's not bad. Clear image and control on the other side of the steel and concrete.

Thanks for doing the test. At the 16 km distance the red text on the pod screen shows less than 1.5 Mb/s. This is a rather low transfer rate and the video would've looked rather poor if the camera (and with it the whole picture) was rolling or closing on a terrain, like it often happens on the actual plane. Still, it is a remarkable range for such low-gain antennas.

  • @austntexan
    @austntexan 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The range on this setup is really nice. Have you had a chance to experiment to casting the video to a larger monitor or maybe outputting to goggles of some sort? I'd love to wear goggles and fly with HD video. How might that be accomplished with this system? Would you cast the video from the remote to HDMI receiver of some sort?

Excellent Review, Impressed with the range. You have put my mind at rest, I have paid a lot for the beta unit and I was very worried with the range. Thank you for your review's and you have helped me a lot in setting up the system since it did not come with the manual. I have also purchased a GoPro 7 Black and the managed to test it successfully. One question though, about the placement of the Herelink antennas, does both the antennas have to face forward? In this instance what will happen if the drone faces away from me, will I have the same reception? Or does one of the antenna face forward and the other face backward so that they will cover 360 radius? Please help since I am in the process of finalizing the placement of antennas.

They are flat panel omnidirectional so In a vertical position they should give the same range all around

Any chance of doing a demo with the Herelink on a fixed-wing platform? There's almost nothing online about this system. I really thought this was going to introduce HD back to fixed-wings. The Disco is still the only thing out there and it's not really a long range platform in its stock state.

    i would like to buy the Pixhawk 2.1 w/ Here2 .
someone is selling a bundle RFD900+ Telemetry Set with the Pixhawk 2.1w/here 2.
I've been flying 3D RC Helicopter for over 10 years. i am just getting into planes VTOL for long range and new to this technology. please explain
    1) why do you have two 2x RFD900? and why do i need two of them to fly?
    2) Radio Modems, I assume is for 4GLTE flight?
    3) i am trying to do my homework to learn about the following antennas and weather i need a
Radio license to use them in the USA?
    a) Antenna, 900MHz Quarter wave monopole 2.1dBi
    b) Antenna, 900MHz Right Angle Quarter wave monopole 2.1dBi
    4) i went out to the flying field to speak to some Drone pilots but they tried to stear me towards the TBS long range system instead, because according to them,it a better system and everyone has The TBS installed and I'll be able to get more help setting it up . so now i am confused.
    5) i am setting up a VTOL 2120mm (skywalker x8) wing span plane for VTOL.
    please answer ASAP

Hi, hope u r fine. So far u r the only one who got 16km range on what i would say in "some what ideal situation". How about some real world testing on a proper Multi-Rotor or Plane, where the antennas are moving around and the interference of high current and switching frequencies of ESCs. Plz post video on some real world testing of the maximum range in FCC mode. Other than you, ppl have managed 1km to 2km range on HereLink ONLY!!!. One has gone to maximum of 5km. I want to spend on this device but I am not sure whether it will give the stated range. I have to use it in nu-urban area and I want 12km solid HD video and control range, so your testing is very very important for me, it can save me 850$. plz reply.

It would be illegal for me to fly this out beyond VLOS in the U.K. that’s deemed as 400ft. The test was done to prove the rages could be achieved. Now with many systems there is always things that come into play like antenna placement and local interference. Iv been trying to come up with a legal way of demonstrating some range however that’s extremely difficult. Posting videos online of illegal flights as a comercial operator would not only result in me loosing my licence but also getting prosecuted.
The basically realty is the system is capable of 16km but again like all range it’s subjective. DJI FPV is capable of 5-6KM on average and I’d be using that as a base line but in the perfect conditions these longer figures are possible but that’s not the norm.

@@MadRC Thank you for such a satisfying reply.
I have been reading few comments on other forums as well, is there any effect of sea on the range? because ppl relate the good range is due to sea. what is special in the sea that it can extend the range or gives a good clear reception? What i think is that u took this beach/sea side location specially for the clear line of sight as there are no obstacles in the sea. but the same is true when the drone is high up and flying, then the scenario becomes similar to the sea, what you say?
