BTBAM has slowly become one of my favorite modern metal bands. I jumped on board way back with Alaska, lost touch with them a little bit in between, but have been growing in my fandom since Coma. Colors Part Deux is amazing! A favorite is simply too hard to choose. I'll let you guys do it and enjoy my second viewing of this video.

Genuinely surprised by parallax 2 ranking. I think this album fucks from the get-go, with some fantastic interludes (black box into telos is brutal). Lay your ghosts to rest is still top 3 of all time for me.
I think the reason the self-titled album still retains a prominent metalcore sound is because Paul, Tommy, and their drummer at the time, Will Goodyear, were all in Prayer For Cleansing. PFC was a huge influence on the metalcore scene and even bands like The Black Dahlia Murder started out admittedly copying their sound. North Carolina had a good metalcore scene going in the late 90s/early 00s with bands like PFC, Undying, Azazel, From Here On (Tommy's 1st band), End of All, and Day of Suffering.
Rank: 1 Colors 2 The Great Misdirect 3 Parallax* 4 Coma Ecliptic 5 Alaska 6 Automata* 7 Colors II [Albeit still too fresh] 8 The Silent Circus From 3 to 6 I could switch them every month. * 1) I'll consider the Parallax and Automata albums as a whole - as unfair as it may or not be - since I listen to them together. 2) I never payed fully attention to S/T or The Anatomy Of so I can't include them in the list.
This is more like it (Been listening to the albums this week, Alaska is fourth due to its importance in their career, because Itend to listen to Parallax and Automata more often.) 1 - Colors 2 - The Great Misdirect 3 - Coma Ecliptic 4 - Alaska 5 - Automata* (II > I) 6 - Parallax* (I > II) 7 - Colors II 8 - The Silent Circus Colors and The Great Misdirect: To think they released these two benchmark records of metal history within an interval of two or three years should make the guys in Tool jealous and envious AF - or they'll just claim laziness as one of the stages of their creative process. After these (I would include Alaska there even though it was still rough on the edges) one could think everything was absolutely hard to outdo, well, one would think wrong, these guys proved they had more to their game, namely Coma Ecliptic. I know how beloved Parallax is but there's little if anything new to their sound except for the concept, yet one could argue otherwise about Automata, which I think introduces distinct nudges with robotic twitches that make a difference in that respect. As to the recent, highly expected release of Colors II I find they try little to bring something new to the table, they do it especially in the Synth department, but it mostly sounds like a rehash of their g-old sound - hence the title - where some motifs reappear, and you can even hear bits of Parallax, as others, not the case of The Silent Circus or Alaska though; and we will never hear it again: Paul said in an interview that his fingers couldn´t go as fast anymore, albeit his fingers can do everything else! I´m already looking forward to what's next for BTBAM! Cheers
I almost went and saw them in Virginia Beach with Animals as Leaders, didn't have the funds though. I learned the Selkies sweep section, I'm still tryna find time to learn the rest.

Great vid! It is funny to see that on a lot of fan lists, the bottom 3 are pretty much the same 3. The first 3 albums. I agree with Paul Waggoner, that The Silent Circus is on the bottom of that list. I find it to be their "try hard" album. Everything above that on fan lists is subjective, but you guys fleshed out your reasoning behind your selections very well. Another thing we pretty much all agree with is that when the lineup solidified on Alaska, they only got better. Cheers!
I actually think the great misdirect is my 1 and colors 2nd. Tough call, great band. White walls changed my life and what a song could really be and how powerfull composition can be. Goddamn that chorus
I do love the Prog stuff but I firmly disagree with your rankings because their first 4 albums are their best for me. BTBAM was always so great because they were like a prog death metal band but after colors they just went more prog and less metal and that’s not cool to me. 😂

I hope you’re seeing them this Summer. They’re playing Parallax 2 in its entirety
Super late response but look at Animals as leaders and Chon. Way different but 2 really good bands I think you'd like.

Begs the question, where does Colors II fit in this ranking.? Might need a re- do someday.

This is the beauty of music. Colors and I tire sequence is 1/2
Saw them a long time ago two nights in a row opening for converge. Hell of a show.
Necrotic Nick- I've seen them 8 or 9 times. Jon and I just recently watched their live stream actually. Always a killer live show.
I do love the new albums though.
I could listen to people talk about BTBAM albums all day
Am I wrong or you put 1985 (haken) during the video?
P.s. ok you put songs from affinity, great album
Also, the first 4 albums are all amazing! They’re my favorites but I’ve always been a death and core head. Lol
I love prog metal.
Please a IMMOLATION Ranked!!!
The great misdirect is #1
I actually think the great misdirect is my 1 and colors 2nd. Tough call, great band. White walls changed my life and what a song could really be and how powerfull composition can be. Goddamn that chorus
I like colors, still think its overrated, hyper sleep dialogue is no. 1 for me (currently)
