I don’t know if it will top the original Colors, that’s one of my favorite albums of all time but this album is still incredible and proves that BTBAM still has it. One of my albums of the year if not my Album of the Year.
Necrotic Nick- This is without a doubt a contender for album of the year. There's a lot of competition for that spot though. I'm not sure if this beats Colors but it at least matches it I think. I'm glad they're different sounding albums though. I didn't want a rehash of Colors and I got something so much more.
@@thrallsofmetal colors 2 feels like a remixed bizarro world versions of colors with lotrs of remixes and motifs from the original and honestly their whole discography. Colors 2 feels like meeting an old friend i haven't seen in years and catching up on everything that changed
I had been so caught up with work and life lately I hadn't heard anything about them even writing, let alone a new record coming, until the video for Fix the Error dropped. Watched it on my lunch break and I preordered right away. I learned with Coma Ecliptic, to never have expectations for their bodies of work. After the first listen to that album, I originally felt disappointed in it as a follow up to Parallax II, to the extent that I though they finally released an album I couldn't like. It took me a couple months and about 30 full listens to really digest that album, and now Coma Ecliptic is now one of my all time favorite albums and a staple of what I listen to at work. With Colors II, I had the same hesitance with the name choice as you guys did, but I was sucked in from the first transition in Monochrome and loved it from the very first listen. This is a quintessential BTBAM record... it's familiar and comfortable territory. Tommy continues his knack for great storytelling in his lyrics. It has allusions and interludes that pay homage to previous works, yet still hits you with the unexpected from the ever growing blend of genres that inspire their music and the timbre and flow of the album. Will be listening to this one daily for a few more weeks at least.
Lol ur comment is the opposite of the comment above ubat this time. That person said he wasnt impressed at all and he gives it a 3 for rating and yeah, I'm like wow.. not looking good so far , then ur comments the next one and says 10 and perfect album. Haha I cracked up reading it
Necrotic Nick- It was close to a perfect score this one but I held back. It's brilliant though. It might be the fanboy in me but this album defied my expectations to be honest.
Necrotic Nick- I think this is Tommy Roger's best vocal performance. Those early years his cleans weren't as good but he's become a much better singer over the years.
Apparently i lived under a rock the past 21 years. Never listened to them before, but this review got me interested. Definitly gonna check out out. Have you guys checked out the album of hexorcist- evil reaping Death. IT got some serious blessed are the sick vibes.
Necrotic Nick- This album isn't a bad place to start in terms of getting into BTBAM. I think I jammed a track by Hexorcist on TH-cam and I remember liking it.
Each record is a voyage unto itself and will take several listens to really absorb... but it is so worth it. Alaska was the first album to feature the band as it exists today, but every album is worth listening through and experiencing that journey. If you want to see how they've grown an matured as musicians and songwriters, just start from the beginning with the self titled album, but my favorite is The Great Misdirect... Honestly it doesn't really matter which album you start with because if you like what you hear, you'll get hooked and find your way through all of them.
It really is amazing how this band is able to meld so many different genres of music and make it work as well as they do. No certain piece within the song overstays it's welcome either which keeps each song so interesting and not boring. This one is definitely up there with my favorite BTBAM album and it's not even Colors 1. I'd also say Human is Hell is one of the best songs they've ever written.
Necrotic Nick- I was fearful with the idea that they were doing a sequel to arguably their best album but they blew me away and not in the usual way they do. They're one of the most adventurous bands in prog metal and they continue to put out amazing work. This is something else though since they pretty much matched the original on almost every front.
Exodus are gonna release their long-awaited new album on November 19th, entitled Persona Non Grata. That album will drop the same day as Obscura and Swallow the Sun!
I'd like to redeem myself of some previous opinions about Colors II - it was still fresh and my initial reaction was bitter, although I never said it was a bad album. I lived more with it now, obviously, and I rearranged my thoughts over songs like Fix the Error and The Future is Behind Us, even if these are still not my favorites, I acknowledge the pure inspired brilliance as these are probably the stand out tracks in terms of innovation on the album - BTBAM keep blowing people's minds at every turn! Also, Bad Habits is another track I had overlooked and has definitely grown on me; that choir moment bring me the chills! Human is Hell...what can I say? It has some of my favorite sections of the band's career; and that hook, that Tommy hook reminds of The Mars Volta/At the Drive-in vocalist. Awesome! The tribal drums in Helix… the eerie acoustic fingers in Limbo… the Intronaut clean delayed guitar passage in Never Seen Future Shock… the Rush, Bowie, and 70’s incredible vibe of The Future Is Behind Us… the punk gospel awry of Fix The Error… I could go on and on… This is not as kickass, aggressive and dark (and the quirky moments are not as pleasant to me) as Colors - in no way it matches it - yet I love the subtle nods it pays it as homage, and that it stands on its own. There are still tracks I skip, “fat filler” like Stare into the Abyss and Turbulent (I love Prehistory!) that act as more of forgettable segues, I wish they would had trim it, like Sfumato, which works wonderfully before Human Is Hell, and in that way make it a flawless album (to my ears). Favorite tracks: Human Is Hell; Never Seen / Future Shock; Bad Habits; Revolution in Limbo; Monochrome - The Double Helix Of Existence
it seems like all the great bands are putting out good stuff Obscura the few songs I've heard has been real promising Dream theater, Iron maiden, Allegeon but btbam was the most anticipated and it did not disappoint

Necrotic Nick- Future Sequence is a killer album. I'm a huge fan of Coma Ecliptic which I think is one of their best albums. There's more of a 50/50 split in terms of harsh to clean vocals on that one. It really has some of their catchiest songs.

I fall on the negative side of the spectrum toward colors II. I don't like the overall mood and tonality: too pretty and corny, and they fail when attempting something new line in The Future is Behind Us (I see the Rush influence but it sounds more like a sunday afternoon movie picture 😅 ) Turbulent × (Jonathan Davis impersonation?), Sfumata ( I see its purpose now compare it with Viridian). Prehistory is interesting and I like Stare into the abyss but they seem like segues. While I can't argue with Btbam prowess and joyous sonic ride, I feel like Colors II is uninspired. Favorite tracks: Monochrome /The Double Helix of Extinction; Never Seen - Future Shock; Human is Hell. Honorable mentions: Revolution in Limbo Bad Habits (yet both pop up vocal moments - pun intended - a bit cringy to my ears). If there's one thing Colors II made me realize was how Automata is a crowning achievement I had misjudged.
Necrotic Nick- I'm definitely on the other side of this one apparently but I can see where you're coming from. For me it came off as a cool balance between some of their more recent albums like Automata and that insane Colors sound. It's definitely a different album than Colors which I like because it stands apart from it.

But without the crunchy guitars and visceral vocals - it comes out as just another modern prog record. Definitely a 3 for me too!
Necrotic Nick- I think Revolution in Limbo and Never Seen/ Future shock packed the old Colors heaviness but this was a different. They've been embracing more of their prog side and I like how they integrated it into their more extreme stuff on Colors. I was kinda fearful that they'd just try to copy the formula of Colors so this was refreshing for me.
