To add to the Destination rant.. It's hard to beleive a dealer pays up to 2k per vehicle to have it delivered. You're telling me a truck delivering 10 new vehicles costs 15-20k? I have a hard time believing dealers actually pay that destination charge.
They "don't buy" that people called for hydraulic power steering, but everyone buys that Toyota used a 1980's C-frame and drum brakes for legitimate reasons🤣
When you are 68 years old and have a bad hip those little steps can be the thing that gets you into the truck. Yes, septagenarians want to off road and see the sights they heard about on your show while they sat in a windowless cubicle working for that retirement check. You should have a Geezer segment and one for handicapped off roaders.
The destination fee not being wrapped into the MSRP make me want to negotiate it out at purchase. I will walk away from the dealership for them hanging on to it! If they don’t fix it I’ll move on!
So, it takes a turbo to out torque this engine. So if you want the extra expense of a diesel (DEF fluid, high end oil for diesels and the extra filters) or paying more in gas for a turbo four (mileage goes down when you romp on it), the this is not your truck. They forgot to mention the Dana axles you get in the ProX and 4X. The 4X has more skid plates underneath. This video could have been shortened by 20 minutes.

I think your side-by-side comparison debunked the comments that the new Frontier looks like a Tacoma. It is more squared off and has a stronger, more upright grill like the Taco, but it doesn't really look like the Taco. Your comparo definitely shows Nissan had the Taco in mind when they designed the new Frontier, but as a competitor, not necessarily to be imitated, IMHO. I agree with Roman about the ludicrous destination fees, especially for a domestically assembled vehicle that doesn't have to be shipped across an ocean. Keep ranting about destination fees AND about only offering safety features and LED headlights on the upper trim levels and option packages, Roman! Power to the People! LOL ...and YES! to a NISMO Pro4X and a Pro4X Warrior. They'd kick Toyota's butt! The Frontier social media boards would go wild for those options. We also really want the Xterra to return to US shores. Please, Nissan!

@@dethpig420 That is what I’m waiting for - pricing on these. I was pretty disappointed when they went up $7,500 US in 2020. That was made the frontier amazing - simple, reliable and affordable. Sorry but I can’t get myself to spend 40k US on a mid size when I can get a 2.7 F-150 STX for the same price, which has way more power, better ride, comfort and handling as well as basically the same mpg. I understand the trims compared are totally different, but still, mid size and full size are a whole different segment and I couldn’t justify getting a mid size for that much. I can’t believe people spend as much as they do on broncos, Jeeps and gladiators etc. Could get a diesel one ton for how much some of the higher trims cost.

Just bought a 2017 Frontier SV Premium 4X4 CREW. Solid, refined to the max. Simple, clean styling, including the classic Hardbody grill treatment which really sets it apart. The new one looks both complicated, yet boring as everything else. Bonus: Paperwork shows the underside was completely sprayed with Ziebart when new.
I have a 2012 Nissan Sentra S with over 224,000 miles on it. Never had an issue with the original CVT. I changed the fluid every 60,000 miles as required in the owner’s manual. Nissan is capable to be reliable as Toyota and Honda. You haters should learn how to read a manual and drive a car properly and you won’t have any problems long term.
An after market brake controller is no big deal. Most customers woulnt tow with the truck to a level that they need an integrated trailer brake controller. Ya gotta have brakes on the trailer your towing for a trailer brake controller to be useful. The truck is wired for one so its an easy plug in under the dash, at least the previous gen is. Ive towed a bunch with my 2008 Frontier 4x4 SE crew cab long bed. Most of my towing is of my 6x12 unbraked cargo trailer but I have towed several times with a braked trailer with an aftermarket brake controller plugged into the prewired factory plug and it works great.
Read something quite interesting that Nissan is allegedly kicking around for a power plant, the Nismo upgrade. Make that an option in 2023 and it'll be quite interesting.
Sadly all the mid-size trucks are around 20mpg. You need to get a Maverick or Santa Cruz if you want fuel mileage and a bed or if you have $$$ you can get a hybrid or electric full size truck.
Smiles per gallon not miles per gallon. Also follow the engine break in procedure (so you get higher volumetric efficiency), use high quality synthetic oil, and run it on 89 I get 25mpg in my 2019 4.0.
What am I missing in regards to the Frontier Pro4X? Roman stated that he feels it competes with the Tacoma TRD Off-Road but not the TRD Pro. Why is that the case? It has skid plates just like the Pro. It also has a rear locker, hill descent control, upgraded shocks, etc. Unless I am missing something it feels to me that it directly competes with the TRD Pro Tacoma.
It’s mostly shocks. The TRD pro has fancy Fox shocks, whereas the TRD off road has bilsteins similar to the ones the Pro-4x has. Other than that, they are very similarly equipped.
my ford dealer only gets trucks in that have been factory ordered right now, they occasionally have a Ranger that comes in that lasts a day or two before its sold. superduties are the same.
I watched a video of the Nissan Frontier corporate slideshow and it said that it has "available wi-fi with over the air updates". Hoping that means it can perform over the air software updates.
Thank you for asking about the Xterra. I am holding on to my 2nd gen with the hopes of a refresh. It does make sense they will release a higher trim level after the Frontier is in garages.
I really like the look of this truck, but other than the body changes Im having trouble seeing why I shouldn't just get the 2021 model instead? Seems like it has less "chips" as they put it so there would be less likely something could go wrong.
Funny that Nathans accident was mentioned in the context of being able to afford a replacement. Someone just slammed into the side of my Frontier about a week ago. No injuries thankfully and my truck still drivable. But I have a 2008 Frontier SE 4x4 crew cab long bed with 356,000 miles on it. Guess what. The person that hit me had Geico and they totalled my truck as it was estimated to be around $5000 in repair cost. Basically dented in some if my front passenger fender, both front and rear passenger doors and some of my rear bed side. My doors open and the truck drives aside from a needed flat tire replacement. I feel like I kinda got screwed as they said my truck was worth about $6000 and the salvage buy back was $2200 according to Geico. So now my perfectly good running truck is all bashed up and Ill have to pay to have it fixed after I buy it for the salvage which I will definititely be doing because truck prices are rediculious right now. My plan is to drive my beat up rig till the new Frontier goes on sale and then head to a dealer and try to get a good price on a 2020 with the new drive train while everyone else is lusting over the new one. Then Ill still probably fix the old 2008 myself over time on the cheap as its been an Awesome truck and I know its still got a good bit of life left in it.

This is a video of the audio-only podcast. The podcast alone does not have ads, but when they upload the audio and video to YT, you have kind of a standard video with the ads.
TFL has no control over that. It's TH-cam that does that. I've been a paying subscriber of TH-cam since the TH-cam Red days, so I never see the ads (or commercials) that you and others do. As such, I didn't get a single interruption by any ads during this entire, one hour long webcast.

Eps is more reliable. I've wrecked my truck bent tie rods and beat it bad off road and never had a problem with my eps. Also atvs and utvs use eps for durability off road. Not a deal breaker for sure but every vehicle I had with hydraulic power steering had problems and no problems with my truck or utvs ,atvs with eps. No changing or checking fluids no changing power steering pumps. Could be a coincidence buy doesn't seem like it.
Roman reminds me of the guy who claims he's not biased against a certain football team but every statement he makes about them is a back handed compliment at best. Geez, dude, no over the air updates, really? That's a concern of yours? No one other than Tesla owners give a darn. No electric steering? Hmm, let's see, almost everyone who actually enjoys good driving dynamics and feel prefers hydraulic steering. Electric steering has gotten worlds better but it was done for fuel economy reasons not for a better driving experience. And, yes, Roman, plenty of people know the difference, not just you. Even if they don't they know they like a certain feel regardless of how it's achieved and if hydraulic gives them that then that's what they want. You don't have to know how the widget works in order to know that you like what the widget does. And, thank God there is no stop start available. What the heck do you mean by available? If it were an option that could be left off or permanently switched off any car or truck that has it then every owner of a car that has it would have it deleted after just a couple of days. Dude these are benefits of the Frontier. Plus, know your facts before saying the Frontier or any other vehicle doesn't have things that competing vehicles have because at the end of your veiled disparaging speech you state that the Frontiers competitors "might have" the things you mentioned. So, which is it? They do have or they might have? I know. Do you? Look, despite Roman's not so hidden biases, the Frontier has been and will continue to be a great truck. The fuel economy stinks, that's true, but everything else is great and it will do anything almost any buyer will ask of it. The Tacoma and Ranger will too but for some reason only the Tacoma and Ranger get any credit for turning in their homework. And, seriously, the rock rails are accessories not something you have to buy so they would be something someone chose to put on not something for Nissan to leave off. The NV van came out in 2011, long before the Titan XD. The XD is actually based on the frame from the NV van and not the other way around. While there are several companies offering 4x4 conversions for the NV, it is Tim Dahle Nissan that makes the most factory ready version using components from the Titan XD 4x4 and working with Nissan engineering to revise the ecu to seamlessly integrate the 4x4 system into the van as if Nissan had built it this way. Why on earth Nissan didn't do something with this is beyond me. Someone else did the research and development, Nissan provided the technical integration engineering and it works flawlessly but Nissan looked and said, hmm, who would want that? The real problem with the NV van is space inefficiency. For it's overall length it has the least amount of cargo room of any full size cargo van. Yep, the driver and passenger space is great compared to most vans where the engine intrudes on the driver and front passenger space but it eats cargo space which is what these vans are actually for.

Most of my towing is of my 6x12 unbraked cargo trailer but I have towed several times with a braked trailer with an aftermarket brake controller plugged into the prewired factory plug and it works great.
Is the turning radius any better in the new truck? Cause the old one sucks...
I hope they retuned the ABLS on the Frontier to make it more aggressive for off roading on the Pro-4X.
you guys keep talking about the Honda ridgeline is that really considered a truck compared to The Colorado , Ranger, tacoma , frontier etc ?
Read something quite interesting that Nissan is allegedly kicking around for a power plant, the Nismo upgrade. Make that an option in 2023 and it'll be quite interesting.
Man that mpg is having me second guessing purchasing this.
I know… like… why… lol
Disappointing fo cheesey
Sadly all the mid-size trucks are around 20mpg. You need to get a Maverick or Santa Cruz if you want fuel mileage and a bed or if you have $$$ you can get a hybrid or electric full size truck.
Smiles per gallon not miles per gallon. Also follow the engine break in procedure (so you get higher volumetric efficiency), use high quality synthetic oil, and run it on 89 I get 25mpg in my 2019 4.0.
Lol in 1995 i had ammo can 6x9s on 20 foot leads... Made for great drive in movie movies
Hope see the towing video soon.
Where is the roof rack?
Can you get cloth with a sunroof or is all in a package together? I want the sunroof with cloth for the orange accents
I'm with you on the cloth interior on the pro4x , it looks nicer and will stay cooler 👍
You can get either in the pro4x. I believe the leather is the luxury up package. I myself would prefer the cloth depending how the leather is.
I know the Pro has a little more clearance than the regular off-road and with it's TRD control arms allows for more articulation when rock crawling
It’s mostly shocks. The TRD pro has fancy Fox shocks, whereas the TRD off road has bilsteins similar to the ones the Pro-4x has. Other than that, they are very similarly equipped.
Also TRD pro has a front and rear locker
I enjoy your videos . I watch almost every one that you make. I take your advise before making a vehicle purchase.
my ford dealer only gets trucks in that have been factory ordered right now, they occasionally have a Ranger that comes in that lasts a day or two before its sold. superduties are the same.
So can i get a pro 4x with a 6 foot bed?
I don’t believe so.
Based on the reviews I have seen online, the 6ft bed upgrade is only available on the SV trim. It would be awesome of it's an option for the Pro4x.
Why is it no one talks about this new engine is DI only which is proven to have carbon buildup issues?
Just use top tier fuel
@@zanelucas512 Doesn't work since it's not spraying gas on top side of valve where all the crankcase emissions are building up.....
@@johnboy3100 Install a catch can. That's what I did on my 2015 Silverado. Catch can works very well.
I watched a video of the Nissan Frontier corporate slideshow and it said that it has "available wi-fi with over the air updates". Hoping that means it can perform over the air software updates.
A brake controller in the truck wouldn’t help with a trailer that uses surge brakes, the brakes would be still constantly on going down hill.
Lava Red = Chevrolet Flame Red = Yeehaw!
Thank you for asking about the Xterra. I am holding on to my 2nd gen with the hopes of a refresh.
It does make sense they will release a higher trim level after the Frontier is in garages.
Good review & great Nissan.
is the prox going to come in a king cab?
Wait I'm confused so are all the colors the pro 4x are offered in are those colors options on the SV and S trims as well ?
Looking fwd to seeing it in person.
What do you think about the reliability about this brand?
The focus groups obviously did not include people who tow. Hence the missing brake controller
You made a point of thanking your Patreon supporters because you don't have monetisation.
Then why is this video being interrupted every few minutes by annoying ads?
This is a video of the audio-only podcast. The podcast alone does not have ads, but when they upload the audio and video to YT, you have kind of a standard video with the ads.
As Roman said at the start the Podcast is not monetized while YT will monetize videos.
TFL has no control over that. It's TH-cam that does that. I've been a paying subscriber of TH-cam since the TH-cam Red days, so I never see the ads (or commercials) that you and others do. As such, I didn't get a single interruption by any ads during this entire, one hour long webcast.
Will the ProX at least have an LSD?
It's a ZF 9 speed or a jatco 9 speed? Either way usually RWD tranmissions from Nissan are decent. It's their CVT that is poorly designed and made
Sebastian inlet i live about 30 minutes from there
Are the rear brakes solid or vented?
Who puts their truck is 4wd at the boat ramp?
i love this podacast.
How many channels do you guys have? 😂 I keep finding more and more in the recommended
Is adaptive cruise control standard?
A long bed PRO 4X would make more sense than a PRO-X. Who would want an off road looking truck that doesn’t have 4x4?
I think in one of the TFL videos they mentioned the PRO4X only comes in short bed like Tacoma PRO
Pro-4x: 4. wheels can spin.
Pro-X: only 1 wheel spins (no rear locker capability). Hence the name usage.
You can tell that Roman's product knowledge is really lacking for most vehicles. Andre is the man.
Andre should give him a slap
Roman is just so annoying. His shtick is just "WhY iSn'T iT a BeV yEt?¿"
@@imnotusingmyrealname4566 no joke he is the worst thing about TFL. Andre nathan and mr truck/the truck king guys are where it’s at!
Sometimes it seems like even tommy is embarrassed to call him dad.
You are so right
Small children and elderly parents that you chauffeur around for errands and doctor appointments.
Now that's a midsized truck that doesn't look as high as the chevy, Ford and Toyota offerings.
Bulletproof NA V6 with lower mpg over crap Turbo R4 with a bit higher mpg.
Diesel?
Nice truck!
Good looking truck
With $5 a gallon gas approaching rapidly, this gas guzzler will be in trouble when the new hybrid mid-sized trucks come out next year. I’m disappointed, as it checked nearly every box.
The X class was a Navarra.
I wanna test drive one so bad
I hate stop/start
TURNING CIRCLE?
Is ass
Right? The turning radius of the previous generation was shockingly bad!
It's sad they removed the rails in the bottom of the bed. They were the most usefull one when I had my Frontier.
Agree 100%. Need to tie things down, not tie things up.
You can add better ones
Agreed. And roof rails!!!!
It's nice that you can select a 6' foot bed for the Nissan!🙌
Tacomas offer that on the Double Cab too just not the PRO. All Access Cabs (extra cab) have the 6 foot bed only
are those actually rock rails, bolted to the frame?
Who knows how reliable it will be -- I don't really trust Renault or their qualify control.
