I left this comment on part 1 too, but I want to share a huge win that I haven't heard anyone else point out: When Kylo is confronting the First Order leadership about the traitor in their midst, Hux knows that Kylo can read his thoughts, so rather than trying to conceal himself he thinks "KYLO REN'S NEW HELMET LOOKS DUMB" because he knows Kylo is vain enough to notice and change the subject while thinking he has won and is in control. Brilliant manipulation of a more powerful superior in a tough spot.

@@cginsane22 no kylo is a name, so is ben, darth is a title, and its a very, very, very limited one at that considering darth maul stops being darth after his "death"/betrayal/rewhatevering by the night-witch-mother.... the non force side of magic in the lore is super confusing, and the force is too, but the actual magic is what even, anyway my point is that he's not darth even though he's still a very very very dark, and powerful, force user

    • @SeviathTheHumanDrago
      @SeviathTheHumanDrago 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

@@discipleoftzeentch8384 Personally I feel like Kylo might not be a name, but maybe a title like Darth but lesser. Ren obviously is a title, Knights of Ren. In the comics it's explained that before Kylo joined the group, the group was led by a force sensitive who could feel and follow the "Ren" (dark side). The first leader of the group was just named Ren, as in The Ren, he most likely originated the name, group ect. And obviously the group and snoke aren't sith, snoke is far more calm headed, not as punishing (from what we've seen), never quoted the Sith code. I don't find it unreasonable to think that Kylo Ren is just title title unlike the sith who still have names after their title, the Knights of Ren only use titles.

Koby Pourciaux I still think these movies as movies are great and amazing films but it’s whether they fit the lore and expectations of Star Wars in general and did they hit the mark and whilst there are some og trilogy dickheads think nothing will ever be the same the notion that evryone or the majority of ppl are negative about everything new Star Wars it’s not true the mandalorian something new in the franchise has been massively received well it’s already super popular and follows the Star Wars theme very well the same goes for the 7 season of clone wars Dave felonis just produced the ahsoka arc is breathtaking I was close to tears and just enjoyed every last minute of it it’s all about getting ppl who understand the world of Star Wars to direct and produce it Dave feloni for me nd this is if he would want too should run these movies and direct them he has such a parallel knowledge and vision for the Star Wars franchise as George Lucas that when he made the clone wars and gets involved with a lot of discussion nd ideas for the mandalorian I’m not surprised he gets what Star Wars is and how it works and incorporates his knowledge of Star Wars nd what it’s meant to be into new creative and interesting story arcs they need to sign this guy up for everything he’s great

Spenser Comments like these prove my point. Whenever people say things such as “You can’t defend movies that are objectively bad”, it just shows all the more reason we need people like him. Like it or not, there are people out there who like these movies and it’s only fair if people acknowledge some of the good things in them. And if u think I’m just a shill and I’ll just accept anything Star Wars related, let me just tell u that I don’t even like the Last Jedi and I think the force awakens and the rise of skywalker are decently fun and nothing more. The difference is that I don’t make a living by critiquing every little thing in these movies and pretend like they’re the worst movies ever made and that the prequels are secretly masterpieces.

I like what you said about the sequel trilogy eventually just being Star Wars to people, like the sequel trilogy is. It’s totally true!
I’m young enough that I’ve always just seen the prequel trilogy as part of Star Wars. My parents continue to be critical of those movies, at least to some degree, but I don’t have any problems with them, and I never really did. I remember watching them when I was small, I remember enjoying them, and that’s all that really matters to me about them.
I have to admit that so far the criticism of the sequel trilogy has gotten to me a bit, so the negativity has rubbed off on me. Thanks for reminding me that I don’t have to have a problem with movies that other people may, I think it’ll help me let go of trying to scrutinize and see the bad in things and instead just enjoy the movies because I want to enjoy them.

    • @DaleESkywalker
      @DaleESkywalker 4 ปีที่แล้ว +25

The Prequels _were_ *apparently* _garbage_ I guess? I'm 50 years old and I've always looked at Star Wars movies as the "important part" of the story. People can claim they're garbage all day long but as long as you realize it's only part of the story and some of it is left to your imagination until the story between is told in other media, you can love Star Wars.
      _
A movie is never going to be as fleshed out as a novel. Writers get things in their heads all the time and then forget to put them in the story, perhaps thinking that they'd already added it or that it's too revealing for another part so they're trying to figure out a way to get past the part and reveal it later. I've done it myself. A lot. In proofreading it, you don't always catch it. A proofreader will never catch it unless they are paying really close attention *and* know your intent.
      _
Yes, there were a lot of parts in the PT I didn't really have a problem with, but others did. I filled in the gaps, much like *The Clone Wars* did for the PT. I've always imagined there is more to the story we might not be told and it's really evident in the ST. Again, I've filled in the gaps and we're already learning more than I thought of as to why things are the way they are in the ST. The possibilities are endless and I've never considered my resolutions as finite...and you don't need to read the novelization to understand the movie, which is why everyone has a different aspect of Star Wars.
      _
In short, I've found something to love about every Star Wars movie. They're like your own children - they'll never turn out as you expect. You can see them all differently and love each one in a different way. When you start looking for the good in others, you'll often find the good in yourself. What you see in your world - your reality is a reflection of your focus and what you create within it.

I think you did come off as a hater, so if you want to **discuss** how Star Wars - any part of Star Wars is not fit for Star Wars; is worthless corporate cheap garbage, as you put it - let's start on the right foot.
Give me five reasons, about the movie - not necessarily the creators or actors, why the story doesn't fit?
I'll give my point of view on those five things and if you can't consider the possibilities, we can let it go as "your narrative doesn't fit their narrative". Whether you think you could've done better, or seen something you think is better is irrelevant in this scenario based on the fact that the same "mistakes" were made before Star Wars became a corporation thing.
People loved it (the PT) and people hated it. You're free to do either, but don't come pissing on someone else's parade and calling it rain.

    • @Doctor_Straing_Strange
      @Doctor_Straing_Strange 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Dale Erdmann alright, here it goes:
      1. They revived Palpatine who we thought was dead. The guy exploded twice in the death star however he is alive here. The movie didn't provide ANY explanation as to how he survived. We can assume it's cloning (secrets only the sith knew, despite the people in this universe knowing about the CLONE wars. But people in this universe also thought that the Jedi were a myth, for some reason, so it's understandable, but really dumb). The Palpatine that we see in the movie might be a clone, this is reinforced by the movie showing us clones of SNOKE. Apparently he can clone Snoke more than once, but he.... doesn't. Why? Anyway if Palpatine is indeed a clone, how did he have force powers? In the SW universe clones aren't force sensitive. Was the Palpatine in episode six a clone? Who knows, it's never explained. Palpatine also looks like shit, so why did he clone himself to look do bad? Maybe he isn't a clone, maybe he is the same Palpatine that got blown up. But how did he survive? Again, never explained. However the major problem with this is that it reduces the stakes. How am I supposed to care about what happens in the movie if I don't know how Palpatine must be killed. Couldbnt he have survived? Palpatine said "I have died before", couldn't he survive... again? How do we know he is dead? Maybe that's the point, but how am I supposed to care about the protagonists and the story in general when it seems like killing that son of a bitch is impossible? The way to fix it would have been explaining that Palpatine on the death star was not the real one, and that the real one was chilling since the beginning in exagol, and that once you killed the real one, the clones couldn't be made or something. This doesn't fix the fact that Anakin is no longer the chosen one but who cares at this point? The Sequel trilogy already shat on the OT by existing. Evil was supposed to be vanquished at last. Disney could have made a Prequel Prequel trilogy, but nostalgia is a part of their current movies. Remakes everywhere!
      2. Rey turning to the dark side isn't believable. She apparently is so powerful that she can fart lightning out if her hands BY ACCIDENT. What the fuck. The force is completely inconsistent now, how can you control one of the hardest force powers by ACCIDENT. Well, let's get on with my point: what the movie was going for was showing us how she is turning to the dark side by showing us that she uses dark side powers by accident when she is overly emotional, that is fine, except the lightning was too much but we'll take it. The premise isn't that bad, what IS bad, is that they try to convince us that she will be tempted by the dark side and join Palpatine at the end, only to overcome the desire and the darkness in her and stick to the light. Similar to Luke in ROTJ. The problem is that Rey shouldn't be tempted by Palpatine's offer, think about it: the first time she used a dark side power she killed chewie (or thought she did) that would be enough to turn anyone off. Who would want the dark side after such a horrible experience with it? It's laughable. What they should have done is establish that she isn't powerful enough early on. There is a boulder in the forets at the beginning where she trains that is so massive that she can't lift it. Then, after a first encounter with Kylo, she is beaten BADLY. And when she is on the ground, almost dead, she taps into the dark side and uses it to defeat him easily. Bow that's a GOOD experience with the dark side, that might turn her on. Later, Finn confronts her and says that he had never seen her using that power, and that he thinks it might be bad. But she tells him that he is jealous of her power, thus separating them, bow we know the dark side is bad. She has a couple more experiences with the dark side along their journey and she loves it, but she sees the damaging effects on her friendship with the others. Then when she is confronted by Palpatine we can believe she WILL join him. Tension has been restored.
      3. The plot is a Bantha chase. There are many plotholes and conviniences in this plot: they have to find a knife of the assassin of Rey's parents, that the stupid ass assassin carved a map on. How stupid must you be to carve a map on your preferred weapon? Anyway, this map leads to the wreckage of the death star. First off: what? It isn't completely blown up, disintegrated? Wtf. Okay, it's not COMPLETELY stupid, but if you watch closely there is still glass on the windows of the throne room. HOW? Anyway, C3PO cannot red the knife aloud. What? Why give him the ability to understand the sith language but not read it aloud? Is the sith language like the n-word or something? Couldn't he point to a map of the galaxy to tell them where they have to go? The problem with this convoluted shit is that it raises questions, and if you don't address them it worsens the overall quality of your movie. That's why simple plots are generally easier to write and they have more chances of being good. The knife says they have to stand on certain shore on the planet where the death star is. The shore is MASSIVE, how did they have the luck of finding the exact spot where the knife matches with the death star? It's ridiculously contrived. Then they stick out a little thing to point where the wayfinder to exagol is. How, or why did they carve the silhouette of the death star on a knife, when the death star is in the water? We see the sea is very agitated too, so the structure must have moved A LOT since it first arrived. Why hide anything there? Or why make a knife based on its silhouette is bound to change by the force of the waves in the sea? It's incredibly lucky that it didn't move. But it shows incompetence from Plpatine and the assassin he hired. Is this supposed to be the same Plpatine that manipulated the Senate of the Republic for years, even fooling the jedi with his masterful plan to take over silently and seamlessly? This guy doesn't even have half the brains Palpatine had. Inconsistent characterisation is what I call it. Rey doesn't find the wayfinder there, Kylo got there first. What? What? Where was he? How did he know wher to find it? Did Palpatine tell him? Pnce again we sacrifice the audience's knowledge of the situation, and tension, to have a surprise! Cool. He destroys it so Rey has to join him to go to exagol. Wait? Wasn't he ordered to kill her? This will be important later ;) Where was I? Oh yes, when he destroys the wayfinder she starts trying to.... kill..... him? At last! Rey has a flaw! I didn't think they could but she has a flaw! She is stupid! Amazing! But too late, unfortunately, her flaw doesn't even factor into the story and she doesn't even grow out of it. There is a looooong, boring fight scene between the two. This is subjective, of course, so maybe YOU didn't find it boring. I'm just highlighting my experience here.
In what I just described there are conviniences that I didn't even mention, like Lando appearing out of nowhere, and them falling right through the quick-sand where they needed to go, or Kylo surviving his ship crashing in the desert. But this is already long enough, so let's skip to the end. Palpatine seems to be pleased that she is there, didn't he order Kylo to kill her?(I told you it was important;)) Maybe he knew somehow that he wouldn't do it? And then there is the convenient fact that Lando recruits hundreds of people to fight for them. What? How? Did they all get a wayfinder? And how did they navigate through the red space cancer to get to exagol? Talking about space cancer, why can't they go AROUND the space cancer to get to exagol? Why must they go through it? But whatever man, this movie is already stupid. Palpatine tells her to strike him down so he can possess her? And she does strike him down?? And he doesn't posses her??? Who wrote this? The guy who wrote BvS. Now it all makes sense. I'm not gonna insult him because he didn't insult me, and I have nothing against him, but his work is not very good, and this movie is his worst script to date.
      4. Almost there, just hang on a little. No character growth, no arcs. No nothing. Kylo turns to the light becoming once again Ben Solo, by being saved by Rey. Is that enough to convert him? I wouldn't think so. But ok, he then has a vision with Han, Han says that he forgives him? Hello? Isn't this a vision? He says it's a memory, so he is forgiving.... himself? What a prick. This means nothing, Adam Driver almost sells it with his incredible performance but that's not enough, he FORGAVE HIMSELF, I feel nothing for this character man. He is the most inconsistent character, he is unpredictable, and how sad is it that his last line of dialogue is "Ow!"? Boyega is also a good actor, but he is a buffoon in these movies, his story could have been more interesting but he is there just to say "REEEEEEEEEEEEEEYYY!" It's sad to waste such a good actor. And Disney has the audacity of calling him their hero after what happened to George Floyd. They even shrunk him in the poster for China, and they had full control over that, don't tell me that they hadn't. It's Disney who decides the poster. But they thought that no one would care. Guess what? I care, "I see through the lies of the Disney" "DoctorStraing Strange, the Sequel haters are evil!" "From my point of view the sequels are evil".
Anyway, I was saying that they don't have a character arc, no one has. It's sad. If you have a counter argument please share it. I'd love to know who had a character arc.
      5. Babu Frick is the best character. The others are so boring.

The only thing I really don’t like about the sequels is that they decided to start in one directions, completely flip it around, get scared, and use the 3rd to flip it all around again. That means the entire trilogy was kind of pointless to me because they don’t actually make one full story, more of just an argument from 2 sides.

The "do-over" of the Kylo/Han/Ben scene was probably my favorite one in this film. Taking nearly the same dialogue and using it a different way is not a new trick, but it was very impactful as well as the "I know" line as Ben tries to choke out "I love you" I know everyone who's not "Reylo" fan thought that the kiss came out of nowhere, but I did not. The elevator scene and the throne room scene especially in TLJ it is pretty obvious that Rey wants Ben, NOT Kylo, Ben. So her kissing him at the end? He just brought her back from the dead, of course she should kiss him.

Second in the last jedi there may have been chemistry but that was lost the moment he said join me and rule.
Thirdly in the last jedi the fight in the throne room is not a sign of love but it did show kilos humanity.
Finally the kiss and heal did come out of nowhere heres why. Kylo has murdered reys friends. You think she would forgive him?!? Let alone be in love with him. Not only did he murder one of the few people to treat rey kindly han. But he also murdered luke. So I'm sorry but no way is she gonna kiss a guy who has done this to her no way. Kylo was redeemed by the love of Han, Luke, and Leia more than by Rey.
And their love for each other makes sense. For starters, Kylo never wanted to kill her, always admired her, and sensed his destiny was tied with hers (so all's fine on his end). And while Rey did try to kill him, she sees him as the legacy of the old heroes, and her love for them motivates her to want to turn him back. And they had 7 scenes together, most of which were in intimate one-on-one settings where they were dealing with and sensing each other's inner emotions BEFORE Rey decided that he was redeemable and tried to do it. And that's all before RoS.
Luke wanted to redeem Vader having talked to him ONCE before, and it was while they were fighting!
Neither are bad or unrealistic pictures of love springing up from animosity. It shows that love is stranger and more powerful than hate, and I think the fact that it could grow between previous enemies is a beautiful message, and one that has been at the heart of Star Wars since the originals.

    • @jasonsabbath6996

The love that redeemed Ben was the love of his parents, not Rey. And he sacrificed himself for Rey because he loved HER. Now you can argue the merits of that love, but there is no doubt he had feelings for her. How deep those feelings were and if it was "true love" or not, is up for conjecture, but his parents love is what saved him and only the most cynical would deny that.

It nearly gets him killed in his Academy days, there's a Q episode all about it.

So, yeah, I would call myself a fan.

I loved your line about how this is the most Star Warsy Star Wars that has ever Star Warsed. It really captures my feelings about things. Some of the best Star Wars out there in my opinion "breaks" far more than anything in the sequel Trilogy. The EU has some truly ridiculous stuff that makes the sequels seem grounded and nearly hard sci fi, and a huge swath of the community loves it.
(Spoilers for KotoR and KotoR 2 in this paragraph) Knights of the Old Republic is a prime example of something that's an amazing Star Wars game that's critically acclaimed, but it has Force healing, bonds between two Force users, deus ex machina battle meditation that's one of the most powerful Force abilities ever seen, etc. KotoR 2 has some of the most interesting characters, especially with regard to a grey Jedi some philosophy, and that game involves a literal wound in the Force as a huge plot point. I can't imagine much that could break a fantasy world more than being able to harm or destroy the setting's phlebotinum.
It's sad to see people who have lost the ability to love and enjoy things despite the flaws. (Sadder if they never had it.) It's also sad how overwhelmingly people jump on negativity. People shouldn't have to qualify praise for a thing with "it's not perfect" or "it's no masterpiece." People love things that aren't perfect because nothing is perfect. Everything has flaws.
I hope culture shifts back towards a greater ability to simply enjoy things for what they are. This channel is amazing, and it gives me hope for a more positive future.

Otherwise, I feel like power creep is simply INEVITABLE in a franchise like this. The only way the Force wouldn't become "broken" is if there had never been any other movies besides the og Star Wars. I think, in terms of EU Legends and EU canon, canon's got the higher ground, because there are little materials that doesn't make sense or had some bad writings compared to hundreds of Legends' EU. When you watch RoTJ after The sequels, you have this sense of pity to Anakin, knowing that Anakin's prophecy was completely wasted and all for nothing. The chosen one bringing balance to the force? Did it change what happened to me yesterday? No. But it did make me relax and heal, forget reality for a while and let go of my sadness. That's what these movies, all of these movies, do for me. Not Gonna Lie, My favorite Star Wars movie is “The Last Jedi”, for many reasons. One of them being Luke’s ark, even though it was...confusing at first. But the more I watched the movie I realized that Luke was sad, Depressed! Because instead of making Ben, he ended up creating Kylo Ren. And not only that, but Kylo ended up killing all of the other students, and eventually join the first order as Snokes apprentice. So, he went into hiding, and when Rey went to ask for Lukes help...he was scared because he knew what Ben had become and didn’t want anything to do with him. But after Luke realized that she was force sensitive, he decided that he should train her and allow her to go and not him...but then he realized what power she really had, and he was scared again and gave up. But after his fight with Rey when he saw Kylo and Rey connecting Through the Force..he had finally decided it was time for the Jedi to die and for him to stay in excile for the rest of his miserable and sad life. But then Yoda’s force Ghost appeared and asked what Luke was doing, and when Luke said he was going to destroy the Texts..he let him. But Luke had a change in heart and no longer wanted to burn the texts..but Yoda used the force to destroy the Texts and Luke was shocked. He was confused on why he would destroy the Texts but he soon understood why, because it was only a book that told you all the force powers that exist...and that’s it. He never really needed the books, all he really needed was the force and to believe in himself. After his confrontation with Yoda, he had finally decided try o help the Resistance and Rey, so he used the force to project himself to Crait to distract Ren and the First Order so the Resistance could escape. But when Luke was “Fighting” Kylo he tried his best to turn Kylo back to the Light Side but he soon realized that he was to far gone. So, he let Ren “kill” him only for Ren to realize he was a Force Projection and that the Resistance was escaping while he was trying to fight his past. But, after Luke had projected himself there and stopped, he was to weak and faded into the force to join Kenobi, Yoda, and the rest of the Fallen Jedi Before him...This is one of the many reasons I Love “The Last Jedi”.

I believe in something of an inverse: It is "yours", in the sense that your personal experience with Star Wars is yours alone to explore. And like Lucasfilm's Matt Martin, who recently talked about franchise canon and how it can be whatever you want it to be, your experience is your personal canon for the franchise. If you want to toss out the Prequel and Sequel Trilogies but keep Clone Wars and Mandalorian, so be it. Hell, if you want to toss out everything but ANH, so be it. You can make it whatever you want it to be because while you don't own the story, you own your experience with it. (Hell, someone might consider the Sequel Trilogy as the only canon they need at some point in the future.) Point is, whatever you liked or disliked about Star Wars is nobody's business but your own, and you can make your own personal canon for the franchise out of whatever you want - and if it makes you happy, that's what matters the most. :)

Ninja Lion I'm tired of people making this stupid argument. It was explained in the movie why Luke was a good pilot, that's why he blew up the death star, plus he had the force with him that he had learnt to control a little bit. Three years later, THREE YEARS, in Empire strikes back, we see that Luke has been practicing with the force and now he can lift objects from the ground like his saber with a GREAT amount of effort. He gets beat up by the Big foot on Hoth and he lifts his lightsaber and barely escapes.
Rey on the other hand, could beat Kylo Ren, a trained assassin, on her first try. She then, in the second movie, lifts what looks like 50-100 rocks with no effort whatsoever, it looks like she is even surprised that she can do it. Luke in Empire fails constantly in his training with Yoda and he then gets beat up by Vader and he gets his hand cut off. He FAILS constantly. That's what makes Vader such a formidable opponent, and Luke such an underdog, that's why in Return of the Jedi, when Luke redeems Vader, it is super rewarding. Rey, on her third movie, she beats mother fucking Palpatine. And the ending makes no sense, it's just a copy of return of the jedi, but worse.
In ROTJ, the Emperor wants Luke to kill him do he turns to the dark side, he refuses, and so Vader is the one who kills the emperor, redeemed by Luke. It's a great scene. In ROS, Palpatine tells Rey to kill him, so he can possess her, she does, and he doesn't posses her? Wtf. Anyway, that's not my point. My point is that merely two days after discovering that the force was real, Rey lifted 50 rocks with no effort, after three years, Luke could lift a lightsaber, with much effort.
See the difference? She is a Mary Sue, and it's a shame because her character introduction in TFA was spectacular, but they made her boring.

    Ok so:
Here's the thing: Luke as the badass leader in the EU will always be there. Kyle Katarn learned from him. Mara Jade switched sides and married him. Done.
In the other continuity that we had, Rey learned from him. Also, Rey learned from Leia. We didn't get to see Duel of the Fates, unfortunately. But it's still Star Wars. Jedi, Sith, ships, quips, lightsabers, droids, etc.
Just enjoy it as it is, and if you didn't like ep IX, act like it's an alternate timeline and the canon is the Legends stuff. Done.
No one needs to be stomped on, your love for this universe doesn't have to die.
Enjoy this as it is, and if you wanna see Luke build a Jedi temple in Yavin just go play Jedi Knight/Jedi Academy/Jedi Outcast. Read the classic comics. Write your own book about it, whatever. Star Wars is a fantasy. Even Lucas didn't know exactly what A New Hope was going to be until the finished product, and he still thought that things needed tweaking. He still changed stuff around until he literally couldn't anymore.
Star Wars is our fantasy. It belongs to all of us. We all can build a makeshift saber or buy one. We all can play the games and fiddle with the force. We all can watch the movies and cheer and cry. We all can hum the soundtrack. We all can try to use the force to get the controller that's three feet (one meter) away from us. This is a movie. Enjoy it.
And in the case you still can't enjoy this, go to the things you enjoy in this universe. Play Jedi: Fallen Order, push stormtroopers into chasms. Play Force Unleashed, shove Star Destroyers unto the ground. Read the comics, watch the old movies.
Don't let the hate flow through you. That leads to a path that only brings you more pain and suffering.

I want something different for this new era. And even though the sequels are really similar to the OT in a lot of ways, those are still my favorite star wars movies, particularly The Last Jedi.
I'm a fan of both timelines, they both have good and bad. For every KOTOR II, there's a crystal star. For every Thrawn book, there's a TOR: Revan. For every Last Jedi, there's a star wars rebels. Okay, it's not exactly that dynamic, there's definitely more good than bad. But both are equally and validly Star Wars.

Bro! You’re the first person I’ve seen make that point about Vader’s sacrifice not being ruined. I always thought that from the first time someone brought it up. The significance wasn’t about KILLING the emperor, it was about SAVING Luke...you know, because saving someone out of love is something a Jedi would do, not a Sith

Oftentimes I question whether or not the chosen one prophecy should’ve been a thing in the first place, especially after Rose’s most infamous line. I don’t think his arc should be about some “the chosen one kills the bad guy” cliche. It should be about his lifelong internal and external struggles and ultimately redeeming himself by saving who he loves.

Preach bro, plus the force was brought to balance through anakin skywalker because he chose Rey to help him end palpatine. And palpatine did say he died before. Not only that this further solidified anakins legacy because Ben solo didn’t finish what Vader started, he finished what anakin started, he saved the one he loved from dying.

It's certainly better than last jedi. that one felt like an attack on the fandom. this one... misses the mark on things but, I can feel that it was trying to be a star wars movie. it's not horrible and I certainly walked out of theatre feeling better than last jedi. for what's worth I think that means something.
I just wish there was a consistent vision across the trilogy. it would help direct focus and criticisms.

I know you said that Luke just wouldn't appear on Exegol to beat the Emperors ass because it wouldn't make sense in movie terms, but here's what I thought for an in-universe explanation.
We know that the light side of the Force or Force in general has a strong influence on Ahch-To allowing Force ghosts do some cool stuff, interact with their surroundings more etc. but then Exegol has more of a concentration on the dark side which then leads to the Force ghosts have a much more limited capabilities.
