Very relevant comments about having updated maps! Where I live in Kent I find that many areas I walk on the edges of town and villages have become housing estates. I imagine (but don't know) that the footpaths remain.
Fortunately much of our lovely countryside remains intact - well for now.
The problem with updates is the paper OS maps with plastic covers cost £18.99. And looking at these yesterday, I saw that they didn't have new housing developments in the last year or two.
But the OS maps are wonderful and a delight to 'read'.

They definitely aren't cheap. I did some consulting for OS a couple of years ago (I.T rather than map related) and they had a staff sale. £1 per map or £2 for the laminated ones. I picked up quite a few but they aging now.
Last couple of years I moved to is maps online. That's. A great option if anybody asks you what you want for Christmas. Under £30 for the whole UK and you can print them off as you need them.

@@dogdadoutdoors Yes, I have the option to buy the phone OS for £3/ month sub. I usually carry the paper version as well in case my phone fails

Excellent info. 🙂 All our ordnance survey maps are in inches and miles and at 66 I find it hard to get my head around centemeters! Love maps though. You can learn so much about the local area just by studying one.

That you can. I've found a little parcel of land not far from me, it is public access land, but it is completely cut off on 3 sides by private land and a road on the other. I went to explore and it was like nobody had ever been there, completely undisturbed.
