Never used any of Alpines subwoofers but have run a alpine head unit since first one I bought back in mid 90s....I tend to keep an older vehicle to tinker with ....drive a 1998 s10 extended cab ....and when I started the system build last year took the old alpine cd player out and replaced it with the newest model single din (at the time) with cd Bluetooth multi media etc.....and as always works flawlessly and most of all the clarity especially at higher volumes...I don't use any of the head unit to power speakers ...use amplifiers for that but the pre amps are in my opinion some of the best on the market ....good clear dependable signal.....and the only reason I don't use their subs is because I am an old school bass head at heart ...but I am sure I would be pleased if I did ....solid company
The pair of Alpine Type R 12" I bought in 1998 are still putting out the bass. I did have to re-glue the buytl rubber surrounds in 2014. I used shoe goo as adhesive. I went through many subs, until I bought the pair of type R. My Alpine head unit, the Alpine CDA-7995 still works great too. Alpine is the best or they were 20 years ago.
Alpine desperately needs to step it up with the subs and amps. The overly expensive SQ thing is cool and all. But, you guys need to get popular with the high power crowd. You should definitely be trying to compete against Kicker and the new Solo X sub as well.

I took it too a local bass competition and got a 146 dB running on 2 ct sounds 2k amps I was impressing everyone with "4k watts" ct sounds amps at 15v push almost 3k watts each and the sound quality of the type r subs.... geez there musical subs they play hard, my set up was set too 32hz... sold the truck because I needed a crew cab for my kids and there seats but I still have 2 8inch subs in a custom ported box under the seat... people think I got 12s it hits that hard! They think I don't have a back seat but it's all under the seat!
Ive had 3 type r subs. All dual 4 ohm. One 12 was stolen. And a grand worth of glass busted out to get it outta the car. Replaced with the same model. Since then ive used it in 4 diff vehicles. Actually got it to fit in a 99 single cab f150. This and the previous one that got stolen are the older 10+ year old version with the grey dustcap. Pissed me off as i tuned it right and had no distortion. After less than a month of impressive clear deep bass there was a flapping sound when i used it. The glue holding the dust cap onto the surround separated. And from the looks of it, it wasnt glued down all the way around. Theres big gaps all every inch or so. Tried to get it warrantied and was told i would have to pay for rma and repairs as "theres no way it would separate there unless i had the gain turned too high.
