Lars has talent...he Wrote with almost no drum lessons the best metal Albums.... now imagine he had more lessons....
His off time drumming is about as good as it gets and help develop that certain sound the band is know for.
He and Kirk had lessons up till Ride the Lighting.

It isn't simple per see.. if you see it in the eyes of drum-shredders, yes he is not that. But ppl forget that he isn't that, thank god for Hetfield as the guitars will always be the frontman in Metallica.I think lars fits perfectly in with that, as he has said before.

@@oneinfinity I wouldn't say over playing, just sloppy, the guys in his mid 50s. Playing drums for almost 40 years kinda burns you out lol, back in the 80s up until the late 90s he was tight, simple and had pretty damn good timing, this can really be said about all of them, if you notice James alternate picks parts of songs that should have downpicking, he can still downpick like hell but his age is showing, Kirk isn't as lightning fast or as on time with his solos anymore, he still plays well, but once again he's showing his age.
@@captaincumrag42069 Nope, lars definitely overplays live. He changes up the original drum fills with much simpler ones, he plays those fills for too long, and he plays them at the wrong times. I guess 'wrong' is subjective, but it does take away from the other instruments when he does fills like that. His fills are pretty random, yet predictable.

I know Lars doesn’t give a shit what everyone thinks about his drumming today. I don’t give a shit either. Did you really think Lars was going to sound the same on the And Justice For All Album? He’s over fifty years old today. He’s been playing metal since 81. Lars has played more shows then most metal drummers combined today. And he is still touring. If it wasn’t for Lars, Metallica would not have existed. Period!! Give the man the respect he is due!

lars is a great drummer, he is not gonna be the same as before. he is over 50 years old now, and he still performs good, he is even touring the world world to perform (well not the whole world, europe i think) but lets just hope that he will do good on the next performances.

Yes he did... several songs on kill em all....disposable heroes on this album, he also used it on the load album on the song bleeding me.
He might not have used it because he had so many toms so it was hard to reach.

Master of Blast Beats?
Does anyone have any recommendations on how I could get better at drumming? I practice everyday and I feel like I’m not getting very much better
Broaden your "practice" a little......Learn to analyze songs, maybe 5 per band. Start with older bands to get context of the sounds and ideas from an era ie 80's thrash or 90's grunge etc. write down the "stucture" of each song in a way you can follow at a glance on paper ie intro/verse/chours/solo. write out the lyrics and try to understand why the song is the way it is. Be a good Musician- you will get actuall gigs and go further with less effot. Leave the vaslueless try-hards to buy expensive gear they cant use and sit here bagging on Lars Ulrich with zero understanding of why this is such an amazing track.
The first step is recognizing it. The truth is you probably are getting better but you just aren't noticing it yet. Practice your rudiments, then practice striking technique and then once you have that down try playing to your favorite songs but try replicating the drum patterns and modifying them to your own taste. Then try your on take on a cover. Then Try a song of a similar style and see if you can come up with something of your own. Keep in mind these are big goals and you might have to break them down but by all means don't worry this is natural when working on improving anything.
You should try playing better, ppl say that you sound good if you play good.
