oh my bad for the late reply! There's a mechanic called Spell Canceling that actually allows you to cancel an arte into a Base Spell. And then like Manual Canceling, you'll want to hit guard to end it asap so you can perform actions like normal. Sometimes it's needed, sometimes manual canceling is all you need. But you can tell when I do a spell cancel if you see a spellcasting circle around Patty for a brief sec!
Critical mode paired with manual cancel almost functions as an overlimit.
