    Four tops in a day 😮 I could cry, it takes me all day to make one! I’ve only just started making garments, so hopefully one day if I keep sewing regularly, I will sew a lot quicker. You make the most beautiful clothes. 🌺

    • @Lisamakes
      @Lisamakes  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely, the more you see, the quicker you get. Just keep sewing!

      Thank you for the encouragement. It will definitely do that. I felt so accomplished when I made my first top the other day. I can only get better. 🙂

    Oh the Marlo Thomas dress and cape I made for my 10 year reunion in 1977. It was in a pink polyester jersey. It was so comfortable! I still have the pattern 😃

    I am absolutely in LOVE with leaving the selvedge as the finished edge. I have never seen that before, but it is now officially my favorite thing ever!

    • @Lisamakes
      @Lisamakes  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve done it a few times now, and I love it! I’ve washed and dried them, and it doesn’t seem to make a difference. They’re so pretty, it seems a shame to cut it off.

    I love seeing your finishes and hearing your excitement for sewing garments! I used to make almost all my clothes, then life got busy and I switched to quilting....your videos make me want to get back into garment sewing! Thanks for all your great videos! Leesa in Oregon!

    Great inspiration 😍 it does concern me when people show vintage patterns and I remember them when they were current 🤪

      I’m from England, and I’m not sure if our big 4/5 patterns were the same in that “vintage/my younger days”, but I’m obviously a similar age, as I remember the shapes of the pattern haul as those I made during my teens!

    I live in Japan and had no idea about the popularity of Japanese fabrics in the West. I have purchased Nami Iro fabric: one piece was hand painted linen for a shift dress that I made from 1.5 meters (yikes。$$$$). The other piece was 1/2 meter of cotton sateen in a gorgeous blue and white. I have been trying to get a top out of it but because the selvage is so wide (and left white) I have yet to figure one out! Thanks so much for the tips and showing your Nami Iro top. Lovely!

      Oh, that shift dress sounds amazing!! I keep every little scrap of Nani Iro- it’s so precious!

    Loved seeing your tops. It's so satisfying to get into a sewing groove and come out with some great new clothes to wear. Also loved the trip down memory lane with the vintage patterns. I still have the Butterick Classics (6799?) that I bought new. It is a great pattern with lots of options. I also used a hack of Simplicity 7117 to make my wedding dress 48 years ago.

    Love Victoria! We were there this time last year. Lovely makes Lisa. I didn't realise Victoria had good sewing shops.... maybe it's a good job I didn't, hubby wouldn't have been impressed... taking fabric and patterns all the way back to the North West of England. Lol 😂😘😊

    Brilliant tops. I love them all. The pattern with the empire bodice takes me back as I wore those in late 60's...my Mum was a seamstress/tailoress and whipped those up in no time, then insisted, do them yourself, you can see! Usually I called on her at the last minute.... on a Friday, em could you do this for me as I've decided I'm going to the School Disco.... then she got wise to me..... you will look amazing in it. It also makes a very chic long dress.... oh, she didn't use patterns, a picture did the job...

    • @Lisamakes
      @Lisamakes  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lucky you that you had your mum to do that for you! My kids are already asking me to sewing things up for school- Audrey can mostly sew for herself now, though. ;)

    the neckline of the 3rd top probably stretched out. its always a good idea to stay stich immediately you cut to prevent this, the same thing also applies to waistbands and seams.

    Love those tops. A bit jealous that you can go without a bra depending on what your wearing on a miserably hot day. I'm not large but everyone can tell when I'm braless, probably because at my age everything hangs a bit lower. I have to adjust the darts on a shirt I recently made because they sit way higher than I do.

    • @Lisamakes
      @Lisamakes  6 ปีที่แล้ว
