    I’m using a low-carb diet to fight cancer and reverse T2 Diabetes. I’ve recently was brave enough to purchase and consume one of these cans of sardines in olive oil from Season brand. I’ve searched others and purchased the Tiny Tots and King Oscar from Target online but you’re correct in that you can pick up a multi-pack for under $2 per can from Costco. I plan to dredge the Season sardines in a bit of CarbQuik (carbalose flour) before frying them in lard or tallow. The olive oil is okay but our cats really enjoyed it. I agree with your assessment “OK” tier.

    Matthew, I've watched a BUNCH of your vids in the last week. Very interesting.
    I was at Costco last week, and saw the sardines, and had decided I wanted to try some. I've been eating Kipper Snacks for 30 or 40 years, and I like them a lot, and thought I might like some sardines.
    An Asian lady was eyeing the sardines, and I asked her which were better (the two types were Season Sardines in Olive oil, which you _just_ reviewed), and Wild Planet Pacific Sardines in EVOO. I was tempted to buy the Wild Planet (full disclosure: I liked the way the packaging looked), but this lady told me those "taste funny," and the Season was a better choice-so I bought a six-pack, on sale for $6.99 (for the six).
    After watching this vid, and you giving Season in olive oil merely an "OK" rating, I'm going to have to try the Wild Planet Pacific Sardines in EVOO next time I'm at Costco.

    I just finished a tin of Season in Olive Oil - not a scale in sight. Then, I check the box and it says, "Skinless & Boneless". Bummer - I prefer with skin / bones.

    Season brand was bought out by a Moroccan conglomerate named Mutandis on 06/02/2021. Hence, the product quality has dropped tremendously. The old batches before the acquisition had a "easy peel" on the cans.
    Now, the current ones being sold are all relegated to the "easy pull" tab on the cans with lower quality deens!

    I buy the 6 Pack of Season brand certified wild caught Sardines in 100 % olive oil, skinless, boneless, and tail and headless A whopping 1700mg Omega 3 they are beautiful and tasty.I bought them today, my first time ever eating them, I will eat these over tuna. Got them at Costco. I Prepared them like I do tuna I use all the good oil and add a heaping tablespoon of Choosen mayonnaise and two tablespoons of fermented organic Sourkrout it tastes very much like my tuna salad. Way less mercury, way more omega 3. I eat a lot of beef so this will go a long way in balancing 3 @ 6

    I just had these exact dines...I wasn't impressed. Here they're $1.72. To me they were firm but not much more. Actually more and more I'm discovering that there really aren't that many types or brands or whatever you call em that I really like. Like I've mentioned before, I think the U.S. canned sardines of the 50's and 60's were the best ever. That cannery in Maine went out of business years ago. They were firm, packed in oil, and a flavor I haven't tasted in a long time.

    • @CannedFishFiles
      @CannedFishFiles  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I had my second can of these a couple days ago. The were so scaly. When I lifted it out of the can, there remained a shell of scales. I understand the scales are healthy, but I dislike having a texture issue before I even bite in. It's too bad we're way past the golden age of fish. It's going to take generations to restore our oceans if it ever happens.

    I'm sorry to say...but you need a FULL tier list that can be consulted and that should be updated as you try more stuff. A sardine list an anchovie list a general "canned fish" list etc. Because while I find your videos interesting I can't tell really which sardines are good besides what I saw you buy and maybe that encourages me to try them all? I will be trying some of the combos and ten can combos on Rainbow Tomatoes and I'll be sure to reference you in the future. Just saying what I'd love to see from you. I know you try tons of cans and likely you don't have a compiled list of things you've tried and really the videos are the catalog of your reviews...but again...I'd find it super useful.
