Having Byleth equipped to Pandreo kind of makes this worse. He may have memories from multiple timelines where he’s seen what became of his students and allies without him being there for him.

Nemesis being Claude's final boss with byleth ending with green hair Byleth ends with blue hair only in Edelgards ending Knowing that someone might cause a problem means he understands Dimitri's pain. So very possible Byleth has seen it all and maybe gameplay wise it's restricted but perhaps Byleth was endlessly reverting time to find an ending where all his students may live.

Xeno Bunet is S-tier in combat but only makes F grade dishes
Meanwhile normal Bunet is the best chef in the game while also being one of the worst units.
