The music of this film will forever be ingrained in my mind. Some twisted stuff.
The music itself is great, but the way it's carefully used to accentuate certain scenes and only pops up occasionally, is done perfectly.
The piece of music titled Love by Mica Levi is just the most perfectly named piece of music I've ever heard.
This may be a financial failure but it is a creative triumph. All time classic.

Ivana Sedlíková Art films make people uncomfortable because they don't give you all the answers. Under the Skin is wonderful for many reasons. The cinematography is beautiful. The score is perfect. Most of all Johansson gives a hypnotic and very brave performance.

Whilst the movie is still fresh in my head after seeing it last night, I've given it the thumbs up. I'll watch it again when I can because it is so insightful of our 21st century societies, the interesting scenery, and the highly capable actress.
This was MORE disturbing than the novel was. It kept me asking questions that I did not ask when I read the novel. I was not prepared for the end.

Yes, but if you rely too heavily on the other side then people then the essence that made arthouse films great won't be realize by the majority.

This is the worst movie I’ve seen in a long time. Also they abuse Scarlett’s body as a draw for the movie. The pacing is terribly slow and the big reveal is not very exciting. It’s a 1/10, please do not watch
Somebody missed the movie's point then. The nudity is not sexualised so how can it be the draw, the pacing is slow because it's not a thriller nor an action movie nor a theme park ride, and what big reveal? There are no reveals in the movie, just mysteries. Watch more movies outside of blockbusters, for your own sake. I'm not against those and I do enjoy them, but you're too used to the Hollywood formula that you can't appreciate anything that doesn't use it.

I'll admit...i like the movie and its minimalism. It seems almost realistic in its tone and plot (minus the fantastical and what happens once she arrives in the woods). All in all, would reccomend.

This is honesty one of the most boring movies I've ever seen lol. You're basically just watching her wander around aimlessly trying to find people to take to her place lol. There are a couple cool scenes though.

@@Knocalkski It's a really unique movie. And that's what I loved about Under the Skin. There's not many movies like it. Can also recommend any movie by Peter Strickland. The Duke of Burgundy is probably his best work.

The technical feat that Jonathan Glazer was able to achieve with this movie is nothing short of masterclass. An impeccable stupendous cinematic achievement that I would rate on par with a Stanley Kubrick production!!

It's one of those films that would only have been on Channel 4 years ago late on a Friday, and if you were watching it with your Dad he would've said "Oh for Gods sake not another one of these" and then you would watch it for ten minutes before he said "Bollocks then" before turning over.
What a waste of 1 hour and 48 minutes. Slow burn and boring to put it mildly.

Yeah, as a nursery assistant working in Scotland I was very surprised about the little baby alone in what seems Nort Berwick seaside, only for made it realistic. He will be traumatized forever, then they will tell him, but it was for a good movie, and he will be traumatized again.

This movie features Scarlett Johansson as naked as she's ever going to get in the movies. The story is about a largely impassive alien being (Johansson) similar to a social insect like an ant or bee. It has hive mentality and has been engineered to appear as a sexually attractive human. It hunts, kills and processes human males for an undisclosed purpose that may involve interstellar teleportation. It learns to appreciate some human sensations, experiences and values but dies at the hands of a predatory human. OK. Nothing too heavy happens here. The film is pretentious and overblown. But, Johansson looks great nekid.
It's like the English version of species but very weirder very good in this her acting looks so effertlessly great

This movie was boring and not creepy at all. I suppose that if you were in the right frame of mind and have lots of time to burn, this would be entertaining or enjoyable. This was by far the worst movie I’ve seen since the Tree of Life. It’s not even visually entertaining. Clearly a lot of people liked it so I guess I am missing something. Concept not bad but lacks a decent plot. It just sort of drifts around playing with different themes.
Another incomprehensible trailer and likely a stinker at the box office.
Sounds like the regular hollywood-ish crap fanboy. Open your mind dude, or just let people enjoy the strange for themselves .. trust me a lot of people are atracted by what you call "incomprehensible", myself included. Not everyone is OK with the idea of having to watch A Night at the Museum-esque movies their whole lives. If you don't wanna think you have plenty of options at your box office.

Trailers are advertisements. This one advertises nothing. Ask five of your friends what they think the movie is about and compare their answers to yours. None of the answers will be the same because the meaning of this trailer will be derived from your imagination only. That's the point.
UPDATE: It was a stinker at the box office as I guessed it would be. However, I rented it after it was made available on DVD [very soon after being released in theaters]. It was an incredibly strange scifi alien movie.
If you watched first 30 mins you basically watched entire movie, honestly the whole movie should be 30 min, they cheapely extended it by making 5 minute scenes about eating a cake, or 3 mins walk before sitting in a car, no dialogues, music, nothing, just doing generous stuff and adding it to the movie without cuts
It all serves a purpose in the end. I hate to be that guy, but you didn't understand the message behind everything.

just seen this film and I gotta say it was excellent...one of the most disturbing films ive ever seen...Johansson was brilliant in it as an alien wearing johanssons skin as a suit...the harvesting scenes really creeped me out...the scene where Johansson is totally naked in front of the mirror was a brilliant piece of acting...not once did I think my god that's scarlett johanssons body....for me the alien was like a woman in a clothes shop changing room checkin out her new clothes...or the alien looking at what its like to be a human woman...this film was a brilliant disturbing look at the sci-fi genre....

This was such a beautiful film! I thought I just finished watching an unreleased Kubrick film.
Johansson portayed a great roles: a special agent and a member of a team called the Avengers (Natasha/Black widow), an alien seductress who is disgused as a human (Laura), a single person who gains superhuman Powers by a strange drug (Lucy), a Cyborg cop who is hunting down criminals in a futuristic Japan (motoko/major).
Watching this movie now on HBO.
Thought it was a really good thoughtful alien movie. Good Show!

The first time I watched this, I felt kinda bored. 6-7 viewings later, I’m fully entertained.
One thing is for certain, you will either dig it or not. My experience with Aliens is that their behavior is totally foreign to any logic, reason or form of understanding known to mankind. The films attempts to bring the audience into this odd paradigm and I cannot say if it succeeded or failed. Depends on whom you ask. Kubrick and Lynch come to mind a bit and as well as a few other Directors. Kudos for the attempt at expanding the unified energy field.
I turned the movie on and made it in four minutes.
I just wanted to say that whoever the geniuses who thought that this first four minutes didn't deserve ending up on the cutting-room floor is in their own special category of more on. Probably, that is being too kind, perhaps Stew Pid is more like it. The first four minutes lasted for four thousand years and I have never been more irritated in my life. Whoever picked that sound to go along with that visually impotent cinematic display of ignorance, not only compelled me to turn it off, but shockingly has sucks all the joy out of my life in any desire to watch any other movie now and forever.
I would highly recommend that everybody skip ahead 4 minutes because if anyone is depressed or suicidal this will surely push them over to the edge.
I would have loved to been in the meeting before the final edit just so that I could witness for myself what pure organic ignorance looks like in real time.

Damn this was a good film. So good and didn’t have too many effects. Almost was like one of those Sundance films but just super amazing without trying. It caused every bit multiple feelings in this which is how it’s supposed to be. Never felt creeped and mesmerized at the same time.

Watched it. A very unique perspective and tone of thriller.
This film adheres to the "show, don't tell" philosophy of film craft. And it's a European film, so it shows a lot. In the States, this film would be considered X-Rated.
What an extraordinary and profound film. I recommend!
I kind of enjoyed this. It definitely had it's moments and it's not your run of the mill alien stranded on Earth film but I felt it lacked any real plot to draw me in further. However, then I read the book it was loosely (very loosely) based on and realised that the film is something of a missed opportunity. The book is way different and way more complex.

Basically its a movie about an Alien beings, if u count the guy on the motor bike, who need human skin to blend in with human beings. But after a while the human skin leads her to a process of self-discovery. It's a real dark sci-fi that keeps u thinking..
