    That is right where I was stuck learning Affinity Photo. I created the cut out area and then....lost. Now I know. BTW, I am using this process to create a pattern later to blend the vehicle into the street surface with Street View videos. Thank you for excellent tutorial. I subscribed and gave a thumbs up.

    Ran into this old lesson. Incredible tutorial, I really appreciate it. As a beginner, our default tool to use is the selection tool, now I know better. Thank you. Looking forward to more of your lessons.

    Thanks for the lesson! The pen tool is something I rarely use. Now I'm going to start. I usually use the selection tools. But with precise cutouts like that I can see the benefit! Thanks again for this great tutorial!

      You are welcome. Thanks for the comment. I love the pen tool for selections as it allows me to be precise and also edit the curve afterwards.

    Really nice tutorial. Huge step up from the normal selection brush / refine videos. Lots to be learned here from duplicating your cutout layers (safety first) to merging down different selections. Big fan of yours. Well done!

    Thank you, another great video. Could you show how you would deal with colour reflection on tarmac? So it matches your green. Cheers

    • @ScottWilliamsPhotography
      @ScottWilliamsPhotography  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you Sebastien. To turn the reflection green. Create a HSL adjustment. With the HSL Adjustment select red. Change the hue to the left until the reflection matches the car. Invert the HSL layer(crtrl+i). Use the paint brush set to white to paint the colour back into the reflection. Hope that helps 😀

      Hi William. I have tried Photolab and I think it is very good. I have not used it extensively yet but I plan to in the future. It does seem to be very responsive and gives excellent results with very little effort. I will create some content for it when I get around to evaluating and testing it properly.

    Really good tutorial! Maybe you can make a tutorial on how to cut out even more complex things like hair on a person? And I mean cutting out from a complex background.

    • @ScottWilliamsPhotography
      @ScottWilliamsPhotography  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thank you Felix. I definitely will make more tutorials on cutting out and then using the images as parts of new images etc. Especially intricate things like leaves and hair. It is such a huge subject that it is impossible to get it into one small video.

      Yes! :) Cutting out and placing in new images would be really nice. This is the fun part with AP, otherwise you only need softwares like Lightroom...

    Thank you- excellent tutorial. I am new to Affinity Photo and need as much help as I can get! How would you make the red reflections on the ground match the now green car?

    • @ScottWilliamsPhotography

    • @ScottWilliamsPhotography
      @ScottWilliamsPhotography  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      HI Stephen. The layer you are copying from may not be a pixel layer. Try right clicking on the image layer and selecting "rasterise" to make the layer into a pixel layer before making the selection.

    Near the end, why was white not affected? New to this , don’t have Photoshop background either.

    • @ScottWilliamsPhotography
      @ScottWilliamsPhotography  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question Edward. It is because the HSL adjustment effects only the hue. The image information is represented by the HSL model. Which is Hue, Saturation and luminance. The Hue control adjusts the hue channel which changes the colour. As Black, greys and white all have no colour. They are completely desaturated and so don't change. Only Saturated colours change. The Black and white adjuster will only change the colours you specify. The less saturated the colour, the less of a change you will see.

  • @augustya7543

    Hi Scott ! I have a question for you . Using afginity Photo to remove background is a big, bos use case for me. I want to master it anyhow..so far the way I have veen doing is using the Smart Selection tool but it does not work that lerfectly if the background is not a comtrast colour and when I use it chips off/ eats up the subject lioe for e.g. if I am trying to make a seldctio around the person's ear. It just does not work immaculately. There is always some error. And refine selection makes matter even more worst for me. Do you think I should use.pen tool ? But in my case I am trying to remove the background from a portrait photo of a person. What would be your suggestion in this ?

    • @ScottWilliamsPhotography
      @ScottWilliamsPhotography  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the background is complex and the transition between the subject is not well defined then you may be better off using a mask and brushing away the background edged bit by bit.

    I really wish Affinity used a magic wand like Photoshop has. I used that a lot on simple cut outs. It made it super easy. This just makes a simple task a lot harder. Also, their selection brush really sucks. It really struggles to find edges. I am kiinda disappointed with this program actually.

    • @ScottWilliamsPhotography
      @ScottWilliamsPhotography  ปีที่แล้ว

      The selection brush in affinity is similar to the magic wand. After using photoshop for years I find using affinity different but still great.
