  • I was tired of waiting for the Maserati to return from the workshop, so I bought a 2002 CL500 for peanuts - and it's absolutely amazing!
    Richard at Oldtimer Centre went above and beyond when the sensor failed, so big shoutout to him. They have a great collection of older MBs at great prices - check them out here: www.old.com.au

    Picked one of these up about a year ago - absolutely in love with it. No major issues so far, although several oil leaks & a brake fluid leak fixed so far. 2003 CL500 with (currently) about 94,000 miles on the clock.

    Hi! Im from germany and just wanted to congratulate on this great car and tell you, that these Mercedes easily run for over 600.000km over here as long as you maintain them regulary. So please don't spend maintenace money on 22" chrome wheels and drill holes in the exhaust like many fellow foreign citizens do over here to show off in front of young girls. That would be great! Thank you for caring for this beautiful machine and have fun driving! :) Im looking forward to new videos with the CL. Greetings!

      Haha! OK! Wasn't planning anything as drastic as that, just some tasteful upgraded AMG rims. No aftermarket exhaust though! Thanks for stopping by!

    I purchased my 2004 CL500 when I was 19 in 2016 for 17,000$ cash. I absolutely adore my car!!! It had roughly 70,000 miles on it at the time of purchase. It was a fabulous investment and has only gave me a few issues regarding my EIS. Mine is Horizon Blue Metallic with charcoal grey interior 😍 great video!!!

    Nice video man! This car really really reminds me of my V8 2005 BMW 6 series. That's also got active body control and all that stuff and it also broke on me on my first day of ownership (luckily the dealer here in the UK took it back, fixed it for free and returned it to me)👍

    Great review and I agree with all your points. Just bought a 2000 CL500 with FMBSH and 45k miles for £5.6k! It looks understated and sleek and is an absolute pleasure to drive. You just float down the road cosseted in shear luxury. However, it does have an excellent chassis and therefore handles really well so is able to give the feedback a 'petrolhead' enjoys. Can't believe just how cheap CL's are. Grab one now and enjoy before people cotton on to just how good these cars are.

    Those CPS usually fail after about 13 years ..
    Should be replaced as maintenance to avoid breakdowns.

    The crank position sensor problem was probably known before you purchased the car, since it's an intermittent problem. Now you get the joy of waiting for the engine mounts to fail and the ABC pump/struts to fail/leak. Inexpensive Mercedes don't stay inexpensive for long.

    Thanks for the informative video ! I have an 04' SL500 - same engine and drivetrain, suspension etc. Never had any problems with the car other than auxiliary battery related issues. Easy to avoid those with a trickle charger if car is not driven every few days. Summer is here and traffic is building so your tip on the bottles of water to cool the CPS is reassuring news. By the time triple A would arrive your car was started and gone!

    I have one, Exact same car. Had it for 5 years now. Had ABC pump replaced twice. Its got other quirks and is not perfect.Cost a small fortune to run here in the UK. But I still love looking at it and the ride is addictive how quite it is. I just love it, but as its getting older, more things will break. Its now leaking oil again from somewhere.

    The wipers are Automatic, it is not shown with an 'A' or an 'Auto' on the stalk but leaving the stalk turned to the intermittent setting activates the auto wipe sensor and the wipers will activate and adjust themselves according to the amount of water on the windscreen.

    • @mguytv
      @mguytv  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great tip thank you. I need to RTFM, as the saying goes!

    • @KyleJHB
      @KyleJHB 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A car like this has infinite hidden functions that require you to RTFM haha. I learnt a few from my Mercs' over the years. Here are some I can share that you might find useful. If you have the windows open and/or sunroof you can quickly close all of them at once by holding down the recirculation button on the air conditioning. It activates 'tunnel' mode that closes all open areas to prevent pollution from getting into the cabin. Holding it down a second time will re-open all the windows/sunroof back to the exact same spot it was before closing. When you're using the speed limiter, if you encounter an emergency situation that requires you to accelerate over the limit set, push the accelerator into the 'click' and you will hear a beep as the limiter disengages and allows you to accelerate as normal.

    • @panchozeta2821
      @panchozeta2821 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have a cl500 and the abc system needed repair. I had to change 4 accumulators, two hydraulic lines, not to mention the 8 to 12 L of pentosine fluid to replace the hydraulic fluid that spilled out when the abc hydraulic line broke. All in all about 1800.00 US dollars for the parts and I did all the work. Mechanics wanted up to 7000.00 US dollars to fix. Not a cheap fix.
