I'm quite partial to the interviewee, since I birthed her, but I am endeared to this host. This has to be one of the best interviews that I have watched, and not just because Hayden (Ethel Cain) is the guest. I thoroughly enjoyed the host's questions and the down-to-earth way that he interacted with his guest. You, sir, are quite wonderful at what you do.
Hey! one of your fans talked up your music on a Comments board under an upload by Finn McKenty covering up-and-coming pop-punk and emo artists. That fan led me to “Crush” then the “Inbred” single on YT, and eventually this interview. Take care and best wishes toward material security and personal fulfillment while chasing your passion!
when i first discovered ethel cain i sort of immediately thought that she reminded me of lana del rey, but not the lana del rey singing about the glamour of the "american dream" or whatever. but ethel reminded me of lana's very early works as 'lizzy grant' whenever she was living in a trailer park. i'm not trying to compare ethel at all she's an amazing unique artist but that was just the vibe i got
Some of Ethel’s work, especially her demos, reminds of Halsey’s earlier work as well. They are all unique in their own way regardless and produce a very emotional sound. 💖
Listening to Ethel talk gets me stoked. I was homeschooled and raised in the Southern Baptist Church in the Deep South. Mother Cain's music speaks to me in ways I've never experienced before. It's haunting. I like how she says that she wanted to listen to her sound so she created it. I feel the same way when listening to her. She created something where there has been a void that needed to be filled, and there's still plenty of more space left to fill. Ethel Cain is helping me process emotions that have lay dormant for so long. I'm glad to know I'm not alone and there are a lot of us out there who are finding ourselves out of the dark ages of Christianity and into a new life. It's scary sometimes, but thank you for making your music, Ethel, and helping the rest of us feel less alone.
Young people are so smart today. I loved how she took stock of her life analysed the situation focussed on what she wanted and constructed a plan. Most people allow a thousand and one things to fog their minds. I also loved the description of Florida in 2000 being like the 1990's. She will be relateable to more than one generation : )) which is probably a trait shared with lots of other new young artists, that are appreciated by a much older audience. It must be really annoying for artists having viewers commenting on other musicians, but there is a great gang of new (and not quite so new) musicians (Sierra Ferrel, Jessie Murph, Gayle, Noah Cyrus, Anne-Marie, Miley Cyrus) which make this era just amazing for music lovers. I have to say the 'Crush' track was the one that got me, I think in part because of the strong bass, which is something shared with Gayle's music.
Her humbleness and kindness really comes through here. To be honest, given the weight and darkness in her music, I didn't expect her to have such a bright personality-seems like a total sweetheart
I was raised poor shit in small town Cordell Oklahoma in the eighties and nineties indeed and Ethel Cain's music brings a sense of nostalgia that is near
Golden Age, something far beyond the scope of our diurnal discourse...it breathes between the star of things, talks of purpose in the woodland, whispers that it's good to be alive....
You are an amazing artist. You are helping me with my love. And life. And I grew up in a rural town of 729 people. I get that upraising. Super Christian. Super insulated. I escaped. Glad you did as well.
I'm really impressed with Ethel. It's great to see this interview, and get to know a little more about her, beyond her music. I wish her the best, and please, keep working, and writing, and performing. Music is my Love, and I really like what she is doing!
this is such an amazing interview! the research behind the questions and the way you let her speak is something that we as an audience don’t rlly see often when people interview artists so thank u for this !!
I'm just so obsessed, I can't believe how I found Ethel Cain but I'm so glad I did. Funny she said voice of an angel because I can't imagine one would sound better. I'm so excited to see her live, it's goosebumps everytime I listen, it makes listening to her in the shower very difficult trying to shave my legs 😂
i literally cannot believe we are getting a 10 fucking minute long ethel cain x wpse track,, , two of my fav artists?? for 10 MINUTES !!?! i dont want to make that lyric video but i know that i will...
I grew up in a poor rural town in California. In those days we would hang out in trailer parks since that's where everyone was. Most of my friends were criminals, cooking meth in the hills, ripping off ATMs, breaking into homes, having bon fire parties by the lake. We would work on the car all day to go get McDonald's from the town three towns over. When I hear country music, it's like what these people wanted but couldn't have, when I hear Ethel Cains music, it's about the lives we led back then. Like when Frank chained an ATM to the back of his Camero and was doing donuts in the parking lot with the ATM dragging behind him. He got drunk one night and was driving around the back hills and his brakes went out and he died when he crashed his car off a cliff.
@@xicana260 yup. Andy's mom said she was going gold panning and a couple of days later she would come home smelling like meth with cold onion rings in a bk bag. If you wanted McDonald's you would have to go to a town three towns over. I moved away, most of them are dead or in jail.
I feed the same way! I Her story, her hour, her Music! Thank you for this interview. She seme so genuine, so real. I discovered her music just today! Fell in love
"Lana Del Ray" is exactly a polar opposite to Ethel, but Ethel has the voice and musicality. I thought the production was Garage Band of some sort but I hope she has the opportunity to explore much more in a proper studio while not being imprisoned by a Record Company contract for years.
She needs to tour more, develop her live act, and perhaps approach a label like Sargent House (which with some development I think would be a good match)...

I've only just discovered your music, and I'm falling deeply in love with it. You are the angel I needed right now.
Just discovered you!!!!!!!!!! I'm so glad I have
So Ethel's passionate about filmmaking too, that explains why she's so good at creating a solid and immersive aesthetic to her music

thank you for your analysis, makes sense!
i felt absolutely the same way!
Some of Ethel’s work, especially her demos, reminds of Halsey’s earlier work as well. They are all unique in their own way regardless and produce a very emotional sound. 💖
I think its just the Americana theme. Honestly her work reminds me of a mix between early (lizzy grant) lana and florence.
Need more Ethel Cain content in my life
I follow your channel since 2015 lol hi girl
cain is blessed as holy spirit

Amazing artist. Amazing interviewer. Thank you both.
Great to see such a wonderful interview of such an exciting contemporary artist! Superb interviewing and really generous responses.
Very comfy interview, you're a great interviewer and you both seem very much on the same wavelength
She needs to tour more, develop her live act, and perhaps approach a label like Sargent House (which with some development I think would be a good match)...
We will pass on the word (we won't but maybe DM her management?)
