When parts of speech map literally (in other words, like the 絵 in 太陽の絵 at around 7:22) but don’t map to the ‘natural sentence’, that’s really helpful in terms of understand what’s going on/how things work, it’s really appreciated!

I love how literal Japanese is haha.
I'm hungry is "Stomach is empty"
I'm thirsty is "Throat is dry"
    Smart is "Head is good"

When taking a practice test, my ability is all over the place. I get about half of each level right. That's mainly because I didn't learn the words in order, but just looked up words I wanted to know as I wanted to know them. Or looked up words I didn't understand in a song, anime, etc...

    • @secondsolstice8695

Same thing. Truth be told when getting serious with a language you probably have to trace back some steps and get the foundations right. I just do it for the fun though

LOL I will always remember "sun" in Japanese after playing the game Boktai as a kid...such a cool game, it would have a little light sensor on the game cartridge that could tell if you were in the sun (you could use a strong artificial light too). You needed to charge your weapons in sunlight and the character would scream "Taiyooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!" haha
