I assume that you are referring to Nixon vs Fitzgerald, where the principle of immunity on civil matters was first determined. This is referred to throughout both the opinions on Trump vs United States and the dissents. It is well explained, in Sotomayor's dissent, why immunity on civil liability should not lead to immunity on criminal liability, chiefly on the different levels of burden-of-proof, but also on the potential for vexatiousness and inundation of the courts that subsisted in Fitzgerald, which does not exist in Trump Vs United States.
