      I believe Verizon now offers service in Cuba so if you’re on them you might not even need the SIM!

    I will be traveling to Cuba next week can I change a few canadian in peso or US Dollars

    • @manatee3629
      @manatee3629  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's probably best to change to USD or Euros at a bank in Canada before you leave, if you want to change to pesos in Cuba. Usually Euro and USD are both accepted at the same rate inside of Cuba, as far as I could tell. CAD is accepted at the official exchange stands (pretty bad rates) and some people will take CAD, but not as well accepted as the other two.

    Do you need reservations for lodging before you get there? Very informative video, thanks.

    • @antoniojackson7219
      @antoniojackson7219 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes the safest bet is Airbnb. If you are American you can’t stay in the hotels because most are owned by the Cuban government.

    • @antoniodelrey164
      @antoniodelrey164 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@antoniojackson7219 thanks! You did a great job. Keep traveling and sharing. Two Antonio’s, just noticed!

    • @manatee3629
      @manatee3629  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, I’d go with Airbnb. I also met a traveler who was pretty successful just walking around the city without a reservation and knocking on doors (the rental houses are marked with a sign) to find a place, especially in Old Havana.

    • @antoniodelrey164
      @antoniodelrey164 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@manatee3629 ok, sounds like the way to find a good match. Just need to know this and seems answer is here but here goes: it appears then that no proof of reservation is need when arriving? Thanks!

    • @manatee3629
      @manatee3629  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, I don’t believe so. It’s been a while since I went there but I think the Tourist Card (basically a a visa) that you buy doesn’t ask for address.

    Hi. How about people from USA getting etecsa service that is operated by Cuba government and remember USA restrictions and regulations? Would it be a problem ? Thanks for answering

    • @manatee3629
      @manatee3629  ปีที่แล้ว

      The full list of restricted entities is here: www.state.gov/cuba-restricted-list/list-of-restricted-entities-and-subentities-associated-with-cuba-effective-january-8-2021/
      AFAIK ETECSA is not one of them. You will need a VPN to access certain services though, such as the Apple App Store, when on Cuban internet. Enjoy your trip!

      Yes, it’s included in your plane ticket. Required for every flight to Cuba!

    How much money do you recommend to convert to the currency? On average how much did you spend or what amount do you find useful?

    • @manatee3629
      @manatee3629  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bring more cash than you think you need! Food and transportation aren’t that cheap in Cuba. I brought $500 for 6 nights and cut it really really close.
      I wouldn’t convert everything in the beginning, maybe just $50-$100 at a time. It’s mostly for restaurants and La Nave. It’s easy to convert through your Casa host and a lot of places (tours, rentals, etc.) will prefer foreign currency at a very good rate.

    I will go to Cuba at the end of January. Will I be able to access Facebook and western news sites or will I need a VPN?

    • @manatee3629
      @manatee3629  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, I believe so. The ones that I couldn't access are things like the Apple App Store and Netflix, which don't operate in Cuba.
      Download the Proton VPN app before you leave though just in case! It's free unless you need to stream video.

    Great video! Regarding the internet, do you happen to know where the etecsa office is in Varadero Airport? Is it open 24h?

    • @manatee3629
      @manatee3629  ปีที่แล้ว

      According to this website suenacuba.com/tourist_sim_card_cuba/how_to_get_cellular_internet there is one before customs and it’s open 24/7!

    When I sign up to get the Sim card it asks for my phone number. I'm assigned a new number in Cuba to enter into LA Nave?

    • @manatee3629
      @manatee3629  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, the SIM card will have a number associated with it - your American number won’t work in Cuba!

  • @user-mg3ff9kj9c
    @user-mg3ff9kj9c 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    So I just downloaded PROTON VPN and the list of countries they give does not include Cuba. Is this correct and will not be a problem when I get there?

    • @manatee3629
      @manatee3629  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      So the countries they list are the countries that you can VPN into. As long as your home country is there, you’re good

    What do I need to do to actually get to Cuba? do I just need to get the visa that's it or are there any additional steps do I need to take as an American

    • @manatee3629
      @manatee3629  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You mean Cuba right? You need to go to one of 2 airports (Houston or Miami?) and buy a visa at the gate there. You also need a stated mission/purpose of visiting, and avoid staying at government/military owned hotels. Some won’t even let you stay with an American passport. Use Airbnb and watch the last bit of my video!
