  • Shimoda sent me their new Urban Explore backpack to test out and review over the last month. In this video I feature the 20L size and it also comes in a 25L and 30L size which both fit 16" laptops👌 The 20L is a cute little bag, it's simple, functional and lightweight for your everyday carry around the city or commute to work! If you're a street photographer who needs a compact powerhouse for a backpack then the Shimoda Urban Explore is for you!
    Note: This review is my opinion based on using and testing the product and Shimoda had no say in this review.

    Good review. Glad I found your channel. I have the Shimoda Explore 35 liter with large DSLR ICU, a little bigger then I need.

      G'day and thanks for the support! Yes the bag situation always depends on what you need it for and how you intend to use them. As I personally have 3 other 25L bags I preferred a 20L version to compliment the others, so the aim will be to carry a smaller load with the 20L - don't always need everything with me so you just need to look at your usage needs and what you want to carry! The 20L is not the kind of size bag to get if you are wanting a "workhorse" for a backpack! You would need to go for a 30L size
      Happy to answer any other questions 😊

    My 20L bag is scheduled to arrive in February. This will be my first Shimoda bag.

    Joanne, nice review. Big fan of Shimoda. I think it’s a great every day camera bag or even a personal under the seat travel bag. Just one thing. I think the 20l can accommodate a 14 inch laptop. The other urban bags can accommodate a 16 inch laptop. Correct me if I am wrong. Best wishes from the UK.

      yes, both the 25 and 30 will fit the 16 - Thanks Ian

      Hey hey thanks very much! With the 20L I don't have a 14inch laptop to test it but when I place the 11inch ipad in there which has a rugged case, that just fits in with only a finger of room left on the side so based off that I doubt the 14inch would fit
      As mentioned the 25 and 30L will both definitely fit a 14 and 16inch laptop - Shimoda have confirmed that as well 😊

    Been looking for a new camera bag, might have to check this one out! Can't stand bags with dark interiors, makes finding small gear impossible.

      For sure! Check these ones out😁 a huge thing for me was the coloured interior I totally agree with you on that!

    Would a a7r3 with a battery grip attached fit in the 25L and also be able to get it out of the side access?

    Bit of a strange one, the kickstarter says the 20L will fit a 14” laptop. I am second guessing myself now as I mainly use a 12.9” iPad when I’m mobile.

    • @joannestephan
      @joannestephan  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Heya yeh I don't own a 14inch to test it out but from what I gathered with my ipad it squeezed in you can see in my video when I demo putting on the ipad - I'll contact Shimoda HQ and ask them if a 14inch can fit as I'm sure they may have tested this theory so will come back to you soon 👍

      I have 2 older Shimoda backpacks and the laptop compartment has always been the flap that covers the camera cube. Where the reviewer tried to put her iPad in is new to the Urban Explore. An extra compartment for tablets or really small laptop. So basically with the 20L Urban version you can now carry a 14” laptop & a tablet at the same time. Unless Ian from Shimoda does not designate the back flap as a laptop compartment anymore.

    Think you could get 1 more lens in? 20g or 35gm? Do you wish you had the 25l? How tall are you?

    • @joannestephan
      @joannestephan  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hey yes I've had 3 lenses in there including the 70-200 2.8GMii
      I already own 3 other bags at 25L so wanted to change it up this time
      I'm 163cm tall and weigh about 55kg with a slim build - so for me I personally can't carry more than 25L in size! 😁

      @@joannestephan I hear you! I am also trying to not have much overlap. Great feedback with what you can carry. To confirm the lenses were all unmounted?

    • @joannestephan
      @joannestephan  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ECDPhotography yep all lenses unmounted - also don't have the lens hoods on them I never ever get rarely use lens hoods with my style of shooting 😎

    Can you fit your 70-200 gm ii horizontally in the camera cube?

    • @joannestephan
      @joannestephan  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No it can't fit horizontal which is why I configured it vertically

  • @TheAfricanChronicles
    @TheAfricanChronicles 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Does the bag stay vertical when you put it on the ground?

    • @joannestephan
      @joannestephan  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No it does not and that's one of my biggest gripes with it! 🙃 But aside from that the rest of it is pretty functional!
