Exactly! Eliza is "trusting and kind" which makes her reaction should be more of sad than anger. The anger side should belongs to someone "gossip and insidious" like Angelica.
True, while i have an appreciation for how Philipa sings it, ill have to say I prefer Rachelle's version better because it shows Eliza's breaking point. It doesn't keep Eliza with the same sympathetic ways which in my opinion makes it better
This just goes to prove no one knows how eliza reacted, whether she was broken or angry. So we shouldn't really compare them because each of them saw eliza's reaction to this differently
In Rachelle's version, you can feel her pain, her anger, and her disgust at Hamilton, you can feel her version like you're Eliza. You can hear her voice like you're next to her, her voice makes you understand what Alexander did. And really hear her voice. Philipa-Soo's version has power, anger, saddness and you could see her suffering from the pain. You could tell she's been going through things, and hearing her voice would make you understand the whole play, and understand how hurt she is. Their voices are equally amazing, and you shouldn't compare them.
I prefer Phillipa’s version, HOWEVER I have listened to her version many more times and it is the original. I think we tend to revere originals more than other performances even if they’re just as good. Rachelles voice is STUNNING and the anger shown is so beautiful. I find I personally relate with betrayal and sadness more than anger so that’s why I prefer Phillipa’s version slightly
Agreed! I try to be more open minded to the other versions, and I’m glad I do. The other actors and actresses bring different sides to the characters that I wouldn’t have thought about if I only watched the original cast. I love how others interpret it. It’s definitely worth it to watch whatever footage, or listen to whatever audio there is of the other casts.
I've only ever known Phillipa's version but damn, Rachelle's just as amazing. Either version's display of emotions would be accurate but for the people in the comments saying Rachelle's anger doesn't fit Eliza's "innocent, trusting and kind" personality: it doesn't matter how innocent or trusting or kind someone is being angry and heartbroken go hand in hand when you've been cheated on and betrayed by someone you love.
Yes just because you are innocent and trusting doesn't mean you are not capable of being mad and bitter and other negative emotions. Hurt and betrayal can change anyone.
I have to say I'm much more interested in how this Eliza travels the distance between here and the end. We only think of Eliza as sweet and innocent because that's how Phillippa played her. I real life of course she was furious. The fact that she was innocent and trusting makes it so much worse of a betrayal. I can't even imagine a world in which the real Eliza wasn't reacting with any rage at all.
didn't think about this angle at all, and more makes me need to see the way Rachelle played the rest of the role as well as it's fantastic but I'm still picturing Phillipa's portrayal for the rest of the show which doesn't fit.
I feel like Rachelle did the same thing but portrayed the character at her breaking point. Her husband basically ignores her and their kids for a decade for his job. Then he not only has an affair but publishes it in the god damn paper. It's reasonable that she'd be angry and have had enough at that point.
Yeah, but at the same time the fact that Rachelles version of her being disgusted and furious at hamilton introduces character development rather than keeping that sweet cinnamon roll Eliza. I feel the song should really show Eliza becoming more mature and more brought into reality, which I feel Rachelle portrayed better.
She raised her children basically alone, survived scandal, started the country’s first orphanage after Hamilton died and lived to be 97. She was a powerhouse. Also, she was in the privacy of her own home.
I prefer Phillipa's version, because you can tell that she still loves him. And the forgiveness in It's Quiet Uptown makes more sense. Rachelle isn't forgiving Alexander ANYTIME SOON.
If I was Alexander Hamilton, I wouldn’t show my face to Rachelle because I felt she would have been hell’s fury. Girl, I wouldn’t show up at your doorstep for fear of my life 😂
Sometimes silence and calmness is more painful than fury, that's why I like Phillipa's version more, you can't see any emotions on her face yet you can feel her suffer and pain through her voice
Phillips Soo sounds so broken. You can hear and see: shock, denial, anger, bargaining, and depression in her performance. Rachelle Ann Go is very talented and expressed emotion in her performance. I enjoyed them both. I don't think I could choose.
Rachelle was so intense! I love the anger and all the feelings she shows to us. But Phillipa borned to be Eliza. You can really feel the love she had for Alex and how her heart was broken. They were amazing in their ways
Rachelle makes me feel angry at Hamilton with her while Phillipa makes me feel heartbroken and devastated with her. Those are probably both how Eliza felt when she found out what happened. Soo that said... Why are you comparing them?? Their preformances are both amazing and they are both like Eliza in their own right.
Laurel Newson I agree with you. I feel that Rachelle is channeling First Burn, and Pippa is reining in all that fury and she's just done. She's has time to rage, and now it's just replaced with heartbreak and disappointment. For Pippa's Eliza, Ham just isn't worth the emotional energy to even be angry anymore, she's just finished. She so far past hurt, she's just numb. In a way, her reaction is more powerful, as when you have that outward anger like Rachelle, at least you still care. Pippa is past that point, which is scarier in my opinion.
I think that both Elizas did a great job! Phillipa showed more of the hurt that Eliza went through, while Rachelle's version was expressed more of the anger that Elza went through. Different interpretations of Eliza's emotions, but overall both are incredibly talented!
Rachelle for me, she portrayed hurt, sadness, and the feeling of betrayal at first and progressed into anger and disgust towards the end, and i loved that. Eliza is an angel but everyone has a breaking point, she has to feel not only for herself but for her children as well... rachelle's eliza portrayed that well for me.
In Rachelle's version, you can feel her pain first for th first few minutes then regret and distrust for a few seconds and then the growing anger after. She sounds like someone who wouldn't forgive her husband for six years.
I have to say Rachelle was good, but Phillipa Soo slayed it. She showed so much emotion but Rachelle stuck to mostly anger. I think the original Burn is supposed to show sadness and heartbreak while First Burn shows the anger. In First Burn, Rachelle was incredible because her anger was amazing. Phillipa was the original so she will always be the best I believe, even though they're all amazing. Phillipa has a very special place in the hearts of Hamilton Fans❤️❤️
Kat Sings, it wasn't just anger. There was also disgust in her voice. When she said, " *Im earasing myself from the narritive,* " her voice was breaking. I do agree though, that Burn was more to show saddness and heartbreak, while First Burn was supposed to show anger. Phillipa Soo nailed it, but they both have strong characteristics that make them Elizabeth Schulyer.
Phillipa definitely did better imo. I like how Eliza just stays incredibly collected and calm because she's trying to be strong, but you can hear her resolve crumbling because she really does feel destroyed. R was good, but I don't know if her version fits best. Especially since the original version seems so steady until the end
At this point im not sure but the song isnt supposed to be steady until the end. The tone of the last few stanzas of the song suggests that she’s supposed to be resentful of what Hamilton did. Personally, i think this song is supposed to be emit Eliza’s anger, thats why “burn” was greatly emphasized. Calm and steady doesnt really do it.
@@CO-jr9er I can see where you're coming from, but Eliza's words and tone shows that she was trying to hold herself together to truly say what she meant, the song definitely does become more angry and less sophisticated towards the end, but she was (in my opinion) trying not to make herself vulnerable to him
They are both SO incredible, but I always have to say that the original does it better. You can’t do it better than the og cause they make the song, in my opinion. Every next cast member has their own twist that makes the song their own and incredible, but to me Phillipa is the best! Just my opinion don’t murder me please XD
For me it’s not quite that the original is better because they were first, it’s just that I listen to original soundtracks so much that other people don’t sound quite right because I’m not used to it. If I had heard a different version first, I would probably like that one more
▪︎Vocally: Rachelle has a powerful voice compared to Phillipa; Phillipa has a soft and mellow voice. ▪︎Acting: Phillipa was calm and suave; Rachelle's expression was strong, and yet controlled In short, these two people are VERY different from each other... talent, experience, etc. We can't really compare them because they show different gush of emotion when they portrayed the character of Eliza. Eliza is a character who was a real person and the writers only knew Eliza through documentaries, so they didn't know every personality Eliza had... especially when she knew Alexander had not been loyal. People's character change when they get mad or frustrated and these two incredibly talented women portrayed what they believe how Eliza could have reacted. Yes, she was frustrated, broken, angry... and these women portrayed these emotions in their own way. So there is no way we could compare these very talented women.
_.shamaris._ _.monena._ in all fairness, this is musical theatre. Eliza May have been quiet and reserved, but that doesn’t mean that she was a wallflower. After he husbands death, she explored his story. Her strength bares through in Rachelle’s telling. Of course, Phillipa, is amazing, but just wanted to shed a lot on a different perspective, since we have no idea how Eliza truly felt back then
You make good points about how we don't know so much about the real historical figure, to the point where Eliza in this is basically a fictional characters. As are most, while based on historic events it's heavily fictionalized - a creative work. In particular a lot of historical figures are black in this play and were white in reality. The historical unknowns are actually referenced in this song, "Let future historians wonder how Eliza reacted," because we actually don't know.
Agreed,They both sound good same character, different voices, some different expressions and people compare them saying Rachelle is good but to compare to the original person who played Eliza is kinda messed up
I always love Philippa’s voice. Her voice is just so beautiful to me. I’ve never seen her live but I was lucky enough to see Rachelle live and her acting amazed me. I believed every emotions. How can people sing and cry like that at the same time!?
Rachelle's version was sooo full of emotions, you can really feel the pain, anger, fury, and all those emotions. Both of them did great portraying Eliza but I personally think Philippa was a perfect fit for the character of Eliza, calm, soft hearted, the innocence. Alexander would've been dead seeing the expression of Rachelle as Eliza boi
I do respect Phillipa's performance but Rachel is holding more emotions in singing than Phillipa( for me). And Rachel's voice just seems to be more powerful than Phillipa that is why you think she held more anger than the og but then again we have different perspective in terms of giving our critics. I still respect your side though.
antonio lunaxx I agree, but emotionally I think that Philippa pulled through, while Rachelle stuck to anger Philippas voice still showed that she still loves Hamilton, and had sick a broken feel. But, what you think is what you think I’m not trying to cause a fight :)
People saying that Rachelle's version was angry, I don't think so. Yeah, it was angry in a way, but it was hurting angry, sad angry, not just angry angry. It's like that's the only way to release her emotions without anymore crying.
both of them sound incredible. however, the original will always have a special place in my heart and in my opinion, nothing will compare to the original. every time i listen to original (phillipa’s version) i get goosebumps because of how incredible it is. whilst rachelle is absolutely incredible and has an amazing voice, the original will always be better in my opinion :)
you don’t go burning letters calm and composed. I should say Rachelle’s BURN conveyed the emotion of a woman betrayed. Eliza was a gentle character yes but at this point she showed her rage and hurt.
I love how differently they act during the "you" part. Phillipa (0:46) just gently touches the letter, but Rachelle (4:32) rocked it as if the letter had lost it's value for her
I’d have to go with Philipa, I mean, R was undoubtedly amazing too, it’s just you can hear in Philipas voice the pain, and innocence in her trying to be strong. Overall they’re both great
I’m a big Rachel Ann Go fan, but PhilippA’s version is perfect for Elizas character.

To be honest... They're incomparable... Because they have completely different interpretations... Philipa has a more mature, mother like internaly contained anger and disappointment.... While Rachel has more of an outward anger... That being said, I kind of prefer Philip's version just a little bit... I can't explain why... But again... To make it clear... They're both amazing performers
I like Phillipa’s version more. She fit that character so well. Rachelle did an amazing job but Phillipa’s version started off very quiet then she had a lot of passion at the end. Rachelle was very passionate throughout the whole thing, which is fine haha. But I just like Phillipa’s version more
I preferred Rachelle ann go Her voice has more passion. I think we need to understand that not only is Eliza supposed to be a sad uwu victim she is supposed to mad irrational confused and disgusted while also being sad Rachel did all of that in her voice which shows her talent while I'm not saying Phillipa's version bad im saying I enjoyed Rachels burn more.
Their versions of the song fit their portrayals of the character tbh. I had compared the Baltimore Eliza to Philippa’s version and our was DEFINITELY angrier with this song but it fit because of Hamilton completely shattered her happiness by telling the world about the affair before his wife. All of them fit their versions
i saw hamilton in london last night (for the second time) and both times, Rachelle played Eliza. last time, i was sat far back so it was a good vocal performance, but i was too shocked by the entire show to focus on her overall performance. last night, her performance from vocals to facial expressions was beyond amazing. i have never felt so emotional by hearing someone sing with such passion (afterall i am only 16 so i have not experienced love or anything like eliza has). i sat in the second row, so i could see the pain in her expression and the way she sang “you” (you know the part),. i was literally trying to hold back the tears. love Phillipa Soo too, but Rachelle absolutely killed it yesterday 👏
The "you, you you" has always been one of my favourite parts of Burn, due to the contempt and anger. Alex has so often only thought of himself, and not how his actions will affect his wife & children. The public humiliation of it all.
I cried when i saw it on TV with Philipa-Soo, my wife cheated on me and it just hit home. My kids and I watched it and we all loved her performance. They didn't cry,but they are beyond hurt and the song just resonated with what we are feeling.
I just can't compare them,in my opinion Rachelle version of Eliza is angry and in rage, and Phillipa's is sweet, sad and in pain, both perfect but completely different portraits of Eliza
Phillips's version of this song sounds like she just found out that Alexander cheated, and is still going through the shock and sadness, while Rachelle's version sounds more like she has thought about the situation for a while and is already to the anger phase of grieving. Both are phenomenal performances.
I think they’re both equally amazing. I might personally resonate a bit more with Rachelle Ann Go’s version. She has more of that “I’ll burn your letters *AND* burn down your car!” vibe, which would basically me after finding out my man cheated.
MonAlicia yes I agree! Rachelle has more of that pulsing, vibrant anger. Which would be me on first reaction, but I feel Pippa's version fits in more with Eliza's personally. That deep hurt, plays more to her character, and the cold shoulder we see in Quiet Uptown where she can't even look at him, when all she's done up until then is look at him with adoration. You see more of this anger in Stay Alive Reprise with the "Who did this? Alexander did you know?!" How resentful she still is, and how she rips her hand away when Alex tries to comfort her. It's so hard to choose, both are equal good for different reasons. I have such a soft spot for Pippa though.
philipa’s version will always have a special place in my heart, but i’m more in love w/ first burn and i feel rachelle’s version rlly gets across what i feel in the song - the visceral, raw, wild, pain, soaring out of her. it gave me goosebumps
There were both exceptional. Showed different sides of Eliza in that song. But for me I saw the growth of the character more on Phillipa Soo's version. I like the maturity she showed, from a bubbly miss to a fine woman who deals her pain so fine.
rachelle! i saw hamilton in london just over a year ago and she is INCREDIBLE! watching something like that live is amazing, her tonality and portrayal of the song was breathtaking. 10/10 recommend!!
ya, but in phillipas voice she sounds more hurt. but i do agree, except i like phillipa a little better. but i don’t mean any harm! tbh they’re very hard to compare i love them both.
Rachelle's voice is powerful, thus it sounds like she's angry when she isn't. Meanwhile Philippa's voice is both soft and strong, that's why hers can sound heartbroken. Having a powerful voice is hard, since it is kinda hard to perform on a softer tone. And when I listened to Rachelle's version, I never once thought hers was angry, more of a mix of sadness, anger, confusion to what Alexander did to her. Therefore, my vote would go to Rachelle. Both did good either way.
I only saw rachelle live so it may be difficult to judge correctly. Her burn is just so vocally outstanding... her voice has so much power & clarity without sacrificing control. seriously, chills down one's spine... Her burn sounds angrier for sure... but on hindsight, her eliza seemed angrier on the whole. So if u look at her performance for d entire night, an angry burn is not out of place at all.
I love both. They're both amazing. But personally, I like Rachelle's just that little bit more. I get goosebumps every time I listen to Pippa singing Burn on the soundtrack, but Rachelle holds that little spot because she was the first Eliza I saw live the first time I saw Hamilton.
Am I the only one who heard that person sob in Rachelle's version at the end, because same girl I'm sobbing too this was amazing, the anger, the pain was just so intense..
I am a bit biased: the first time I saw Hamilton was in Disney+ with the original cast. And the soundtrack recording is the original cast as well. I was so used to Phillipa that when Rachelle started singing, I was like, “Hang on, that’s not how it’s supposed to sound!” But then later at the end of the song I was like, “Wow, she’s awesome!” I can now say that both the women sang “Burn” beautifully and are both amazing as Eliza!!
@@Deangers1 I think Rachelle fit it better. She put more emotion in it, Philipa have a great voice but I didn't feel the emotions and the expression. Ofc, it's about opinions, but Rachelle did it better, for me. Philipa did great too for the voice, tho.
One thing I really love about Philipa-Soo's version is this moment of yearning and affection on the repeated "you(s)" which then is held for a moment and then gives way to the heartbreaking realization that she must "(erase herself) from the narrative..." It's so incredibly subtle but unbelievably nuanced and heartbreaking...
People get attached to whoever originated the role like Phillipa Soo as Eliza. But just telling the truth when I say that Rachelle Ann Go is ust vocally superior imo. She even got the emotional details of the song, ex. you really feel her scorn when she sung you, you, you...
4 months late, but I usually listen to the studio recording of Phillipa and she perfectly nailed the scorn in the "you"s in my opinion. I think Eliza's whole thing is that she DOESN'T get loudly angry, so the short bursts of anger Soo showed in her performance was perfect to me.
Phillipa resonates with the song Burn perfectly as it shows sadness while Rachel Ann resonates with the cut song "First Burn" as it gives the feeling of anger more
The original has a special place in all of our hearts, but you need to remember that the new broadway cast are doing just an amazing job with everyone. Most of us haven't seen or heard the show with Rachelle, and we're attatched to Phillipa as Eliza.
I love them both! But, I do like the fact that Phillipa had a more motherly tone to her. Where as Rachelle had more anger. Its not the singing abillity, its just how different their voice is toned, also, how much force and emotion the put into it. Overall, they both have the characteristics to Our beloved, Eliza Schuyler.
I thought I was gonna prefer Phillipa's version because I always prefer the original version but WOW, Rachel did so well that I think I like her version better!
With Rachelle, we saw her Eliza break down from the start of the song ,while Phillipa held it in until the end and then went ballistic. I just prefer it that way more. So in my opinion I like Phillipa.
why compare? I mean, Rachelle Ann has a more powerful voice so her resentments and disgusts will turn out to be more angrier to us because of the resonance and the thickness of her lower register. While on the other hand, Phillipa has a bright tone in her voice that most often sound innocent and sad. The range of emotions based on their looks are enough. You can only work on what you have that will turn out to be very different because they have a very different voices.
I’ve always loved phillipia’s version but I have to say Rachael actually slayed it, she was magnificent, you could really feel the pain and emotion in her voice. Honestly they’re both amazing, the original was a tiny bit better though
I love how Rachelle showed what (for me) singing is all about: letting it all out. Her Eliza definitely just went through a whole therapy just by singing this one song.
They're both amazing... both of their acting is great, but why is nobody talking about the actual vocals?? Rachelle's is technically speaking better. Her tone is awesome and her control is amazing, plus she didn't get scratchy at the end😬
I think the scratchiness was purposeful. It's meant to portray Eliza's hurt and sadness as she's trying to keep it together. Like how your voice breaks when you cry. At some parts, it also means her anger starting to show even though she's trying to remain as calm and emotionless as possible.
The two actors show character throughout their voices, but you can notice the intensity in Rachelle's voice and you can notice the sadness in Phillpa's. The two queens are amazing and combined, they'd be unstoppable.
Alright alright like I love though that the two have such a different interpretation of Eliza? Phillipa has like...the broken heart and while she's still furious, it's more of the betrayal and sadness that bleeds through. With Rachelle she's fucking furious, but it's a quiet fury but the part that really had me like. Actually scared and like, oh fuck, Alex fucked up royally, was the moment her face just goes flat as she's reading the letter. She shut herself off and like, I don't know about y'all, but it just made me think of my mom and aunts and shit when they're really *really* angry. And it's like, there's a timebomb about to explode in there.
We cant really compare the two. They have both different identity for their character. Pippa is focusing on betrayal (sadness) while rachel focused on anger. Both are performed well.
(JUST MY OPINION I LOVE ALL CAST MEMBERS!)) Rachelle will always be one of my favorite Elizas of all time (probably just after Ari in all-time favoritism). Pippa has so much gorgeous emotion in her face, but in my opinion it only reads in her face, not her vocal inflections or body motions, and its subdued enough that you miss the emotion altogether in the shots that aren't close up. I feel like Rachelle sells this song much in all aspects; vocal inflects, body language, and bright, expressive, theatrical facial expressions. Just my opinion!!
I love Phillipa Soo’s version most because she portrays her innocence and longing for Alexander but is still devastated and confused and hurt. To me, her version goes through different stages of emotion which is really cool!
So much emotion from Rachelle , you can feel the raw emotion and anger . In Phillipas’ song you can still feel the subtle love she still feels for him but the anger and betrayal is clouding all the love. Both as amazing as each other

I like Rachelle Ann's sound. Philippa is very bland. her part in Hamilton is the weakest

Hahahaha rightttt
Agreed! Phillipa's Eliza seems hurt, Rachelle's Eliza seems angry. Love how the actors can completely change the tone of a play!
Im used to Philipa Soo’s version so when Rachelle Anne played it so unexpectedly different I got goosebumps like dang her version is really refreshing
They’re both great 👍 Rachelle played so unexpectedly ❤️
same
Literally same my goosbumps still haven't gone away
Omg me too XD

I feel like rachelle’s version is more like how Angelica would do it rather Eliza.
Same thoughts
Exactly! Eliza is "trusting and kind" which makes her reaction should be more of sad than anger. The anger side should belongs to someone "gossip and insidious" like Angelica.
Yep. "Congratulations" also conveys Angelica's anger really well too. She wouldn't hesitate to tear Alex to shreds in Burn and I'd be cheering her on.
Totally agree
I personally disagree because I've seen rachelle live and she plays eliza differently to Phillipa so her burn fits better with her version of eliza
In my opinion Phillipa's version is broken while Rachelle's is angry
Dane Aubrey Dela Torre true I like Rachelle’s version better tho
Phillipa is better
True, while i have an appreciation for how Philipa sings it, ill have to say I prefer Rachelle's version better because it shows Eliza's breaking point. It doesn't keep Eliza with the same sympathetic ways which in my opinion makes it better
This just goes to prove no one knows how eliza reacted, whether she was broken or angry. So we shouldn't really compare them because each of them saw eliza's reaction to this differently

Rachelle’s version shows Eliza’s anger
They’re both absolutely amazing!!!
Angel_playz 18 it would be perfect if they were combined that would be the perfect Eliza
Angel_playz 18 You’re totally right 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
And most of us would be both! Great performances!!
Kara Gavin thought that exact thing 😎 great minds think alike i guess :)
Yes I agree Phillipa was sad and forgiving and rachelle was angry they are both beautiful singers and both are wonderful in the role of Eliza

Rachelle is better than pippa.. its just original is original..😂
Ya same.
I agree with this! Like they say you never wanna see a sweet person get mad! They’ll surprised more sometimes
didn't think about this angle at all, and more makes me need to see the way Rachelle played the rest of the role as well as it's fantastic but I'm still picturing Phillipa's portrayal for the rest of the show which doesn't fit.
They were both so phenomenal, but I feel that phillipa’s version fits Eliza’s reserved and innocent personality better.
Philippa kept up Eliza’s personality staying in character. Rachelle showed Eliza breaking.
I feel like Rachelle did the same thing but portrayed the character at her breaking point. Her husband basically ignores her and their kids for a decade for his job. Then he not only has an affair but publishes it in the god damn paper. It's reasonable that she'd be angry and have had enough at that point.
... Go get my gun... burn...
In her married mind? umm, not innocent at all.
Rachelle's still good though.
It wasn't soon... their son had to die first :P
Fluttershy and Boopsy It had been years at that point before Eliza forgave him, so it still makes sense.
They're both great, its not comparable. Also, eliza and hamilton only spook after jr. died remember?
Forgiving someone is not easy to do and takes time.
Eliza forgives Alexander after 6 years...
If I was Alexander Hamilton, I wouldn’t show my face to Rachelle because I felt she would have been hell’s fury. Girl, I wouldn’t show up at your doorstep for fear of my life 😂
I mean.. if my mans cheat on me id be hell’s fury too
If I was Alexander I wouldn’t have cheated on Eliza in the first place 😂
Sometimes silence and calmness is more painful than fury, that's why I like Phillipa's version more, you can't see any emotions on her face yet you can feel her suffer and pain through her voice
Nothing is as scary as a woman scorned or something like that I cant remember the exact quote
@@Opal_Obsidian "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned."
Phillips Soo sounds so broken. You can hear and see: shock, denial, anger, bargaining, and depression in her performance. Rachelle Ann Go is very talented and expressed emotion in her performance. I enjoyed them both. I don't think I could choose.
The Reynolds pamphlet is the 1700’s version of tati’s cancelling James Charles video
Lol go off. Period.
shut up please
tea haahhhahahahh
LMFAO
that's how you break down this event to non hamilton fans
Rachelle was so intense! I love the anger and all the feelings she shows to us. But Phillipa borned to be Eliza. You can really feel the love she had for Alex and how her heart was broken.
They were amazing in their ways
Maybe Rachelle is born to be Gigi of Miss Saigon? Lol
You want to be my friend? because you understand me too well
Rachelle makes me feel angry at Hamilton with her while Phillipa makes me feel heartbroken and devastated with her.
Im Hungry ur right but voice wise or quality of voice and clarity , hands down Rachel wins 👍😁
Goosebumps for Rachel's performance.
In Rachelle's version, you can feel her pain first for th first few minutes then regret and distrust for a few seconds and then the growing anger after. She sounds like someone who wouldn't forgive her husband for six years.
I thought exactly the same!
and after the pause you can see her disgust 4:36
OMG THIS MAKES ME WANT TO SEE RACHELLE'S IT'S QUIET UPTOWN
I have to say Rachelle was good, but Phillipa Soo slayed it. She showed so much emotion but Rachelle stuck to mostly anger. I think the original Burn is supposed to show sadness and heartbreak while First Burn shows the anger. In First Burn, Rachelle was incredible because her anger was amazing. Phillipa was the original so she will always be the best I believe, even though they're all amazing. Phillipa has a very special place in the hearts of Hamilton Fans❤️❤️
Rachelle does anger so well.
True
LisiLisichan I’d be shaking if she yelled at me XD
Well said! So true :)
At this point im not sure haha if that happened to me, I would chase Alexander Hamilton with a .... 😂
@@CO-jr9er I can see where you're coming from, but Eliza's words and tone shows that she was trying to hold herself together to truly say what she meant, the song definitely does become more angry and less sophisticated towards the end, but she was (in my opinion) trying not to make herself vulnerable to him
At this point im not sure Thats the beauty of this song. It’s really just up to interpretation
At this point im not sure: Yesh Phillipa did it better and they shouldn’t put her against just “Eliza Schuyler” 😁
They are both SO incredible, but I always have to say that the original does it better. You can’t do it better than the og cause they make the song, in my opinion. Every next cast member has their own twist that makes the song their own and incredible, but to me Phillipa is the best! Just my opinion don’t murder me please XD
I agree with that 100%
For me it’s not quite that the original is better because they were first, it’s just that I listen to original soundtracks so much that other people don’t sound quite right because I’m not used to it. If I had heard a different version first, I would probably like that one more
ahhh heck ^^^
I agree!
Completely agree!
▪︎Vocally: Rachelle has a powerful voice compared to Phillipa; Phillipa has a soft and mellow voice.
▪︎Acting: Phillipa was calm and suave; Rachelle's expression was strong, and yet controlled
In short, these two people are VERY different from each other... talent, experience, etc.
So there is no way we could compare these very talented women.
i think phillipa is more like eliza because eliza was a gentle, caring soul but damn they are both fire!!
_.shamaris._ _.monena._ in all fairness, this is musical theatre. Eliza May have been quiet and reserved, but that doesn’t mean that she was a wallflower. After he husbands death, she explored his story. Her strength bares through in Rachelle’s telling. Of course, Phillipa, is amazing, but just wanted to shed a lot on a different perspective, since we have no idea how Eliza truly felt back then
I really like Rachelle's shifts between belting and head tones. So much control right there. I don't know, I just like her timbre.
Agreed,They both sound good same character, different voices, some different expressions and people compare them saying Rachelle is good but to compare to the original person who played Eliza is kinda messed up
Philipa's is sad...like she's given up. Rachelle's sounds like she's angry. They are both amazing in their own ways :)
I prefer phillipa soo, somehow her voice suits me better and how she sings
It also fits Eliza’s quiet and compassionate personality more imo
It’s because she’s the OG, and we have been listening to her voice for so long, ofc it will sound better
Exactly
Same
I always love Philippa’s voice.
Rachelle just has such a passion and anger in her voice that is so raw and relatable
period. vocally philippa wont have a chance
antonio lunaxx I agree, but emotionally I think that Philippa pulled through, while Rachelle stuck to anger Philippas voice still showed that she still loves Hamilton, and had sick a broken feel. But, what you think is what you think I’m not trying to cause a fight :)
Acting aside, rachelle's voice is remarkable
People saying that Rachelle's version was angry, I don't think so. Yeah, it was angry in a way, but it was hurting angry, sad angry, not just angry angry. It's like that's the only way to release her emotions without anymore crying.
Rachelle did a better job at burning the paper though HAHAHAHHAHA
yes, I agree, Rachelle did better, burning that paper. hahahaha
Lols
True dat.
Haha made my day. Noticed that too
Cara Pierce lol😂😂😂
why ya'll judging?
they both acted the same woman correctly and perfectly.
Nobody is judging
nobody is judging, it's more like comparing them and saying their opinions.
Who tf is judging?
I see only people pointing out each vers strong points, difference and eacb of its beauty
both of them sound incredible. however, the original will always have a special place in my heart and in my opinion, nothing will compare to the original. every time i listen to original (phillipa’s version) i get goosebumps because of how incredible it is.
whilst rachelle is absolutely incredible and has an amazing voice, the original will always be better in my opinion :)
Same I feel like the original has the cracked/raspy with still sounding sweet and calm
Exactly
you don’t go burning letters calm and composed.
Overall they’re both great
okay sorry but like bakugo uwu
I’m a big Rachel Ann Go fan, but PhilippA’s version is perfect for Elizas character.
To be honest... They're incomparable... Because they have completely different interpretations... Philipa has a more mature, mother like internaly contained anger and disappointment.... While Rachel has more of an outward anger... That being said, I kind of prefer Philip's version just a little bit... I can't explain why...
But again... To make it clear... They're both amazing performers
Tomaž Golub philips
Tomaž Golub yup I agree but quality of voice and clarity I will say Rachel wins it
@WellFishSticks lmao, I can't.... XD
@WellFishSticks lmAO
Ham fans, we should make some noise for a cast recording of west end hamilton!
If you mixed Phillipa and Rachelle’s versions it would be absolutely perfect
OMG YES
Have you listened to “First Burn”? I think it captures both
@@madelynybarra5872 yes very true but I mean rachelle is already in that one and Phillipa isn’t
Phillipa would be the Cleaned Historical depictions while Rachelle's would be the actual event of what happen..
I like Phillipa’s version more. She fit that character so well. Rachelle did an amazing job but Phillipa’s version started off very quiet then she had a lot of passion at the end. Rachelle was very passionate throughout the whole thing, which is fine haha. But I just like Phillipa’s version more
I agree!
I preferred Rachelle ann go
Her voice has more passion.
I prefer rachelle ann go is better its just the original matters always
Rachelle also started sad I the beginning and angry in the end
i saw hamilton in london last night (for the second time) and both times, Rachelle played Eliza. last time, i was sat far back so it was a good vocal performance, but i was too shocked by the entire show to focus on her overall performance. last night, her performance from vocals to facial expressions was beyond amazing. i have never felt so emotional by hearing someone sing with such passion (afterall i am only 16 so i have not experienced love or anything like eliza has). i sat in the second row, so i could see the pain in her expression and the way she sang “you” (you know the part),. i was literally trying to hold back the tears. love Phillipa Soo too, but Rachelle absolutely killed it yesterday 👏
The "you, you you" has always been one of my favourite parts of Burn, due to the contempt and anger. Alex has so often only thought of himself, and not how his actions will affect his wife & children. The public humiliation of it all.
Omg I saw hamilton in London in 2018 for the first time. I hope I can see it in New York City as well
I cried when i saw it on TV with Philipa-Soo, my wife cheated on me and it just hit home.
I want a recording of the British cast just so I can have an official version of rachelle’s Burn cause it’s phenomenal
I have such a soft spot for Pippa though.
in their house, in their bed ....
he's lucky she just burned the letters.
@@AnHeC she was angry obviously bc he cheated
@@AnHeC would you remain sweet and kind had you found out you were cheated on? 🤷🏻♀️
@@AnHeC more reason for her to go ballistic esp that she's been sweet and kind. everybody has limits
philipa’s version will always have a special place in my heart, but i’m more in love w/ first burn and i feel rachelle’s version rlly gets across what i feel in the song - the visceral, raw, wild, pain, soaring out of her. it gave me goosebumps
To be honest, I prefer Rachelle's version because of all the emotion in her voice, but both of them are amazing!
ya, but in phillipas voice she sounds more hurt. but i do agree, except i like phillipa a little better. but i don’t mean any harm! tbh they’re very hard to compare i love them both.
Both did good either way.
rachelle has this "Cry" in her voice.
OMG Rachelle's version is sooooo powerful damn girl!! Phillipa's is just as powerful as well!!! I felt the pain in both Eliza's voices.😍
Philipa- like
Rachel- comment
My opinion: Philipa
sad
Hahaha rachelle is better..that fuck is that philippa is the original
@@joshuaalcobar1480 HEY I THINK IT'S PRETTY MEAN AND ACTUALLY HER NAME IS PHILLIPA NOT PHILIPPA
I love Rachel's version. Her facial expressions, voice and gestures. Perfect!
I love them both but I can’t stop hearing Rachel’s British accent when she sings
Dwight K. Schrute and to think she’s not even British and has only been in the UK since Ma Saigon’s 25th anniv revival
It would be accurate to the time period though. Most people in the US still had that British accent around that time.
Rachelle Ann Go isn't even British -- she's Filipino! I seriously love her and Leah Salonga, their accents are always versatile with their roles.
Emma Best the british accent was around way before the american accent ??
I don't hear it
With Phillipa I cried, with Rachelle I cried. That's enough for me lol both are spectacular
I am a bit biased: the first time I saw Hamilton was in Disney+ with the original cast. And the soundtrack recording is the original cast as well. I was so used to Phillipa that when Rachelle started singing, I was like, “Hang on, that’s not how it’s supposed to sound!” But then later at the end of the song I was like, “Wow, she’s awesome!” I can now say that both the women sang “Burn” beautifully and are both amazing as Eliza!!
don’t get me wrong, i absolutely adore the og, but i feel like rachel’s was more of a hurt and anger feel than philipa. hers was more innocent and sad
Philipa's suits Eliza's personality more.
@@Deangers1 I think Rachelle fit it better.
She put more emotion in it, Philipa have a great voice but I didn't feel the emotions and the expression.
Ofc, it's about opinions, but Rachelle did it better, for me.
Philipa did great too for the voice, tho.
@@Asia-zd1rg I agree
One thing I really love about Philipa-Soo's version is this moment of yearning and affection on the repeated "you(s)" which then is held for a moment and then gives way to the heartbreaking realization that she must "(erase herself) from the narrative..." It's so incredibly subtle but unbelievably nuanced and heartbreaking...
People get attached to whoever originated the role like Phillipa Soo as Eliza. But just telling the truth when I say that Rachelle Ann Go is ust vocally superior imo. She even got the emotional details of the song, ex. you really feel her scorn when she sung you, you, you...
philippa still the best
i got goosebumps in rachelle singig this songs yeab she nailed it
Seen Rachelle twice; vocally she stands out, even though the entire West End cast was immense. Just a stunning voice, and will be missed 🥺
@@Mel-me9sw But we don't really know for sure how the real Eliza was so there's room for both interpretations.
Phillipa resonates with the song Burn perfectly as it shows sadness while
Rachel Ann resonates with the cut song "First Burn" as it gives the feeling of anger more
Rachelle....chills....chills
As the second stage of grief is...ANGERRRR

The original has a special place in all of our hearts, but you need to remember that the new broadway cast are doing just an amazing job with everyone. Most of us haven't seen or heard the show with Rachelle, and we're attatched to Phillipa as Eliza.
I just subscribed to Rachelle Ann Go’s channel. That’s literally the best interpretation of that song I’ve ever heard in my life. It was the MOST!!!
My cousin was just eating her donut and saying Mmm and smiling and dancing when Rachelle was singing...not even caring about the song
*.Itz_Gacha Summer.* ok mood but yea lmao
Okay but why
Their both amazing 💙 But I think Philippa fits Eliza's personality better
I'll go for Rachelle clear voice also gaving roller coaster emotion
I love them both of Rachelle’s gave me chills
if you were to ask me who I would promote, Pippa has my vote!
They're both amazing tho.
@@kaurao she is alone in that moment.
it wasn't suppose to be emotionless...
@@Asia-zd1rg I know but I think the song shows that she's trying to remain that way but she's breaking
Preach 🙌
@@Asia-zd1rg okie not emotionless but trying to somewhat keep composure and not completely lash out
The two actors show character throughout their voices, but you can notice the intensity in Rachelle's voice and you can notice the sadness in Phillpa's.
And it's like, there's a timebomb about to explode in there.
what i read "alright alright" i thought u were going to reference Hamilton and say "alright alright that's what I'm talking about!"
Can't even compare. Both sounded beautiful
rachelle’s gave me goosebumps her voice is so powerful 😳💜
Saw Rachaelle in London last year and was amazing! So so emotive and sounds so much better in real life 💕
We cant really compare the two. They have both different identity for their character. Pippa is focusing on betrayal (sadness) while rachel focused on anger. Both are performed well.
(JUST MY OPINION I LOVE ALL CAST MEMBERS!))
Rachelle will always be one of my favorite Elizas of all time (probably just after Ari in all-time favoritism).
Straight to the point Rachel an Go deliver perfectly the character she portray. That's all thank you!
Wow I'd never heard of Rachelle but that was amazing. Now I want to see the whole show with her!

I love Phillipa Soo’s version most because she portrays her innocence and longing for Alexander but is still devastated and confused and hurt. To me, her version goes through different stages of emotion which is really cool!
I think Rachelle did a lot of voice dynamics here (as she always does). Her voice is more powerful than Phillipa, so you who's my winner. :)

rachelle ann go was my eliza when i saw the show and tbh i don’t think i’ve ever cried harder lmao
They were both good! I can’t decide! I’m just happy to see more Asians on broadway. Philippa is half Chinese and Rachelle is Filipino
So much emotion from Rachelle , you can feel the raw emotion and anger . In Phillipas’ song you can still feel the subtle love she still feels for him but the anger and betrayal is clouding all the love. Both as amazing as each other
Love them both. Great song, great singers, both in their own way. Could listen to it all day.
