Speaking of Codemasters, Colin McRae rally series back in the days (maybe RBR also) are truly remarkable for the realistic rally stage setups, Sega Rally seems too simple for that, just like a rally equivalent of OutRun
Sega's story is riddled with right thing, wrong time. When Revo was released, the video game industry was all about realism, realism, realism. Releasing a game that focused more on arcade action was a death sentence at that time, especially at a $60 price point. For a lower price, and released now, I bet Revo could have done fairly well for itself.
Sega Lord X, thank you for a great job with your last video. I actually owned Sega Rally on both my PS3 and the PSP systems I owned. Thank you for a great trip down memory lane! Excellent work as usual.👍
Good review! I never played Sega Rally, but I do remember seeing it back in the arcades in the '90s. The games were very beautiful! I actually don't mind simple, arcadey racing as sometimes you just want to play something where you just take to the track for an adrenaline rush with no extra frills! It is a shame that the Sega Rally series petered out and also the closing of Sega Racing Studio. I feel like studios just come and go in the modern gaming industry. It seems like there are just higher stakes in modern game development since many titles are bigger budget and it takes longer for a game to be released. I still think there is a market for simple, fast arcade racing games for those of us who grew up with them during the '90s!
Sega Rally was one of those iconic games. One of the few racing games where you could truly get into the zone & be "at one" with your car. As students we played the Saturn port relentlessly - shaving hundreds of a second off our times, learning every single nuance of every track, every gear shift, every undulation .Pure racing joy. Like so many Sega classic racing titles every single course is carefully crafted & every corner is memorable (and therefore an event!) Speaking of which the Saturn port is a masterpiece of coding - just pure sorcery to run that well on the system and still ultra responsive & playable today. I have the arcade port that came with the 2006 PS2 release but the Saturn version just has a certain something about it. Played SR3 at an arcade show thinking it was probably going to be Revo but in an arcade cabinet & was blown away by the difference. Truly a lovely surprise. Glad I downloaded the Online Arcade version for pure arcade thrills. Always feels that it was a little misunderstood at its time of release. People seemed to want sim racers or to be able to tune their cars & customise the paint job etc but there is always a place for pure arcade racing. Game Over Yeah!
Man, I was just playing this earlier. Picked this up for PC from the clearance bin at Big Lots in like 2010 or so, but the DRM makes it so I have to keep a WinXP machine alive just to play it.
My favorite rally game, even over SR and SR2. The gameplay is fun, Ai challenging, theres a ton of Championships to do, and tons to unlock. Shame it didnt get the love it deserved!
I'm glad you pointed out the difference in the camera for Sega Rally 3. I know people notice it, but people forget to point it out sometimes, especially if they end up liking it. I hate it. It makes my eyes and brain very unhappy, and I'm not exaggerating. I'm not especially prone to motion sickness, but I think I'd get a bad case of it if I spent more than a few minutes with the game. It feels to me like I'm making the world spin instead of controlling the car. The looser camera is what I'd call a proper chase camera as it follows the track. For me it's a lot more natural. I think the developers of the earlier games like Daytona USA and Sega Rally understood that the camera locked to the car would be unpleasant for many people, and later developers didn't really know that, at least consciously. Would be cool if that was an option.
Also just wanted to add, if I ever get enough money together I would love a duo cabinet for racing games. I know Extreme arcade cabinets makes these kinda of stuff, but it's quite expensive for me. But one day I might get it. For now I just want a arcade cabinet. The Arcades just felt different compared to playing at home. As you said, you have to pirate the games...yet I think if Sega made home arcades with their games on it, I think it would sell pretty well depending on the costs of course. A console now cost around 500-600 and then the games. An Arcade with screen and everything with around 2500 games cost you around 1500. If Sega ever do that I think they would be surprised on how many they would sell.
SR Revo is the first game I have memories of playing. It was available at a PS3 at a supermarket I went to when I was around 4 or 5 years old and they let people play on it to make them interested on the platform, and it was love at first sight for me. I vividly remember repeatedly begging my parents to take me there so I could play it. I was so sad to find out that the Steam release got delisted when I got a PC. Getting it through the high seas nowadays is no biggie but they should bring this back so more people can know it exists.
Absolutely love this game. Still one of my top 10 games on the Xbox 360 (not, RACING games, ALL games!) and I have a still have a copy on my shelf. I remember all the reviews here in the UK being pretty stellar - Eurogamer gave it a 9/10. Anyone complaining about the lack of realism was missing the point - it's an arcade game and it doesn't need tuning and set-up options! It's all about the gameplay and in that area it excelled. Would happily still play it today if it worked in backwards compatability.
interesting things. It happens that you start to be interested in something and this something starts to come across to you more often... not only as TH-cam recommendations, but also as people you follow. literally a couple of weeks ago the rally era began in my life. the streamer I watch started playing rally, I started playing rally on PS1, and at the same time I looked at what was there on Sega. now you are releasing a video about this topic) on PS1 there were arcade and realistic ones, and the rallies from Sega were all arcade, but I was still thinking about playing them) and literally 2 hours ago I discovered this game for the first time 0:15. I hope the series will live on and make more realistic games. after all, not every Sega series survived the default
I had Sega Rally on Xbox 360 here in the UK. But the revo name was dropped over here. Tough game and a shame that studio was shut down. A modern Sega GT would have been cool.
I bounced right off Sega Rally on 360 when I first tried it, but once you get to grips (no pun intended) with the bizarre handling model, it's a terrific racer. Really underrated.
> SEGA Rally Revo video Oh, cool, time to check it out- > Sega Rally Revo, Sega Rally 3, and Sega Rally Online Arcade all in one video. LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO EVERYONE IS HERE Even though all of the entries are buried under the legal issue of the car licenses used which is why they have been forgotten by the mainstream audience, this one has been the most forgotten out of all three despite being the most modern and having spent a fair amount of time in Steam's catalog. I can't wait to see how you break down what both Revo and the also forgotten SR3/OA brought to the table.
I actually got Sega Rally Revo pretty soon after I got my PSP this summer and man I've loved playing it. It's such a fun racer and I'm so sad that the game didn't perform well commercially. It's truly one of Sega's swan songs of their traditional racers, as mostly everything going forward is Sonic All Stars Racing. I hope that if Sega is willing to go back to these series in the future, that they stick with the gameplay that made them so beloved in the first place, but make them the most content rich games they could be. I bet that could probably be an amazing success for them
Back then I have played it like a crazy, despite having PC that barely ran it. And very recently I came back to it. I've spent a few evenings with it, had some good time. Even if mostly nostalgic, it's still decent arcade rally racing.
I never really bothered with the console/pc version much in the past as I always enjoyed it more as a psp game, but after recently picking up a Thrustmaster TX and digging out my old pc copy after watching this video, I'm having an absolute blast playing it! Cheers SLX ^_^ Also one thing I noticed is that when using a wheel the third person camera is pretty much identical to the stiff arcade camera, and very different to the loose camera when using a keyboard or controller. Just thought I'd mention this as I don't think it was brought up in the video.
I think over the years since Sega has become third party many of their games that haven't been Sonic (and now Yakuza) just seemed to have gotten lost in the shuffle and possibly would have been noticed and praised more of they were on a Sega console where they would have stood out a bit more. These days as a result they seem very unlikely to release games that aren't Sonic, Yakuza, Total War, Football Manager and Shin Megami Tensai games and games that are made with their old franchises tend to be done by third parties and usually Sega doesn't even publish them. It's a shame because after the Dreamcast died they actually made some great games for each of the three consoles that generation that would have been a great collection if they were on a Sega system.
Just want to mention that the japanese version of Sega Rally Revo (atleast the ps3) has the fixed camera position such as sega rally 3 incase you did not know this yet.
Just got this game for ps3! I am a huge racing game fan and the controls for this one were a bit difficult but I'm enjoying it! 90's arcade fun is the best way to describe it!
I realy enjoy Sega Rally Revo on my PSP. One of my favorite racing games. Once a year i finish the game just for fun. It's so simple and relaxing just pickup and play some tracks.
I found the 360 version of revo second hand and cheap a few years back before I was much of a sega fan, I had a pretty decent time and even had some fun playing it with my sisters. It's nice to see this game get more coverage, I might have to give it another play some time
I played revo on my then gaming pc. Being a racing games fan and an avid sega rally player back in the arcades, I was really hyped. Having a gtx8800 ultra allowed me to enjoy the crisp graphics in all of their glory. They had an artistic flair and a distinct charm, while the terrain deformation and the piling of mud really stole the show for me. Unfortunately, moving past the scenery, the game proved to be an unremarkable, short term rush, unable to compete with its major contemporaries and falling short on most aspects of the ever growing racing standards. I really wanted to like it, but I ended up deleting it after a couple of days. Honestly, it was no surprise thay it marked the series' end. It was nice coming back to it through this video, though and that's why we dig segalord x ✊️
I have the PS3 version of Sega rally revo and could never fully get the hang of it. I still like the way it looks and am glad to have any Sega rally game on PS3 at all. I enjoyed the video and wish i could play some of the older sega rally games. Thanks for the look
Loved every Sega Rally title , it was a magic time for video games when the focus was pure fun & entertainment. Something missing from many recent titles. I’ve got so many Sega/Namco arcade ports on my PS3 it’s like a arcade in the home 😎👌

Nice review. I’ve played sega rally 1 and 2 but never even heard of revo. Luckily the game is super cheap so I’m just gonna pick it up now and try it out. I loved my Saturn and Dreamcast ports so hopefully I’ll love this.
@11:28... TIP: The outside camera in Revo will act like the arcade if you use the steering wheel. When using the controller the camera will show the car turning. 😊 You're welcome
I bought Sega Rally online arcade on PS3, when it was available on PSN in 2011. I though it was pretty decent, but I haven't ever played it nearly as much as Sega Rally 1 and 2. Those two were really special, cutting-edge games in the '90s. The racing genre moved forward so much during the '00s and there was much more competition, so the later Sega Rallys didn't stand out in the same way.
I still feel very lucky to have gotten the last key code I could find online for Sega Rally Online Arcade. And while Revo didn't feel right on console to me, the PSP game is one of my all time favorite racers.
Sega Rally Revo is one of my favorite racing games of all time - probably in my top 3 along with Wipeout 3 Special Edition and Wave Race 64, and just ahead of games like Ridge Racer Type 4, Outrun 2006, Burnout 3 Takedown, and the original Sega Rally. What I look for in a racing game is speed, precise controls, fun and style. I want to spend my time on the track, not in menus tuning and tweaking. Sega Rally Revo delivers exactly what I want and does it better than pretty much any other game out there. The perfect "last hurrah" for old-school arcade racing. I've seen many complaints that it's too hard to control - the steering is twitchy and the grip loose - and yes, it takes a bit getting used to but once you do, the feeling of intense speed combined with just barely being able to maintain perfect control of your car is absolutely unmatched.
Finally Sega Lord X is covering a game I worked on! Despite hooking up the achievements for Sega Rally Online, I could never legitimately unlock Lakeside and had to rely on the Dev commands 😅.

It’s a lot of fun with a Logitech wheel. I have the PS3 version. It’s hard as hell though but I still have fun with it. I expected an arcade racer, and that’s exactly what I got so I wasn’t disappointed.
Another great video mate much appreciated. I still play Revo on my PSP Go it's far from perfect but a good time killer having a run around the tracks.
I loved Sega Rally Revo! I loved all the Sega Rally games. I spent so much time on all of them, couldn't get enough haha..
SLX is hands-down, the best retro gaming channel. Another in-depth beauty.
No, My Life in Gaming is better
Man i miss old school racing games like this
Many of the people behind this went to Playground Games and you see the DNA of these games in the Forza Horizon series. Most recent Rally Adventure expansion for Forza Horizon 5 is the closest thing we'll get to a SEGA Rally.
@@nrXic Really, thats crazy i didn't know that
@@nrXicA lot also went back to Codemasters. DiRT Showdown could also be said to show some of that DNA, though ultimately DiRT Rally became the end-goal passion project.
Seeing how you just released this today and how many views it already has shows the love for this game.
Thats the average views for most of his videos anyway. Dont act like its something groundbreaking. Hes been doing videos for years, so views like this are not surprising
Youre an average beta @@Blueflag04
Speaking of Codemasters, Colin McRae rally series back in the days (maybe RBR also) are truly remarkable for the realistic rally stage setups, Sega Rally seems too simple for that, just like a rally equivalent of OutRun
Sega's story is riddled with right thing, wrong time. When Revo was released, the video game industry was all about realism, realism, realism. Releasing a game that focused more on arcade action was a death sentence at that time, especially at a $60 price point.
For a lower price, and released now, I bet Revo could have done fairly well for itself.
Spot on, it's ashame that gameplay nearly takes the lowest priority nowadays, and even back then obviously.
It's the only Sega Rally I've ever been good at. Quite a good game. Sega when they feel like it make arcade racers that just look amazing and fun.
My favorite Sega Rally!!! So good 😁
Having the worst weeks of my life and wanted to say your YT ch is amazing and keeping me sane rn 💪🏁
Sega Lord X, thank you for a great job with your last video. I actually owned Sega Rally on both my PS3 and the PSP systems I owned. Thank you for a great trip down memory lane! Excellent work as usual.👍
Thanks!
You bet!
Interesting when people say 'lack of tuning options and realism' as a bad tbing. For me that immediately gets a thumbs up 😂
I love Sega Rallye Revo, SOOOO underrated
Sega Rally was one of those iconic games. One of the few racing games where you could truly get into the zone & be "at one" with your car. As students we played the Saturn port relentlessly - shaving hundreds of a second off our times, learning every single nuance of every track, every gear shift, every undulation .Pure racing joy. Like so many Sega classic racing titles every single course is carefully crafted & every corner is memorable (and therefore an event!)
Speaking of which the Saturn port is a masterpiece of coding - just pure sorcery to run that well on the system and still ultra responsive & playable today.
I've already watched this 3 times. I love your work man
Man, I was just playing this earlier. Picked this up for PC from the clearance bin at Big Lots in like 2010 or so, but the DRM makes it so I have to keep a WinXP machine alive just to play it.
Get a no-cd patch. That will fix it.
My favorite rally game, even over SR and SR2. The gameplay is fun, Ai challenging, theres a ton of Championships to do, and tons to unlock. Shame it didnt get the love it deserved!
I had this game on 3 platforms and loved it so much
The PSP version of this game looked incredible for a handheld game. It's the version I played the most.
Same, great for pick up & play quick blasts
5:00 was mind blowing to me when I first saw it!
Great review /summary I enjoyed this video very much. Loved revo on my 360
I'm glad you pointed out the difference in the camera for Sega Rally 3.
2006 is still my favorite entry in the series
Another wonderful video! Great job!
Great video SLX. The game captures look phenomenal. 👍
I tried Sega Rally 3 recently on Teknoparrot , what a game! I remember a ps3 conversion years ago.
Much Love for the walk back down memory lane.
Always a good day when Sega lord x releases a new video!
All I remember is the one for Sega Saturn. Man it took up a lot of my time.
I had this game on 360 when i was seven and it looks just as good as I remember. I loved this game.
interesting things.
I wish Sega would release a compilation of all the great Model board games, amazing memories.Sega Rally is one of the greatest arcade racers
I had Sega Rally on Xbox 360 here in the UK. But the revo name was dropped over here.
Tough game and a shame that studio was shut down. A modern Sega GT would have been cool.
I still play Sega Rally from time to time.
I got it on pc in 2010 and it is still my one of my most favourite arcade racers. I replay it every year and psp version occasionally.
Thanks for preserving and honoring video game lore
I didn’t see the video and just got my like!!! Sega Racing games are the Best of the Best!!! Thanks to make this video!!!
You just reminded of this game, so I checked our local online marketplace and found a mint CiB copy for PS3 for $4. Hooray! Thanks dude.
I bounced right off Sega Rally on 360 when I first tried it, but once you get to grips (no pun intended) with the bizarre handling model, it's a terrific racer. Really underrated.
> SEGA Rally Revo video
Oh, cool, time to check it out-
> Sega Rally Revo, Sega Rally 3, and Sega Rally Online Arcade all in one video.
LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO EVERYONE IS HERE
Even though all of the entries are buried under the legal issue of the car licenses used which is why they have been forgotten by the mainstream audience, this one has been the most forgotten out of all three despite being the most modern and having spent a fair amount of time in Steam's catalog. I can't wait to see how you break down what both Revo and the also forgotten SR3/OA brought to the table.
Great video! I wish Sega would give Rally another shot but go all out!
I bet that could probably be an amazing success for them
I don't know man, sometimes you just want to turn on your PC and embrace the simplicity of arcade games like this one.
Cheers SLX ^_^
Also one thing I noticed is that when using a wheel the third person camera is pretty much identical to the stiff arcade camera, and very different to the loose camera when using a keyboard or controller.
I did not. Thank you.
the crazy part was how long they took to get rid of the arcade timer even on the home consoles. Sega reallu messed up alor of games doing this
Just got this game for ps3! I am a huge racing game fan and the controls for this one were a bit difficult but I'm enjoying it! 90's arcade fun is the best way to describe it!
Absolutely LOVE sega rally revo. Still holds superbly well on PC. Pure fun.
There is t nearly enough love for this game! Have it on PC, 360, ps3, and psp!
Loved every Sega Rally title , it was a magic time for video games when the focus was pure fun & entertainment. Something missing from many recent titles. I’ve got so many Sega/Namco arcade ports on my PS3 it’s like a arcade in the home 😎👌
Awesome video!
absolutely loved this game!!! hope they remaster or remake the series!!
sega rally games are always a bomb. i ve played most of them, even arcade. i´m still on fire. codemasters dirt series is very similar and i love dirt too.
I absolutely love Sega rally Revo, still to this day no other racing game has track deformation like this game.
They was no game like this for a 12 year old me the mud effects and physics where something truly special even now
loved and still love sega rally and its "simplicity"...sure hope Over Jump Rally will bring back some arcade racing
Excellent vidéo
I played this game on the X360 and loved it. If only they'd make a sequel or a remake...
I love all the sega rally games,
Sega rally 3 runs quality on teknoparrot
Cool video 👍
Cool vid. I have never played the games after Sega Rally 2. They look fun.👍😎
