So so glad the Luke betrayal wasn’t spoiled for you at any point! One of the best scenes of the first book and I love what they did with it on the show.
This episode proves the old adage “There are no small parts” correct. Lance Reddick even with limited screen time made for an amazing and intimidating Zeus. RIP to an absolute legend. The ultimate betrayal was handled great with the flashbacks to Luke and Percy training making you think they were just there to understand how Percy was able to take on Ares. Absolute favorite part has to go to Percy’s short but sweet conversation with Poseidon on his relationship with Sally. No words but Toby Stephens conveyed so much in just a look before sending Percy away. Overall a fantastic season, great reaction as always Chainsaw, and here’s hopefully to many future seasons to come… 🔱
Tbh I prefer this interaction between Percy and Poseidon in the show. In the book basically the first thing he said to his son was he wasn’t supposed to be born
Luke's face when he realizes Annabeth heard everything and is not on his side 💔 all i can hear in my head is his voice saying "she is my little sister..." over and over and over
I couldn't wait to see Luke's betrayal in live-action. It truly was probably the coldest and most shocking moment of the book. Hope they can do a season 2 and further beyond, because it's an understatement to say the chaos is just getting started.
As a book reader, i also really enjoyed the show. I think they changed only what was necessary to make it a good adaptation. It definitely stays loyal to the themes, characters, relationships, and main plot. LOVED luke and poseidons actors performances in this episode. When toby stephens turned up on screen, stopping zeus from striking Percy i audibly gasped
💯 They did amazing with this show! 😍😍 I grew up reading the books completely understand and accept the changes made! It was necessary, as TV and books are two different mediums. The others are being too bias towards the book and are being WAY too nit picky, to the point it’s actually starting to piss me off. 🙄 Trying to ignore them, though and only putting out positive vibes for the show! 💙💙 I’m so ready for The Sea of Monters! 😍😍😍🤩🤩 Edit: Spelling
Completely agree :0 I loved the book for years and reread them just before the serie started and I think they did a really good job. It wasn't perfect, of course but the changes just added more depth to characters that were already great so I honestly feel that people that hate on the serie just thought that they would've made the show 100% accurate (wich is impossible)
I love your reaction to the Luke betrayal! That was the same reaction that I had when I read The Lightning Thief in elementary school. It got me hooked on Percy Jackson. The show clearly did justice to the iconic betrayal and I couldn’t be happier! Can’t wait for season two! ❤❤❤ Edit: Luke is my favorite character in the book series! I get goosebumps in episode two when Luke immediately befriends Percy just to betray him.
Fun Fact: In the books, Percy was (IIRC) actually caught off-guard with Luke's betrayal because Percy tried to rationalize Ares' betrayal as being betrayed by one who called him a friend.
Yea but that really didn't make sense because Percy hated him from the get go That what was always weird about the first book the kids are idiots and genius base on how they felt
Honestly my favorite episode this season. And to your point at the end, regarding Medusa's head and Gabe, in the books he's revealed at the end of Lightning Theif (book 1) to be abusive, both to Percy AND Sally. Percy knows the head was sent back and offers it to Sally as a way to get out of her marriage, since she only married Gabe to protect Percy. We do discover, either at the end of book 1 or the beginning of book 2, that Sally does infact use Medusa's head and creates a "statue" and sells it, using that money to get a new apartment and start taking some college classes, something she never got to finish. But Medusa is not really brought up again, tho they could go a different route in the show.
I too never read the books, but overall I quite enjoyed this more faithful adaptation of *Percy Jackson and the Olympians* as the cast is pretty great and I like the worldbuilding throughout all 8 episodes
Fun book Fact: Luke's Sword, "Backbiter", I made with both Celestial Bronze (The material for most Demigod weapons, including Percy's Sword "Riptide") and Steel, which allows him to kill both magical beings and mortals.
I'm so excited to see reactions to Luke's betrayal. The book readers knowing it's coming and still the spins off the original story shocks us. Annabeth wasn't there when Luke revealed himself in the books and tried to kill percy. But here, she feels the weight of his betrayal by witnessing it herself, and having to keep quiet until she *needed* to interfere to save Percy. Fun fact: the dagger annabeth throws is the one Luke gave her when they met on the run.
I'm a huge Fringe fan so seeing Lance as Zeus made me genuinely emotional. It's such a shame he passed before the show aired but what a performance to go out on. I hope Disney cuts back on the deepfakes because I feel like it'd be more respectful for this episode to carry the legacy of his final appearance. He was fantastic
Disney will probably recast him. Gods can change forms however they please, so... but it's truly a shame, he did amazing as Zeus. He brought all of the emotions that the character evokes really well
I love in the show how they stressed how cruel and negligent the gods are, while in the books this wasn't really stressed until later in the series. It makes Luke a much more understandable character and more a tragic villain like he is meant to be. I am forever a luke stan, i don't agree with him but I sure as hell understand him, and I love the way he was portrayed in s1.
Yes I love how they didn't shy away from that, and also how awkward the gods can be with their kids. They're all powerful and immortal beings but suck at parenting, which makes sense considering the generational trauma which is so well portrayed in Hades and Zeus's reaction to Percy even mentioning Kronos, Hades' demeanor COMPLETELY changed the moment Percy brought him up, which is understandable since he was literally eaten by him😭
A funny thing I noticed is that it was here the show really was compensating for Walker's growth spurt, keeping him away from Clarisse (where it apprantly was the most noticeable) and trying different angles when he and Annabeth were in a scene (like even when they hugged at the end, they made sure Grover started it so you wouldn't notice they are the same height now). So I read the books so knew the Luke reveal, but to see it more dramatically done, and a little harsher from Luke's angle is the Lightning Theif musical (which I so could see elements of here) but its usually just in bootleg.
As someone who read the books but doesn’t remember much, I thought this was great! Really hope it gets renewed! I wasn’t familiar with any of the actors aside from like 4, but everyone was fantastic! Especially Lance, he had such a perfect presence for Zeus, even though we got him for a few minutes. The one big criticism I have is that action scenes, as cool as they are, were all really short. When they ended the previous episode on Ares, I expected that to go longer than like 2 minutes. But still, great first season and hopefully we get more.
We see more of Grover's quest for Pan in The Sea of Monsters and The Battle of the Labyrinth with Grover finally finding Pan with the help of Percy, Annabeth, Tyson, Rachel Elizabeth Dare and Nico di Angelo in the latter book. Grover's search is on hold during The Titan's Curse because he was sent to find more demigods instead, but Pan sends Grover a giant boar to help him and speaks directly to Grover.
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! really hoping we get season 2, and all 5 seasons honestly cause this season is very contained and introductory compared to the rest of the series. like stuff gets CRAZY in the story, really excited for us to get a season 2 and also for your subsequent reactions!
Yeah Luke seems almost uni dimensional but slowly over the course of the books you get to see a little bit of him and in book 5 it finally makes sense why he is the way he is.
The thing about the pacing is that they could have made one more ep to fit everything perfectly, and Im not saying this out of greed, it just makes sense We spent only 3/4 of an episode in camp, there should have been more screentime on that place because its one of the key parts of the worldbuilding. They could have shown us the different cabins of the children of the gods, their particullar skills (in fact that would have been great for the montage of percy failing at things) and the different creatures/places of the camp (something like when harry sees howarts the first time). We would spendvan entire episode inside camp and then the quest starts There are several things that are omitted here, for example demigods have dislexia bc their brains are programmed to read greek, and the adhd is their battle instincts. Also in the books they explain that percy's mom was with gabe bc his smell covered them from monsters, I feel like those are important parts of the lore
Minor spoilers Book 2 has less gods:Dionysus Hermes,Ares,Posiedon and Athena. We don't visit Olympus in book 2,so it would be Season 3 when we get a Divine Council scene.
@@ChainsawReacts I get that. I'm just amused that you thought it was a fakeout, considering I've seen other reactors that haven't read the books and they didn't think it was a fakeout. Seems like you were expecting the show to pull a fast one on you immediately after they ALREADY pulled a fast one on you LOL
Personally, I thought it was just the right length. But then again, I've never agreed with the criticism that the fight scenes are too short. I prefer my action short and sweet.
What did you all think of the finale?
A great season finale, and a great series we definitely need more seasons
It was awesome
my favourite episode and in spirit so true to the books *chef's kiss*
it was AWESOME, I NEED MORE. HOPING 4 MORE SEASONS
Love it!!! Loved the whole season!

fun fact in the books Poseidon calls Sally a queen among women
I was hoping he said when they were talking. I was disappointed he didn’t. But I did like the scene overall
@@Kately-fg3sothat silence with that look in his eyes, it was so much better.
I guess Rick considered if he said that, Poseidon's own queen would complain lol😂

I don't find the series rushed at all. The book is very fast paced and action packed as well and i thought they translated it well to the screen 🤷♀️

Everywhere I look I see his face we all miss you lance you were a fantastic actor he was great as Zeus
He was so good as Zeus!
Loving the series. Later in the books and sequel series Percy becomes a beast using water in his fight scenes.

Most probably they'll recast him... remember gods can change form however they like right
I can't believe they recreated the 2010 post credit scene
And the way they did was amazing. Sure Gabe wasn’t as abusive. But I still enjoyed how it was an accident
I liked this show obviously it’s not perfect but compared to the movies it’s a 10/10 😂❤
Exactly how I feel.
Hopefully if the first 5 books get adapted no one will spoil anything for you, cus some moments are jaw dropping CRAZYYYYYY

I love watching people who had no idea about Luke.
Can yall imagine Annabeth at Disney World? This girl hasn't even seen a movie?!😭
She's been at camp since she was 7. She probably missed out on a lot of movies.
