Cincinnati's Abandoned Quantum Chemicals Building (Cincinnati, Ohio)

- Though perhaps best known to most Cincinnatians as the Quantum Chemical building, the building has been owned under several names
as its original tenant evolved. The building was constructed in 1983 for Quantum's parent company, which took on the Quantum name in 1987. Quantum employed about 500 at one time in the building. The complex of buildings had once been offices and laboratories for the U.S.I. division of Quantum Chemicals. Quantum had purchased the facility in 1988, a few years before they moved their headquarters to the Cincinnati area. Eventually Quantum Chemical's presence in the area diminished and sometime around 2003 they sold the property. Signage on some of the building walls indicated that the facilities may have been used by the University of Cincinnati at one point, but today the property is pretty much barren and used as storage for tractor trailers and other junk, mostly automobiles that have been gutted for parts.

Been here a few times, cool place. There was people living in one of the buildings but they didn't care that we were there as long as we kept our distance and told them if the cops showed up

@@monkeydui7241 Nope, but one time I was over there I got kicked out by 2 guys in normal everyday clothing. Parking is also tricky, they put concrete blocks up so you cant just drive in. However I've went back since with no problem.
@@viberidez5515 I'll try Sunday maybe. I know Summit Behavorial is nearby too so not sure if there's a fence.
Went here for the first time about two months ago. The grounds are in much worse condition than what is shown in the video. Great to know the history of the property, couldn't find much information. Good video
Yeah info is hard to come by on this place which just makes it that much more interesting!
I worked for Quantum Chemical in the 1980's and 1990's in Massachusetts

Just went here today way worse condition some of the floors are collapsing and are in really bad condition but overall really cool place would highly reccomend checking it out just all trash and stuff but overall one of my favorite abandoned places around.

Just some corrections. The buildings were built in 1950’s for National Distillers was part of the distillery across the highway that made De Kuyper. It was the Research building for that plant.
The 1980’s USI plant was up in the Sycamore area off Kemper near 275.
This was one of my favorite places!!!! Want to go back but someone lives there now… did you ever get a chance to get into the card factory by chance?

Demolition permits have been issued for this site with demolition taking place in 2023 Summer and Fall. DANGER: DO NOT ENTER THE SITE. THE BUILDINGS ARE UNSTABLE. BASEMENTS MAY CONTAIN TOXIC GASSES (heavier than air vehicle exhaust fumes)
What source said that?
The company I work for is the contractor on the building (demolition) permits. Currently doing paperwork and getting various inspections and approvals. Then we can start taking down the buildings.
