I keep ALL of the boxes and bags, ribbon, tissue, and camellias (and, of course, the receipts and ID cards from before they were chipped ) from my Chanel bags. Although I have no intention of selling anything from my collection myself, somewhere down the line the bags will be worth more with everything that came with the bag the day you bought it. For convenience and space I nest the smaller boxes inside the bigger ones if I can, and along with the bags, which I carefully flatten, they are stored in one of the spare bedroom closets on the upper shelves. I also put a postit to show which bag came in which box. My bags are stored in my closet in the dust bags. I keep the receipts and ID cards in my safe. I know - but I’m a little OCD. 😂 Just suggestions but use whatever part works.
I reuse both the boxes and bags from nice stores. The boxes are great for storing home decor
Love a good clean up. I would definitely keep boxes because of possible resale. Can’t wait to see this room finished.

Winding down is 2-3 AM?! When you actually go to bed it‘s early early morning. How little sleep do you get before the 8am workday?
An idea…design lighted (put them on dimmers) square cabinets with glass fronts on the very top of the closed cabinets. That way you can display-store purses in those and they will stay dust free. Maybe 1 purse and 1 pair of shoes could work. It would style and color as well!

Open shelving sometimes creates the desire to fill all the shelves ‘on show’. You can end up purchasing things you don’t really love just to create an aesthetic that’s pleasing to the eye. If the room is having floor to ceiling cabinetry, you could have a split at eye level of maybe two rows glass fronted - like a long, horizontal glass stripe - and the rest as solid doors. This way you can put just your more decorative bags or shoes on show. I keep packaging for more expensive items, or limited edition pieces, but not for shoes I’ve worn several times or bags I use very often. The resale won’t be great on those items so having the packaging won’t matter.

I bet you could make a really cute wall art collage using the various bags, especially if you have special holiday edition bags! Might take time to collect some more, but I bear it would make a great statement wall piece.

Sounds like it’s a styling room not a finishing room💜😘I have framed certain bags as art and I keep the boxes above my shelves where they are too hard to reach on a daily basis.

I keep some boxes with the dust bag to put away luxury shoes. I also use the shoe boxes to fill in a purse or traveling bag to keep its shape. Makes it so much easier to store bc the bag is standing up right and not flopping over. I’ll keep special edition bags, but will throw away most of them! 😊
I keep my boxes and repurpose the bags. I often carry items just like you to people’s homes or even to my office. It’s nice to leave it at a friend’s home or I give them to friends at my office. The bags are usually to nice to recycle or toss. If you really want to get rid of them, try sending them to Goodwill or similar organization. They will sell them for $3-$7 each and they will sell!
Yes, I keep most of my boxes and bags. I ones I keep are so well made and too pretty to toss.

I do recommend keeping the boxes in case of resale! I usually just keep them in storage or underneath shelves.
Hope you mom recovers quickly! I keep all the boxes and packaging. Even ribbon etc. But I love packaging especially when it’s beautiful and high quality. Save one of each brand or size to display on the top of the closet cabinets if you’re not planning to floor to ceiling height. Extras can use storage containers in other cabinets.
Would love a video of your favorite brushes to go with your favorite product.

For luxury items I do keep the boxes but the bags I store away then use when I’m taking something to someone’s house.

I love your detailed description of Chantecaille foundations. Their cushion foundation is amazing. Thank you. It feels so good to organize! I only keep a few pretty store bags to transport things to friends. While I have a few exceptions, I do not save most boxes. I will use some to store buttons, markers, sealing wax for letters etc. But that is it. As a former equestrian, I have been guided to properly care for various types of leathers. I store all patent leather shoes, and bags in their box with the tissue. Patent is both strong and delicate. The lacquer coating can rapidly decay in light, heat and patent leather will absorb dyes from any items stored next to them. I also store white (white leather can slightly yellow over time) or satin pieces (which can fade even in closet light) in their box. Things in boxes have a 3" x 5" card taped to the end with a clear description of the boxes contents and the color. Everything I regularly use is on shelves, even if it is Hermes, Chanel, Fendi, etc. No need to keep the box. I was told the inner tissue (directly around and in the shoe or handbag) in most luxury shoe and handbag boxes are treated to preserve the leather and we should save those tissues to store with the shoes or handbags. You will notice the texture is different than the top tissue you see first.

I do keep the boxes, with all the packaging 'stuffing" inside. I would keep the bags that are good shape if you have room to store. Love the look - both days!!

I also keep my clothes and shoes in my regular closet (bursting at the seams because it is small in comparison to most) and have taken over another bedroom in my home 🤣to keep my handbags, perfume, makeup and TH-cam filming stuff. I keep all the boxes and shopping bags (I am addicted to shopping bags) however am over run by them and also need to figure out what to do. I finally decided to get rid of all the shoe boxes but need to figure out what to do with the handbag boxes. I am halfway through organizing my "finishing room" and for budget purposes purchased the storage cabinetry from Ikea. I look forward to seeing your completed finishing room.

Fun video! Thanks. Yes, I keep the boxes, sometimes I’ll use them for gifts to others, especially the boxes containing cosmetics because it’s impossible to find good quality gift boxes anymore. I also keep some bags and use them as needed. If the bags get worn, I use them for collecting recyclable paper. Once they get to “that” point, they get recycled.

I hope your mom is feeling better! I keep boxes and put trinkets in them. If you have time, you can probably sell extra bags and boxes on Poshmark. I see a lot of listings - I think there are luxury collectors who would be interested.

The one thing I wanted to maybe suggest regarding the shoes you couldn’t wear because of the elastic would be to talk to a cobbler that deals with luxury brands. There maybe something a good cobbler could do so you could wear those beautiful shoes. I watch a cobbler. He is in New Jersey I believe. I watch him on TH-cam. His name is Bedos. He does remarkable work. I know he mentioned people send him jobs and he seems so friendly you might be able to email him first to see his ideas for a fix. I thought I would just suggest that. Can't wait to see your finished room and how you'll store your handbags! We are in the process of building our forever home and I'll be designing my "boutique" room. I have over 60 bags (mostly Chanel) that I want to display and thought of open shelving but, like you, don't want to maintain dusting and want to keep my bags as prestine as possible. Also want drawers for my wallets (like Hermes and Chanels) which I have over a dozen. I save all my boxes and bags as well. They are too nice to toss.

Oooh, Michele, please let us see the finished room!!! I have a bunch of small Chanel boxes that makeup comes in. I hate discarding them and have started using them for storage of items that mean a lot to me, but I don't know where to put them.

I keep the dustbags for all purses. I only keep the boxes and bags if I know it's not going to be a forever item so I can give away at a later date, or resell.

I have that Future gel foundation in Porcelain and this reminded me to break it out again. It is a lovely product. I do keep the prettier shopping bags in one place in a closet, and almost all the boxes so things are protected. But you have given me an idea to transform one bedroom with closed closets for more clothing space and then maybe a nice sofa bed for guests. This was a great vlog, Michele. I live in LA and have relished this cloudy, rainy weather -- reminds me of home (NYC). xo
Yes I generally keep boxes that things come in, depending of course on what the item is. Handbags for sure, because when I'm not carrying a handbag, it lives in its box to keep it clean and dust free (and it's much easier to store in my wardrobe). Bags, I used to keep all lovely spendy designer shopping bags, and then a few years ago I thought why am I keeping all of these. Literally they do nothing but are in the way and collect dust. Now I keep only the nicest ones, the most unusual ones I don't often have, and ones that I know I'll use again.

What about glass cabinet doors on some areas so you can display some of the bags but keep the dust out. Will that stop the dust? I do keep my bags and boxes. I have this idea in my head that a mix of classic designer paper bags would make a pretty artistic sort of display hanging in odd spots in my room? Oh and you could do a mirror on the wall you don’t want any cabinetry on.

Keep the bags if you have space😂. I definitely keep the boxes, and use the dust bags. You can also use the ribbon , particularly Chanel , for shoelaces to add a little extra to shoes or boots!

Suggestion, if I may. I would go through the handbags in the garage and get them in a better temperature. Maybe put a air purifier in the room because of the dust. I can't live without mine. I use Blue Air. Thanks for the make-up suggestions.
Always better to keep an original box and anti-dust bag if sth is bought as a potential "investment" piece. The value of it may be higher in the future with a box and a bag. It depends what it is I guess.

I use my paper bags for my recyclage and I give the boxes to people I know that needs it for their shopping.

I kept all my boxes and shopping bags for my luxury handbags. I only bought 3 but I feel like letting go of the shopping bags except for my Chanel. I don’t plan to sell my bags but I’ve heard that it is a bonus to provide box and shopping bag. I just feel like I paid for the packaging and shopping bag lol!

I feel for your Mom -- when I had COVID last, my throat felt like hamburger! I found that mixing fresh raw ginger (grated) with honey, scooping some up with a spoon, and sucking on the spoon helped a LOT.

Mama should gargle with whiskey. I swear it works for bad sore throats. Don’t have to swallow it😂….hope she feels better soon…….as for all those bags and boxes, people sell those on Poshmark. It’s very strange, but you can sell them if you want to, otherwise, I’d donate the bags to a charity store for them to reuse and I’d recycle the boxes that you aren’t going to be storing things in. That’s what I’ve always done. Less clutter, clear mind😊

Don’t you have a pretty substantial walk in closet in the bedrooms attached bathroom? Would you have enough room in that walk in closet to build out a really nice closet and then use the room as an upstairs living so with a tv? Or you could build out the whole room. It’s a pretty massive house.
The walk-in closet is built out (tour to come) for clothing and shoes for me and my husband. My handbags wouldn't fit in there, so I'll be using this room for that.

Toss the shopping bags/KEEP the products' accompanying protective storage bags (especially for travel-packing): The manufacturer has specifically designed/selected specific dimensions/materials to ensure safe, efficient (and easily recognizable) product storage. Now, you know EXACTLY which 'treasure' to pull when getting ready.
Michele, this beautifully-appointed/designed respite is not a 'Pantry'!! Clear GLASS DOORS on the cupboards/cabinets w/clear-glass shelving!! What's the point of building a custom, beautifully-appointed studio, only to be met by 'panty doors' upon entering? Don't want snoopy-loopy guests / household staff seeing/making note of your precious, personally selected, especially expensive treasures? Install a 'finger-print' or coded lock-pad on this room's entry door.
A 'center island' (with storage drawers) in this room is a must; a 'crystal chandelier' is expected.
P.S. For this room's glass-door cabinets & shelving, ask your contractor about the cabinets where all one needs to do is to tap the top of the door's hinge to back-light each cabinet. (Tap once to activate lights; tap again to deactivate lights.) Yes, such exquisite cabinets are available. Enjoy!
