  • Testing out the new DJI Mic 2, snuck out after work and got a quick flight in the Pitts.
    Just flying the J-3 Cub
Complete last minute change to my schedule allowed me to sneak out to the airport and film another video in the Cub. This video is a thank you to all the people that have helped me learn how to use all the different gear over the past couple years. As well as a shoutout to GoPro for the inspiration.

Man I love watching you fly the Cub. Crosswind landings are a challenge, all the pattern work you do really shows. Mad respect to any commercial transport pilot that bothers to get stick and rudder experience, much less one that gets as much as you. So many of the pilots flying commercial today don't have those skills. Glad you have it man. When the technology fails, nice having an actual stick and rudder pilot in the seat. I appreciate the details you think about when filming, the little things add up to a better production.

It was so eye opening when I was flying for the regional airlines that none of the pilots did any flying on the side. Maybe 1 out of 10 pilots did any GA flying.

Purposely lining up with the centerline makes that signature opener WORK every time! My dad got a JVC VHS video camera setup when I was a kid. The camera was separate from the tape deck. It weighed a ton and changed my life. That and a super 8 camera or two.
Your videos are great. They’re fun content and they’re also visually super solid and nice to look at. And the edits are just right.

Dude I remember using one of those! My dad was always into cameras and I would play with all his old ones as a kid. I wish I still had them. I have all his old regular cameras.

Thanks for all the comments Greg, I’ve honestly enjoyed the challenge of putting one out every day. I’m going to do it as long as I can.

I’m agonizing over an Aeronca Chief for sale local for 19k, 1300 and change smoh. I haven’t finished my ppl yet, but the money to finish is in the bank already and I don’t imagine the opportunity will last long on this Chief. I can envision monthly ownership costs as low as $500 a month, just a few hours of overtime every month for the ability to fly whenever I want. It would be a big risk, especially since only tie downs are available, and overtime could dry up, but man is it tempting.

I’m a bad influence because I would tell you to go for it. But security is very important. I remember running really thin for a while and the planes sat, but the cub (just like the Chief) is super inexpensive to maintain.
