Some times you learn the best when you make a mistake. Bummer to hear you lost so much to one mistake but you’ll come back better. Shows everybody’s human at the end of the day. Keep up the hard work
Dude, it was so good to see you. Sucks about the zero. On the good news front I got my plane back after a three month annual. On the bad news front I had spinal surgery and still can’t drive so I’ve been down to see my plane once it’s very pretty. On the worst news side the spinal surgery did not go as planned or as I wanted it to go and I will never get my medical back. It was fun watching you fly.
Hi Alex. Love your vids. Ground judging is unique in that a true perfect maneuver or orientation does not appear as such to those on the ground. You need to have observers to give feedback on your orientations. You adjusting your reference tool may be applicable to one orientation or angle but not all, depending on your ground observers. My point is that the position of judges is paramount and to fly to the perspective of the observer. Good luck fly safe!
Thanks Andrew! I was able to get out and watch my dad fly it to see how it looked and then he watched me from the ground. We made a few more adjustments and think we have it perfect now. I’ve also thought about adjusting the wrap on the plane to make it appear more straight
Hate to hear you had a tough time out there. Nobody is perfect man, and guaranteed you learned from this. I bet you won't do that again. Really glad you're back making videos, but now I know what you've been up to...practice! Hey, the snap the opposite direction would look good at an airshow, Lol. Is that something you've considered? Air show pilot?
Good to hear from you! I got your email and watched the Christen eagle video! Motivated me big time to get better and actually fly ours. And yes I’ve actually been working on the airshow card. New video coming soon
Does competition aerobatics earn you money? Is there a long time where you’re not making money? Does anybody do it for their sole career. I’d love to get into aerobatics, but I’m a CFI, so I’m poor.
Unfortunately there is no money in competition. We all do it because we love it. It costs a ton but the friends you make and the experiences you have are worth it
Welcome back! Sorry to hear about the zero, but if it gets your sighting device squared away, it's probably worth it long-term. Do you have any videos of your flights from the judge's perspective? Even if not to share publicly, that might be useful for you to watch. Anyway, keep at it!!
Need to mesure the difference between wing incidence at the root vs tip if any. I would use the incidence at the root. Could be 0% not sure of your plane-to place your 90/45 sight gauge. I would use two levels, one at the root and one at the tip and see if there is any difference Another to find out is ask the manufacturer and ask if the there is any washout at the tip and if any how many degrees than set your sights with a corrections for the difference
The incidence of the horizontal stabilizers vs the wing incidence will also affect the way the plane flies, but I would think that a high performance acro plane would be set at 0/0 degrees, again question for the manufacturer
Um yeah. I see even some of the judges missed it. Not unusual Bummer when you dont realise that and have even been doing wrong in training I guess that will go in your brain database of things to never let happen again We just had a comp here last weekend. I was on the downline in a double humpty and it had a full pos flick on it, anyway i just stuffed up, didnt pull quite hard enough, for no particular reason, and i got a pitch and a huge yaw and it just sat there like a cobra and im thinking wtf do i do now So i pulled just a bit more and man did it rotate fast. Yep HZ but i got a huge laugh from the judges when i landed
Hahaha I’m glad I’m not alone in this! It’s been a lot of fun moving up in category but I see where I still have so much more to learn in this category
@@alexandercoats I fly an RV-8 at Sports level in the UK. Managed to win the Nationals in 2018 in it, which I was pretty happy with. That aeroplane is great in many ways, but it's a knife at a gunfight in a field of Extras and Pitts. I had always planned to work my way up the categories, but circumstances have thwarted me, and this year will be my first year not competing as I'm working towards a different flying goal. I still fly a lot of aeros, formation, and mock combat in the 8 though. It's a great aeroplane for that stuff. Great videos, please keep them coming!
Bahaha. Go train unlimited. Then youll fly advanced better but more than that youll find that memorising the sequence for advanced is childs play. Well relatively speaking
Man! Welcome back! 🙌🏻🙌🏻✈️ was starting to think you were done making videos
Haha I’ll be making more from now on. I was working on a couple side projects.
Did the Christian Bolton Edge 540 turn out to be a reliable airplane and good purchase? How fast will it cruise at 9000 ft and at what fuel burn?

Thanks Alex, I switched up my free to match what I flew at this last contest haha. Hopefully I don’t make the mistake again
Its good to see that you are now doing something positive with your life.

Woah woah woah, like permanently won’t get it back or there is a tiny chance?
When you feel up to it I’ll fly with you as a safety pilot
Wings are mounted with an angle of incidence to the fuselage. If the judges are looking at the wing, sight to that, then adjust to taste I’d think
That’s what I ended up doing, I switched it up a bit to match what the judges liked

If someone doesn’t bring this a guy a BOX of donuts before his first flight at the next contest.
I will be disappointed..
Great video,
Haha motivation is at an all time high now. I don’t want to make a mistake again
Miss your videos brother!
We are back!
That’s why we stick to flying cubs. 😂. Kidding, sorry you got the zero dude.
Haha I’ve been wanting to get back in the cub for a while

Indeed. Thanks for sharing! I thought that might be the case. Maybe when I get that captain’s chair!
Yes he is back!!
Haha thanks Nick! Hopefully I get to film more this week

You probably have some washout at the wing tip, thus the change from the wing incidences
Any idea on how to determine how much?

What’s the airport you fly. ? I want to fly aerobatics in MSFS 2020 flying simulator , thank you. !
That’s at Borrego Springs CA

You’re doing well if you’ve made it this far until getting your first HZ. I’ve lost count of the number I’ve picked up in seven years of competing.
I figured it will be the first of many for me. What are you competing in?

Where’s all the new content
Finally getting it made
More videos chief
Out soon
Where did you get that hoodie man?
I made it. I’ll have to put them up for sale

no montage video of the contest?
I didn’t take enough footage while I was there. I’ll film the next one

That’s how I prepared in the off-season. I think I took the figure one from an unlimited know. Or someone’s free.
Aerobatics is a stupid sport. 😮😂
I agree haha
