***Amendment*** - We strive to ensure that all information is researched properly in every film to ensure their accuracy. Sometimes though information comes to light after the fact such as in this film. After uploading I have had the fortune to get more in-depth information from one of the longtime members of the NVRR. The ALCOs are definitely on the way out but for now are only required to have their engine blocks disabled as part of the swap out deal with the CARB grant. The fate of the FP4s after this is still up in the air. They can be stuffed and mounted or sent for scrap. Only time will tell. Number 62's fate is also not certain at this time. There is hope the line will keep the unit running but being in California ...

Nice to see the Alcos. I rode behind them many times on the Santa Fe between Richmond and Fresno. Incidentally... We natives pronounce it as "Saint Heleena."

I did try to get that pronunciation right but I guess I missed.

@@SIDETRACKEDCHANNEL We've got a lot of Spanish names in California. We timers pronounce them in more of an English manner and newcomers give them more of a Spanish feel. I know Spanish but still say "Ignasho, Los Gatus, and Saruncisco" instead of "Ignacio, Los Gatos and San Francisco."

@@SIDETRACKEDCHANNEL No problem. Incidentally we had a couple of those Alco "Army" locomotives at the Western Railway Museum. They had that distinctive Alco sound. They also made a lot of smoke. Some called honorary steam locomotives. I don't think there was a more attractive locomotive than the PA's in the Santa Fe "warbonnet" paint scheme.

Those locomotives shouldn't be scraped. They should be preserved either on site or museum that will take proper care of them.

I work for the Napa Valley Wine Train as one of their conductors. Our 2 FPA-4s 70/72 still run alone with our ALCO RS-11 62. They’re still running! Also 71/73 aren’t scrapped! They’re still at our yard just used for parts. Only the engines under the chassis are scrapped! The locomotives themselves are still sitting in our yard right now. Enjoy 70/72 and 62 as we still use them until it’s their time. I don’t know when they’ll be done but it’s going to be a few years or so still until then.

Do you know what the disposition of the RS-11 and the FPA-4’s will be? Will NPVWT donate them to museums or sell them?

My research indicated otherwise but you are certainly in a better position to know than I am. I am glad I was able catch them when I did. I hope they still have some good run time left.

I doubt they can be. There is a similar situation that has happened with Genesee & Wyoming where they got carbon credits in exchange for scrapping old road power. This required the locomotive the locomotives to have their blocks drilled an engine disabled. Hard to find a home for a locomotive that does not run. But we shall see. Knowing California they will no doubt demand the locomotives to be scrapped.

@@SIDETRACKEDCHANNEL it’s going to be a long while still until our main fleet of locomotives except 1864 are done and gone. Probably another few years or so but I’ll be one of the few making solid fact announcements

@@SIDETRACKEDCHANNEL I know some of our locomotives will be scrapped but I don’t know about the ALCOS?? Once I hear/get 110% concrete results what their fates are I’ll spread the word
