I have a great Doug story. The nicest guy in the world.. about 15 years ago my wife and I travelled 6 hours from Thunder Bay Ontario to Minneapolis to see them at first ave.. we didn’t get tickets ahead of time and found out quickly that it was sold out. We were told by a local to try the local book store down the street from the old Let it be Records.. I asked the man at the counter if he had any tickets for the show and he said no that they were all sold out and sold out everywhere else.. I hear a sweet raspy voice behind me say “I can get you into the show” low and behold it was Doug! We talked for a good 10 minutes and he was so nice and he put us on the guest list. Such a down to earth “rock god”. Thanks Doug!
Dang that is awesome! I saw them play a few years ago and noticed him standing next to me watching the co-headliner. I just nodded at him and he nodded back haha.
@@untetheredmoon6971 same thing happened to me the other day while he was watching the French tips before he played. He was getting super into it and I just smiled at him. He was too into the music to notice, but talked to me for a good while before they went on. He was at the merch table and I showed him the tattoo I got for him. I had talked to him the month before at the Cincy show for a good 40 mins so didn’t wanna take up a lot of his time like I did before. But he’s the sweetest guy you’ll ever meet. So easy to talk to even for me. And I get anxious and starstruck extremely easy
First day I met my wife we ended up at a built to spill show( nuerolux in Boise) decided that night we should get married as a joke, well fast forward 28 years jokes on us - our youngest(18yrsold) went to her first Built to spill show with her boyfriend this past spring.....so nice to have them as the soundtrack of our lives ... so thankful
Even better, they show up everywhere else. Their touring is so extensive they even come to play near me across the country, when other popular indie bands that are based nearby haven't been here in years.
Agree. But for such a guitar driven band that is known for having multiple layered guitar parts in almost all their songs... not having a second guitarist is outrageous. Both times I saw them live was great but could've been so much better hearing rhythm and leads.
I work in the entertainment industry doing concert production. I have met Doug several times working their show at my venue and he is straight up the nicest, most down to earth guy you'll ever meet. Rock on duder!
I stayed after to talk to Doug a few months ago and while we were chatting a homeless man came up and unassumingly asked us for money for a beer. Doug went into his tour bus and gave him 2 nice IPAs lol. I ended up having a great conversation with him and the opening band for 20 or so minutes, a night I'll never forget
Doug is a blast to watch on guitar. Melanie was so fun to see live. Teresa was so nice to talk her drum kit setup after I saw them. Great and talented humans.
Gonna lose is such an incredible song. Makes me rethink my habits of getting into a band that’s been around for a while by only listening to the early stuff.
Just saw them in Cinci last night and I stuck around for a while and he came back out to start packing up. I have terrible social anxiety but knew this would probably be my only chance to just walk straight up and talk to my idol. So I did. And as nervous as I was he made it extremely relaxed and comfortable. Extremely down to Earth. Talked to everyone that wanted to talk to him. And was nice enough to take a picture with me and give an autograph. One of the sweetest people you’ll ever meet if you get the chance. We talked for well over 35 minutes me and about 5 or 6 other guys just hanging out by the stage with him. Their was a drunk fan who kept coming back for high fives and interrupting other people and stuff but you could tell he was just excited and really vibing out. Doug could have easily told that guy to chill out after the third or fourth time but he never did. He high fived him everytime and made sure to acknowledge him and reply in such a kind way and even joked around a bunch with him. Not many people are like that anymore. Absolutely awesome experience. Still feels very surreal.
