I can't put my finger on what it is, but your character designs really get my imagination going. I was really inspired by your characters, the camera lens prince and the vampire game girl. Now the same thing happens with this video. Just looking at the sketch, I have an urge to imagine the world and how she could move and what her story could be. It's weird because I don't remember feeling so strongly about all the hundreds and hundreds of characters I've seen in my life. I don't know. You must be doing something right :D. Anyway, thank you for your video!

I feel the same way! Not so much with the vampire, but this character and Prince Shutter Bug both made me want to work with the characters and design my own.
Maybe it’s seeing the designing process alongside how creative the designs are that inspire you. That’s what really inspires me haha

2:54 my first ever OC that I created that is still my OC to this day has the most basic character design ever because I was like 6 when I made her yet somehow I managed even in my early years to make her unique enough that she stands out from the crowd. He design is literally a weird light brown pixie cut bob type of thing, a necklace with a medium blue diamond shaped crystal on the end, a dress in a slightly darker color with 7 little dots arranged in a circle with one of them in the center on her skirt, a brown belt, a little light purple bag attached to the belt, and flats in the same color.
Honestly I hope this becomes a game..It sounds really interesting!

Wow... This is amazing! :O Before you added the cloak on the final thing though, you were missing the belt thingy on the side view. It was on the right leg for the other two views, and the direction she was facing shows that the right leg is facing the viewer. Not sure if this important though, since the cloak is covering it up but I thought I should say something. The drawing is still really cool, and I would really like to see more of this character! :D

Hero of Ink I kind of doubt it will be 3D, long hair and clothes are especially difficult and expensive to rig in 3D, my guess is it’s going to be 2D, especially considering that it looks like a solo project she’s working on with maybe a few other people.
With her talk about how she wanted that particular style of shading, its defiantly going to be 2d. Also the fact that she's never mentioned using any kind of 3d software to my knowledge.
lilpeoplez actually, you can rig clothes just like any other thing in the model and give it premade animations instead of having to program clothe physics in.
Lunar Lurker lavender really seems like she wants to focus on the tiny details, like pigtails moving with the run cycle and shadows that scribble...something tells me she wouldnt take such a shortcut. Not that shortcuts are bad, but she definatly wants to add her own personal charm
Everyone here saying the shading/hair/clothes would be too difficult for 3D, but it's really easy. You just need to know how to add "physics", and the shading is just a matter of coloring it. There are plenty of games with characters that have complicated designs and shading.

Also, coloring my characters is really hard for me, cause i dont want them to have the same colors as another one of my chars, but also i dont want there to be too much white or black, but its also hard not to make them too colorful? Eh idk, the struggle is real

Razzle Dazzle Dorito I like to choose 2 colors first (Or 3 if two of them are close like orange and red) to make the palettes, and after that i keep playing with them until i have the final thing (Sometimes adding a neutral tone like black to make it less "colorful")
You could also study color palettes from shows, movies or artists that you like (For example, Gravity falls has many warm and not-brightfull tones while Steven Universe is more pastel and colorfull)
idk if that could help you but maybe you should try it

I have like 7 universa with lots of characters but I never actually work on them so it's more like I have an idea, then I develop it more and more never stepping outside of my comfort zone, and after a few months of half-assed attempts i move on to another idea that shares the same fate.

People say that’s because the sketch is made of a lot of lines, and when you do your line art, it’s only one line. With the sketch, your brain registers every line and makes the best lines the most noticable to you, and since line art is only one line, your brain registers mistakes much more easily. People say the trick is to make a rough line art before your final line art. I have tried it and it was actually really helpful!

I'm currently working on a game myself! It's called VHV (Villains, Heros and Villagers). You get to choose from 6 main characters then choose their lives. Will they fall in love? Will they take revenge for how the world has treated them? Will they follow a weird blue pig? You decide! (my work is on my Tumblr thesmallfoxartist)

I really wanna do my project which is about a 6/7ish little girl, who has been adopted and rejected 4 times because of something, and that something is that she has a friend which is a wolf like demon. The girl is always in a yellow raincoat and she can always hurt you with just a call from her friend. You will get dizzy, flashbacks of all your memories will be full with death, you'll hear her laugh's, you'll see her with the demon staring at you, visions of you getting killed you'll pass out and wake up with some metal and probably physical damage with just a little, boo.
This is very inspired by "IT", the remake. I really wanna make this a comic but I've never got up and tried to make it a thing....sadly

This is really awesome but I wouldn’t say this is a video to teach character design as you skipped far too many steps for it to be that, lovely character but you skipped multiple designs, silhouettes, colour theory and just general research and inspiration, reference 👌 again awesome video tho! Also I am aware it’s a speed design but to say it’s an entire process is just a little bit well, not entirely correct haha

I am starting to study animation and this video has helped me a lot with a work that I have to do for the drawing and design class, I have to design two characters with their spinning sheets, just like in the video, but I also need to draw the expressions.
I think I'm not bad at drawing and although I have a lot of ideas in my head to draw characters, when I have to put it on paper my mind becomes cloudy and in the end I always have trouble drawing them, especially because I do not have my own style. Anyway, thanks to your videos I always have an idea of how to reach my style and be able to draw better to animate, so thank you so much

i dont get why you erase instead of making a new sketch/layer, isnt seeing a lot of options next to each other a very important part of character design?
I’m working on making Thomas and Friends Scenes into little “3D” Stickmen (similar to Jayden animations Style). An example of a scene, if, let’s say Thomas Crashes into a brick wall, the Human Thomas Smashes his face into a Brick wall. It is simple, heck I don’t even draw full hands, there just mitts, but I’m satisfied with how it’s been going so far.

I have been working on it for a few months now but it is far from complete, theres a lot of story elements to figure out, lots of characters to make, so it will not be complete any time soon, however, i must talk about the story that im making.
It is called "The Cyclosen's Myth." and its about a mythological creature turning out to be an actual species.. These cyclosens are the humanoids of past hurricanes e.g: Hurricane Wilma.
It is simply as if us humans have discovered another relatively dangerous and relatively humanoid creature today..

really enjoy your art style, & it was part of what helped me get over a wall.
something about my art style being compared with Jhonen Vasquez or T Burton felt debilitating towards my pursuit of drawing in earlier years, cause i was trying to go for something different & grainy, with a variation in lines (delicate meets violent) or warped shapes. & those things were only just coming out in media. never the less, it felt like my drawn artwork wouldn't be perceived as original.
Thankfully it seems to be working out to benefit myself in the long run, the break allowed me to experience a wide range of other art mediums & when i was ready to come back to the hand drawn craft, it wasn't exactly easy, but i've come to appreciate what my art style was, and how it continues to evolve.
So hah Thank you for the inspiration along the way, and for sharing about your journey with everyone!

if you'd like some help i may be able to offer a little
i'm not really a game developer by trade, but having years of experience with "modding" (in almost every area, 2D 3D) i'd decided to pursue a passion project to make a game that i myself would enjoy playing hah without giving some elevator pitch.
but ill say that since it's just me so far, i've had to fine tune the scope. to keep the essentials.
i was open to game engines (& framework) for awhile before this, and decided that instead of a 3D action game, i'd choose a 2D engine that could do THE things.. on my medium sized list.. so if you aren't for some reason happy with the engine you are currently using, and have a preference for sprite based renderings (up to 720p res, perhaps more) then you may also like something more straight forward like OpenBOR.
which is basically a framework for creating a certain style of game from the 80-90s era that went on to become a means for fans to make their own MIXUPS of their own favorite games, within those or similar genres. much of the code itself is arguably more like a script, with its open source and has further extensions as well, but in general learning it so far has been largely from the well documented instruction manual, imagination & experimentation.
but this went on longer than i anticipated so best of luck in future endeavors ^^
