This rink has the piping embedded right into the concrete. It is very easy to make the ice on this surface as it is not porous and is refrigerated. If you are trying to install a concrete pad for a natural rink, it should not be any more difficult to make ice than on sand, as long as the area is level. You should use a liner with a frame or boards to make the ice white and contain the water for the best results.
I have a 55 x 150 outdoor rink, but with a dirt floor. I'm thinking about cement, but worried about cracking and about making ice on cement. I was told its much more difficult to make ice on cement than a dirt floor, I also HATE dealing with the unevenness of the dirt floor that I have now. Any thoughts?
