22, been self taught ice skating my whole life, this tutorial is a HUGE help! And I can see all the effort you guys put into making it. THANKS A MILLION!
Amazing tutorials, I'm a dude in my 30s and always been a fan of figure skating for the tricks and footwork being a skateboarder my whole life. I am gonna try and learn these, thanks
thanks dude. I've been skating since August last year and now I'm trying to get into freestyle. I've been trying this move for a couple weeks just going off intuition but i think i know where i went wrong just by watching this video. CHEERS
For all those who say they can't get enough velocity (speed), tie your skates tighter. It makes a huge difference in your performance and allows for a quicker flick and turn, meaning you become faster
best tutorial, i've seen, yet! i've been watching tons of tuts before, but didn't really realize the movements, when i'm on ice. thanks for, guys; appreciate it a lot!
Hello. great tutorial. I've been practising this for a few weeks now and I can now do this move, however I always seem to lose speed and can only do 2 of them before stopping. could you please try and explain in which part of the move do you generate momentum to move forward? I'm finding this bit difficult...Thank you for the great vid
Great vid- so many skating tutorials have terrible sound and scratchy vid this is great. Now to master this move. Does it work better in Hockey or figure skates?
There's a young guy at our rink that drills the grapevines and eagles incessantly. Never seen him power skate, but his frestyle footwork is impressive.
Nice tutorial, but I can only manage one full routine. After one spin backwards and forwards I don't have velocity left to make the next ones How do you put enough pressure on your skates to make the following rounds?
the speed n momentum can be maintained within each half twist you do by putting more power in your hips to swing back around but try not to over twist, over twisting = more energy used also jordan skates very wide try to make it smaller n tighter, tighter = quicker n more grapevines
nice tutorial. but it's kind of confusing since the example of the guy skating on ice has the right leg as the master foot and the 1 with detail explaination with roller blades on has left leg as master..
I used this vid to teach myself on Roller-skates, its a very similar technique but you have to rise onto 2 wheels when transitioning from forwards to backwards. (by the way there wasn't any good grapevine tutorials for rollerblades, thats why i came here. Its pretty much the same thing) (I also added an extra lemon when going backwards to create more room for turning on 2 wheels)
Somehow I just got this in my recommended and even though I almost always play hockey, the one time I don’t hockey on the rink itmwill be filled with me trying freestyle skating
Thanks for this video, however it's confusing as parts are done with either the left leg or the right leg being the weak one. Please stick to just one.
The same thing ( I also loose the whole speed after 2-3 times... Where is the secret? There should be at least one movement, which increases the speed during the whole moving... Please, advise, guys =) Cheers!
For anyone is practicing grapevine using this video is actually confusing because it starts with left foot in front and then explain it with right foot in front.
Same here, I think it's to do with how much he pushes with the skate that is perpendicular to the way he's travelling, especially in step 3 at the end when you transition to step one, you just need to push a bit to keep the momentum going, or just go fast from the very beginning if you're brave enough. I'm sure that enough practice will get us there :)

when youre about to switch sides
exactly what I needed to know: weak leg vs. strong leg, which foot bears the weight as you move, etc. Thanks for breaking it down.
Great vid- so many skating tutorials have terrible sound and scratchy vid this is great. Now to master this move. Does it work better in Hockey or figure skates?
Does this require hockey skates, or can it be done on figure skates?
The best ice skating tutorial ever! THX you so much!
What kind of skates do you need to freestyle skate?
what kind of skates are you using?
There's a young guy at our rink that drills the grapevines and eagles incessantly. Never seen him power skate, but his frestyle footwork is impressive.
How are hockey roller-blades on pavement? because I want to buy a pair, and want to play on the street. Are they designed for that?or indoor use?
How is it called when you are spinning in one spot moving your feet however you want to?
Nice edge work in that last freestyle sequence. That was sick B!
Thank you for this very helpful and well presented video.
С 6го раза получилось, отличный видеогайд. Все доступно объяснили, молодцы.

Nice tutorial, but I can only manage one full routine. After one spin backwards and forwards I don't have velocity left to make the next ones How do you put enough pressure on your skates to make the following rounds?

You have to push when turning in step 3
did he say both skates toe section? or just the right skate?
I took an epic fall when attempting this in my figure skates and my coach just laughed at me.
Great videos! I am going to learn to ice skate backwards next!!

the speed n momentum can be maintained within each half twist you do by putting more power in your hips to swing back around but try not to over twist, over twisting = more energy used also jordan skates very wide try to make it smaller n tighter, tighter = quicker n more grapevines

I do it with stronger leg forward
Although I can do most stuff on both legs as been skating for 4 years
can I do this with figure skates
+Alice Stone I'm sure you can. My friend at the rink just showed me this today and taught me too O.o she uses figure skates.
+TheFantasyFen wouldn't my toe-pick constantly get in the way....??
+Alice Stone apparently not. I'm not sure. I'll have to try it myself to know how it's like
Yes. Yo can.I tried hard to get for some time and I finally did it. Now I must work on speed. I do a combination of figure skating with free style.
So good Tutorial
Somehow I just got this in my recommended and even though I almost always play hockey, the one time I don’t hockey on the rink itmwill be filled with me trying freestyle skating

Would be better if it didn't keep swapping the rotation directions in successive cuts, causes great confusion if using to learn
but keep your head up
Nice

We call it the snake :) it's a nice trick to do :D
yes

Trick at 00:20
I can do one cycle of this, but then have trouble transitioning to do another one in a row
