She was incredible. Her voice was great. She just got emotional before this song. She has recovered from cancer and shared a tear snd told thr story. Then sang that song... She was our highlight. Awsome Candi xxx

I gave this record of this to a friend in the 90s. She was a close friend in an inpressional time of my life. She has since past away. This is a song that definitely provokes memories.

"You Got the Love" is a song by British songwriting team The Source featuring American singer-songwriter Candi Staton. Originally released in 1986, the song was remixed and re-released in 1991, 1997, and 2006. It reached number three on the UK Singles Chart, number two on the UK Dance Singles Chart and number one on the UK Club Chart
The original was recorded before then
Not quite. That wikipedia entry is wrong. The original original from 1986 was a band called The Source who were American and the song was recorded for a diet commerical and released on their own small label. It was then licensed to the UK label Streetwave.
The Acapella vocals from that version were then used for a bootleg remix over the top of "Your Love" by Frankie Knuckles in 1989.
A re-recorded version of this 1989 mashup was then released in 1991 as "Truelove Presents... The Source Featuring Candi Staton" - the artist "The Source" for that version had nothing to do with the American artist of the same name and was a psuedonym of John Truelove.
Few people realise that the proper original version of this song is a disco/funk thing with a backing track that sounds a bit like "Somebody Else's Guy". When people remix or do a cover version it's usually of the 1989, 1991 or 1997 versions. Florence and the Machine's version for example was a cover of the 1997 Now Voyager remix.
The vocals were taken from an old Candi track she recorded in the late 70s that was shelved. She had no idea it had been used or the video made when The Source sampled her vocals, she didn't even remember recording the original vocals because it went unreleased and she only did one recording session for it.

I've alway's loved Candi Staton, another one with a very unique voice. No, she didn't sound particularly good but but for almost "90yrs Old" she look's phenominal.
Her voice is a true gift from God!
She is old-school. And she is Sanctified in upper- and lowercase. She is a Gift. Sister has been an immense gift to the world.

The original version of this on Streetwave Records 12 inch version is where the acapella has been sampled from. I had that 12 inch single, yet another that has been stolen by well meaning young admirers. Candi though deserves all the respect for that vocal.

I disagree, often a maturing voice lends something new to a beloved peice like this. I like her sound here too. Remember how Paul Weller’s voice developed after Style Council? Imagine if he’d “called it a day” …I’ll rest my case there, have a beautiful and blessed day.😊❤
This is the best performance from the previous ones at Glastonbury 2023, the olds keep the quality. Everything that was previously generally has little to do with music and art.

This festival was obviously aimed at a certain demographic. Not aimed at youth because they don't have the funds . They do what Disney Films do and bring out ols ones a generation later so they buy tickets for their kids . Clever marketing but leaving out a youth culture isn't cool .

Hi Candi. Long time fan here. And a true Born again Christian. I love hearing your voice, always have, always will, but, something seems a little off here. Something seems somewhat dark here bordering on the satanic? Yes, your voice (as has mine), has faltered and we have to compensate here and there for the change that has happened to our vocals. Question. Is this music feel or even the music itself glorifying God? Not judging my sweet. But I myself have learned that if we do anything secular, that is outside of God's glorification of and for Him, we'd better talk to Him about it first. Does God really want us "out there" with the secular world in which most in that world do not know Him or seek to Glorify Him? Your vocals are still lovely, and they touch me regardless; but go to God and talk to Him about what you are doing; is it for the money? Is it for self? Does it glorify God and is it all really for Him? Your vocals will clear up when you go to Him with pure truth and honesty relative to why and what you are doing and what you do now.......is it for Him, or is it for yourself and your selfish ambitions? I don't think I would want to be performing for secular masses in my 80's healthy or not; if I do, it has to be for God and God only.
These people have to learn when it's time to stop. Debbie Harry, etc were awful.

This is what I don’t like about Glastonbury. Instead of having a young band on and giving them a break they dig up a half dead artist who was big in the 70’s (and I don’t mean to sound horrible) but she sounds awful.
leave it out - there are literally 1000's of acts & bands that played across the weekend & Candi is just one of them.
to have an artist play a track that 99.9% of the crowd knows all of the words to - that's no only entertainment but an absolute privilege IMO.
The age of the artist(e)s shows how dire music is these days. There is better music playing in Tesco than what is in the charts now as all the good stuff is mostly 30 plus years old.
