It would have been better to use lighter colored yarn when doing the instructions so you can see what you are doing - can see the stitches, where you’re putting your hook, etc...that would be a lot better by what you can see doesn’t transfer on screen w a dark colored yarn. If i want to use a stitch marker for the end of the row to make sure i have the width even, where do i put it...on the chain one or after the first stitch? I hope my question makes sense. I made a blanket for the first time and it was completely uneven😅 i find it hard to concentrate on counting stitches and enjoying tv time in the room with my hubby and want to rely on a marker instead of my memory 🤪

I suggest that you make a Little samplesize of 10 chains and go back and forward a couple of times to get the hang of it. Try going into the stitch the same way for 2 rows. I might be right even thouch it looks wrong on the first stitches. Look on top of the row; there is a V. You insert your hook in between the legs of the V. I know the yarn isnt the easiest to work with, and especially in darker yarn.🥰
No, not at all. Sometimes it will twist. You Can try stretching it out and see if it is easier to see where to go in. But the first row is always a bit hard. It gets a lot easier on the second row 😊

People crochet in different ways. When I single crochet, I always chain 1 and turn the work, and then skip this chain when I begin single crochet the next row. That way I alwayt get straight edges :-)

When you yarn over, you do bottom to top and then top to bottom. Is that a key part in the stitch or is that just how you do it specifically?
