After 50 years, Megalon has gotten more recognition. He’s such a unique kaiju and I wish he was brought back for other titles.
Megalon and Gigan HAVE to be used. They are just as iconic as King Ghidorah and Mothra in my opinion.

Megalon has always been my favorite ❤
The problem with megalon is that he's generally just remembered as Gigan's tag team partner, not his own unique threat like King Ghidorah is. Which I kind of don't mind as the two compliment each other pretty well in personalities (Gigan always seems like more of an intelligent, scheming monster to contrast Megalon's brutish personality/methodology), but it also hampers them bringing him back solo.
Yeah, VERY cool to see Megalon again. Though... heh, I'm sure I'll get heat for it, but I prefer the 1970s design; that was such a cool looking suit.
That was the best one yet by a huge margin!! The redesign on Megalon was phenomenal! They did a great job of showing the devastation the city was experiencing. The fight choreography was outstanding. This Megalon actually looked and behaved like it was more than a match for Big G. I loved it!
My biggest heartfelt thank you to everyone involved in these short films. From the ToHo execs that green lit the project all the way down to the guy fetching Tea and Noodles for everyone. A really big Canuckle Head Gojira fan is very very happy these past few years.

What just happened here. Is Godzilla alive? Was this a fan made film? I just showed my son Godzilla vs Megalon from the 70s today! My favorite Godzilla is the 70s Godzilla. Megalon got turned into a beast that's for sure! Loved "drop kick"!
@@joeb2588 Some of my info might be wrong but here's what I understand. This is the 3rd part of a series of short films which began about 4 years ago. The first one was a 1 minute fan film, but it was so well received that they became officially blessed by Toho, got funding and made a longer film last year (featuring Gigan, look up "G vs. G" to find it since you love the 70's kaiju!), and another one this year, which you just watched with Megalon. The Godzilla in this series is supposedly Godzilla Junior from the 90's series of films (Mechagodzilla II, SpaceGodzilla, and Destoroyah). This one, Godzilla vs. Megalon 2023, released at the 70th anniversary Godzilla festival held a few days ago, same day as the release of Godzilla Minus One. In other words, it's a good time to be a Godzilla fan, there is s ton of new stuff coming out by very talented artists! Godzilla is awesome, I hope your son enjoys it as much as I did when I was a kid! By the way, I started with the 70's Goji movies too and they are still my favorites!

I'm glad that Japan isn't shying away from doing more action packed Godzilla scenes like how he was in the older movies. It's nice that they're focusing on the more serious side of Godzilla in Reiwa, but it's also nice that they haven't completely forgotten this side of Godzilla even if it's in a more low budgeted film.
I believe since we have the monsterverse covering more kaiju fights, that’s why we are getting more solo godzilla movies in the Japanese side

my understanding is that these have been considered a continuation from Godzilla Vs Destroyah. and this is the grown godzilla jr. but i could be wrong. it'll probably be my head canon either way

This rules. Godzilla using his atomic energy in new ways, a callback to the tail slide flying kick from the first appearance of megalon, and megalons amazing new redesign that actually makes him look badass. Also I love that this Godzilla is calm and calculated, catching megalons blows and sending him to the ground like that. This is just so cool
I like that they made them more agile but still "heavy" when moving, and the classic soundtrack is great too.
Also liked how they used Godzilla's 80's growl like roar and breath animation style.
昭和ゴジラ対メガロオマージュとしてゴジラのキックが披露されたけど、あの頃の作品を「あれはないわ」で終わらせるのでなく、ゴジラのイメージを崩さずに説得力あるキックに昇華させてるところなど、考えた方、製作者のとんでもないセンスと才能を感じました。何を食べたらあんな発想生まれるの…もはや映画です。
このゴジラが推定ジュニアだと思うと感無量です。
背びれから地面に向けて体内放射してその振動と衝撃を利用してメガロにドロップキックするセンスと才能マジで感じた
今回のゴジラは技巧派って見せつけてからのドロップキックは納得いってしまう監督がハイセンスすぎる
熱線の応用はありそうでなかった
子供の頃にVSシリーズのファンだった身として、令和の今にこれほどの作品が見られるとは感無量です。
演出のところどころから感じられる細かな設定、過去作品へのオマージュ、ゴジラの戦い方の変化とアイディア…実に濃密でエキサイトした10分間でした。
This is definitely Junior alright… the only irrefutable proof we need is his flashing red eyes when he’s in danger. He seems to almost have Super Godzilla’s punch.
That godzilla drop kick was nice asf. Awesome reference to the original without making it look too goofy

I'm glad they gave megalom some legit justice
I love how unlike his father, he settles things calmly, Which makes him terrifying considering that amount of calmness poses big endurance, stamina and durability.
(You can also see how he knows to use his power which means he has been fighting off monsters on his own thats + EXPERIENCE, honestly W)
An additional is the fact that his opponents are literally probably continental/Multi-continental enemies or higher which megalon clearly showed. This guy can also produce beams that seems devastating, and he can also do the Minilla ring as seen in 6:34. Potentially the strongest godzilla when it comes to Abilities and intelligence.

I like that they turned that campy slide/drop kick from the original into something bad ass. The new ability of being able to focus his atomic energy into different appendages is interesting. I can only imagine what a charged tail smash would look like!

I love how Godzilla was able to channel his energy into new abilities like jump jets & the Rasengan. It's so cool seeing new additions to his arsenal, especially with the references to the drop kick in Showa Godzilla VS Megalon & Mechagodzilla's energy punch from Legendary Godzilla VS Kong.

The energy punch is most certainly not a reference to Legendary MechaGodzilla. It's probably a nod to Heisei Godzilla's ability of energy transferal which he used in vs MechaGodzilla and vs SpaceGodzilla. Makes much more sense given how this Godzilla is implied to be the adult form of Godzilla Jr.

Very nice job! I have a soft spot in my heart for Godzilla vs. Megalon. It was one of the first movies I remember watching over and over again 35 years ago, as my parents recorded a TV broadcast of it from WGN TV in Chicago. I do not dispute the original's reception and reputation...it's pretty bad. But, a kid doesn't care about those things, especially with limited entertainment options.
That's why it's so special to me to see Megalon treated with such care in your work. I appreciate the creative license you took where you did, and I love... LOVE that you kept the original sound effects. Fantastic work. Thank you so much for doing it!

The fact that G Junior did the infamous flying drop kick was a great shout out to the showa era. I also like that he used a nuclear pulse to propel himself to do it. His fighting sense is incredible.
白色の異常に強力な熱線や体内放射を応用した格闘や口内衝撃波、背びれの放出でジャンプする技の数々。
ジュニアが育ての親のバーニングゴジラの時のような体内炉心の暴走が起こらないようエネルギー効率を自己進化させた、ということなのかと考えると胸アツですね。
メガロの暴れ具合と比較するとゴジラは極力町を壊さないジュニアなりの配慮も分かって良いです。
前作の「VSガイガンレクス」の時もそうでしたが、勝負強さとここぞというときの機転や踏ん張り方が凄く「VSゴジラ」の系譜らしい。
自衛隊サイドも炉心の活動を抑える技術が定番化している描写があって地味に技術発展しているし、
そしてそんな炉心を弱らされながらもゴジラが出現しているのは、ガイガンの残骸に何らかの脅威があると警戒しての事なのだと、
この短い動画の中で分かり、戦闘シーンは勿論、メガロ出現の流れまで本当に全部が素晴らしい作品です。
I never thought I'd live to see a series exploring the timeline where Junior became the new Godzilla. I feel blessed.
Never thought I'd see the day Godzilla would use Atomic CQC
Once again, this team knocked it out of the park. The combination of live action with CG was a nice touch. Who knew Megalon could be this intimidating! Love the upgrades they gave Megalon while respecting the character, plus the design is fantastic. But, more than anything, it's nice seeing these old school fights done in a modern way.
The 9 year old kid in me who watched all the classic Godzilla movies from the Showa era & tried to recreate them is crying right now
I still have my original orange VHS case. I remember everything about the original from the goofy toy store segment to the ridiculous Seatopians. It was a slobber knocker of Kaiju with about the most satisfying amount of screen time along with Godzilla vs Gigan. This was a massive treat and revival of one of my favorite showa enemies.

Wow - as someone who literally grew up watching Godzilla since I was a toddler, this is wonderful. With the advancement in technology kaiju really start to become terrifying. LOOOOOVE they kept with the classic "man-in-suit" like design as a node to the classics. So happy to see this an look forward to more.

As a kid, I had a copy of the original Godzilla vs Megalon on vhs. I wore that tape down watching it over and over again. So glad to see this now as an adult.

@@salvucci91 they're just independent shorts. Started with the first one as contest winner and just progressed from there. Just something fun to watch homages to older, lesser used monsters but no connection to anything currently going on.

だけど刷新されたメガロのデザインやそれを配信する人の存在などは令和を感じさせるもの

今回はメガロの登場でゴジラが大暴れしていますが、もしかしたら散発的にゴジラは現れていたのかもしれませんね（それこそ地震や台風のように）。
平和な世界（今はちょっと現実も平和な世とは言い難いですが）に一石を投じ警鐘を鳴らすのがゴジラの役目。非日常過ぎてどこか現実として受け入れられず、正常性バイアスに陥っている令和の日本人に向けてのメッセージ性もあったりするんじゃないかなと、あなたの返信を見て思いました。

That was so goddamn awesome! Amazing work, I loved seeing the new tricks they each had up their sleeves, and that spin on the classic drop kick was so badass.
They did a fantastic job with Megalon, the wings and his drill-arms have never looked as amazing as they did here, he had an almost heroic vibe even.
I mean he is the "champion" of the seatopian people

The fact that a Heisei Reiwa Godzilla did a Showa blast of into the sky doing a sick dropkick towards Megalon was highly unexpected! But what can I say, Jr. learned from the best, and expanded his battle IQ
Still too ambiguous whether this Godzilla and Godzilla Junior being same kaiju but, best not to rule out such implication.

How did I just now discover this? Glad to see new content being made that at least harkens back to the 90's series of Godzilla films - by far my favorites.
This is probably my favorite gidzilla design ever. A massive improvement over legendary and minus one designs imo.
Eh, all 3 of them designs are equally great for what they are trying to achieve. Their designs reflect their characters pretty nicely IMO

If someone told me beforehand that Godzilla was going to do a dropkick, I would have expected something weird. But this was incredible. Every part of it was incredible.

It's nice to see Megalon getting a quality performance. Poor guy was basically a sidekick in his own movie originally (which, Gigan was, too, to be fair). This was such a cool use of his powers, from the heat blasts to the electrical bursts, and Godzilla doing the same with the atomic channeling.
Also the cheeky slide kick scene inclusion was just perfect. Bravo.
Eeyup, I liked seeing those innovative ways for Godzilla to use his powers.

Finally Megalon is given some spotlight and show its true power, in the end this was a hard fight for godzilla and i wish Megalon was in more shows
I love this rendition of Godzilla! We finally get to see the G-Man finally harnesses the atomic power within himself! We get to see some new techniques such as what I'd like to call them the Atomic Punch, Atomic Pulse to Dropkick, and Atomic Grip!

This did not disappoint! I liked how human perspectives were added - "vs. Gigan Rex", as amazing as that was, felt a little empty without the pedestrians. This short feels like its actually part of the world rather than just a setting for kaiju fights.
The glow-up to Megalon was magnificent, as well as the modern rendition of his abilities. This managed to overcome the original suit's campiness while still keeping it recognizable.
Godzilla looks as great as he did last year. I love the new abilities he depicted. It's funny; I had actually conceived a sort of "atomic punch/claw swipe" in a version of how I might do G, and to see it in action was awesome! And I had hoped this would have a version of the infamous flying-kick, but was worried it would break the more grounded/serious tone of this short. How it was depicted here managed to keep the hilarity while not breaking the tone (I actually had to pause and rewind at that moment just because I wasn't expecting it to be shown as such; it brought me such joy to see it preserved).

Very well said, I can definitely say the same here, I’m honestly really glad that they added humans into this rather than just having a kaiju battle in a deserted city, it really did feel empty without any people. I liked this film so much better than the last one, it’s a major improvement, the CG looks more realistic and the Megalon design is really badass, it’s the perfect modern rendition for him, I loved when Godzilla did the drop kick while flying, if that isn’t epic, I don’t know what is. That was a brilliant homage to the original Godzilla vs Megalon. These short films are just beautiful, We are definitely gonna be getting more of these in the future.
The animation is also a lot more polished, "vs Gigan Rex" had a lot of janky movements that really looked off, they're absent from here.
Absolutely disappointed
The flying kick really feels like a cross of the 1990s nuclear pulse and the beams from the back in Shin Godzilla, and looks like the tail slide kick from 1973 and the surprise "kangaroo" type kick in 1962 rolled into one. He's airborne once again, like 1971. His powers here are a good evolution of the nuclear pulse and seems to take inspiration from Legendary's movies in a way. It all reminds me of Godzilla Vs Kong's Mechagodzilla, bizarrely enough.

After decades of the fandom treating his debut film as a punchline, seeing Megalon get to kick some serious ass for his 50th birthday is *so* satisfying!
Megalon is such an underrated monster because his film was so corny. It's great seeing him get a revamp.

I can only hope the people behind these wonderful shorts one day get the green light for a full film, those CG Resident Evil and Starship Troopers movies seem to do well enough so it probably wouldn't be the biggest risk for Toho to make one (especially coming off of the successes of Shin and Minus 1)
10 minutes of pure awesomeness. This CGI Godzilla vs. Megalon short film, directed by Takuya Uenishi, is yet another ambitious kaiju project that takes the world of Toho’s Godzilla in a new direction. Excellent cinematography/battle choreography. And the dropkick… Awesome! Godzilla Gang on Top!
They even adapted the flying kick of doom, im proud of them.

最後のゴジラ目覚めのワンシーンは、大怪獣総攻撃の時みたいな、全てが無事に終わったと思わせてからの絶望感が久々に感じられてとても良かった
