    I have a 90 F250 that I replaced the 460 with a Cummings 5.9 12 valve. It came from a 94. I had to add a one tons leaf springs to the front end. Love the modify that I did and what you did. I would of done a standard transmission. Easy peasy. God bless you and your family brother! Waving a hand at ya from Arizona.

    You should do a video on measuring up or mocking up engine mounts for a swap.... I’m thinking of a 6.0 powerstroke in my squarebody....... that kind of info would defiantly help me. Especially since I don’t want to pull the the 6.0 out of my f250 just to see if I had room and if the leaf springs would hold it up

    you dont have to go z71 to get torsion bars. my grandma had a 2wd 2004 tahoe LT with torsion bars. i guess it was some sort of suspension upgrade package. I remember from the way she talked about them the salesman must have sold them as a smooth ride enhancement which may or may not have been a lie.

    1000 Allison also are in Chevy and GMC with 8.1L "496" gas .
    4x4s will also have the 263 or 261 XHD transfer case's.
    8.1 gas has the same drive train as a duramax.
    Just a Note, the Allison 2000 trans is not any better than the Allison 1000 , the 2000 is flipping noisier.
    It's the gears.
    I'm going to pull my 8.1L out later and put a Cat C7 in my 2001 Silverado 2500HD.
    There are actually 3 versions of 8.1L
    One is a detuned gelding from factory, rare and why GM was forced to do that was because the Allison trans where not available, that could withstand the torque.

    This is what i want to do to my truck. I currently have a 496 big block paired with Allison trans, Was going to take the 12 valve out of my 96 with only 176k miles on her in put it in my Chevy. That way i have the Cummins and Allison combo and i have the 2500HD frame. Kinda afraid to tackle this project i dont have a welder yet and have basic knowledge. Plus both of my trucks will be down at the same time

    • @spartan117m15
      @spartan117m15 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jake Gardner Its the compression ignition, diesel has more energy then petrol, the low rpms cause them to last longer and because diesel burns slower then petrol. Also because wasted exhaust energy in petrol engines is recycled for the turbocharger to force more air into the intake to burn the fuel more completely and efficiently

    Nice swap and great tutorial. I have an '04 2500 with the Duramax and Allison that the D-max has given up on. I have a '94 12v that I want to put in it's place. Your vid gives me great hope that I can get this done. Only problem I'm seeing is the Cummins needs about 34" front to rear and the engine compart only has 28" of clearance. Did you have to cut the fire wall or move the rad forward? Thanks in advance.

    • @DEBOSSGARAGE
      @DEBOSSGARAGE  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Gary Cook No, it fit fine but I had to move my trans back to the back trans mounting hole in the frame. I also had to cut some of the fins off my front diff to make the oil pan fit. If you have a body lift that won't be an issue but it fits pretty good.

    What did you use for a radiator in the truck? Did you get cruise to work? Any added work to the transmission? Aftermarket torque converter?

    • @DEBOSSGARAGE
      @DEBOSSGARAGE  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jim Keyes The Silverado rad is roughly the same as a Dodge. The Cummins never gets as hot as the 6.0l unless you are stuck in traffic. I did not get cruise to work. I tried putting the throttle linkage on the side of the injection pump but the truck still went into limp mode and then wouldn't move anymore. I found out about efilive later, and probably could make it work but I threw my contraption out. I didn't do anything to the transmission and it is holding up fine. I didn't crank the fuel on the cummins either though. Stock torque convertor but if you are going to do crazy pulling I would recommend a built torque convertor. It will be the first thing to go

    • @jimkeyes7883
      @jimkeyes7883 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Perfect! I thought about getting a duramax radiator, core support, and intercooler setup for a stock looking appearance. I thought about removing the stepper motor from the throttle body to use for a tps along with cruise and shutting all fuel injection controls with either efi or hp tuners.

    • @DEBOSSGARAGE
      @DEBOSSGARAGE  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      It should work. Set the stepper motor up like a paddle. When you turn the key on, it does a check so it actually spins backwards for a second before moving the right way. If you don't let it do a cycle, you will most likely throw another code. Are you using p pump or ve

      P-pump motor. who made your reluctor wheel mount on the crank to retain the factory tach? stock a/c lines work?

    • @DEBOSSGARAGE
      @DEBOSSGARAGE  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Jim Keyes The reluctor wheel is out of the scrap vortec. it is heat shrunk onto the crank so I heated it and pulled it off, measured the journal where it was on and machined a journal that fit on the front pulley, and heat shrunk the reluctor back on. I just made new mounts for the AC compressor and used the GM compressor. I machined the insides out of a Dodge 8 rib pulley, and then machined the 4 ribs off the GM compressor and heat shrunk the dodge ribs onto the GM compressor. CHeck out the 4bt Tahoe build. It explains a lot more in great detail. Thanks for watching

    • @DEBOSSGARAGE

      +cumminsfreak Yes< check timing. The Drive gear for the pump is not keyed and they slip sometimes. Do you know how to check the timing? Flywheel and pump? Make sure when you pop your gear off, you use a q-tip with rubbing alcohol on the taper of the gear to prevent it from slipping again. You are probably firing a tdc right now.

    The easiest 5.9 Conversion is use a 94/95 Dodge truck.
    Use a whole engine and transmission combination!
    The transmission standalone. Doesn’t it need to be wired into the vehicle.
    So buy the whole truck😁

    alot of people say use a Dial indicator in the number #1 injector hole.. but I dnt have a Dial indicator yet... the oil isn't glinty and the guy I bought it from said it was a rod knock... how do you check the timing at TDC

    • @DEBOSSGARAGE
      @DEBOSSGARAGE  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +cumminsfreak Dial indictor is the proper way. Some engines had the timing marks on the flywheel though and you could see them through a cover on the passenger side at the back. Your pump timing pin should be lined up when the proper degrees are visible through the hole. check out th-cam.com/video/gwepAWiP_m0/w-d-xo.html to find the pin i'm talking about and check the plate on the drivers side timing cover to see what degrees your engine should be set at stock. If you have no idea what Im talking about I can make a video but it wil be a couple months before I can get to it. Im waiting for a P Pump to pull in the driveway

    • @DEBOSSGARAGE
      @DEBOSSGARAGE  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      The pin is just to hold the pump from turning when you are removing the pump. Use a mirror and as long as you can see the tab pointing straight out, you know the pump is ready to fire on #1

      +DEBOSS GARAGE Need advice on what diesel truck to buy to tow my travel trailer...want a 2500 series..heard the 5.9liter Cummins up to 2007 was good but how is trans? if I do good maintenance, how many miles can I expect off a 5.9Cummins? all advice is welcomed!

    • @DEBOSSGARAGE
      @DEBOSSGARAGE  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Kenny A It was the earlier models that had a lot of issues with the trans. 47re I believe. The 5.9l Cummins is my recommendation for sure. I have seen the engines hit 1 million km but half that is usually when the trucks fall apart. If you delete your electronics on the engine and start modding the engine with larger turbos and injectors, the trans will be the first to go. Any Duramax after 2003 is also a reliable engine. They had some injector issues that were taken care of in 2003. GM is still running basically the same engine up until 2015. Whatever you do, DO NOT by a 6.0l, 6.4l, or 6.7l Ford. There is a host of problems with these engines, thats why the trucks are cheap. There are several companies like diesel conversion speacialists that make a very good living pulling these engines and replacing them with Cummins. Hope this helps!

      +DEBOSS GARAGE 6.0 and 6.4 Powerstrokes are fairly simple to be made reliable. I'd prefer the 7.3 still, but there's no reason to pass up a 6.0/6.4 if you can afford the bulletproofing.
      The 6.7, I haven't heard of many issues. It's used a lot in the commercial industry without complaints.

    Thanks , what about controller for trans i tried looking for the one you mentioned "coleman" not sure if thats correct , also i found adapter plates on ebay they look original like from bread trucks and such they say 6bt to chevy with flex plate and starters but not sure if those will work correctly , should i just go with diesel conversion specialist like yourself?

    • @DEBOSSGARAGE
      @DEBOSSGARAGE  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +guzlndzl Its a US Shift controller for Bauman. I used the same one on my 4bt Tahoe and made a video about tuning it. th-cam.com/video/TUls66H7syU/w-d-xo.html . You can use the adapter plate from a bread truck but they are meant for a 5 spd. You would still have to get a flywheel to fit and the setback would be wrong. Those adapter plates are also on a bit of an angle so your trans or engine will be tilted. I would just go with DCS if I were you.

    • @tommydmot7725
      @tommydmot7725 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nothing against a Dmax but thats just too many wires and computers for me. Its the main reason i fell in love with the Cummins engines. Now when you say they bolt right up is that with a Chevy bell housing and all the goodies inside of it or do i need a conversion.

    • @aaronhumphrey2009
      @aaronhumphrey2009 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stay with the 327. It's lighter, and properly refreshed/ rebuilt, will crank out 300- 350+ reliable HP with a few performance parts. Unless you haul heavy, don't bother with the heavier, under 200 HP stock Cummins.

    • @DEBOSSGARAGE
      @DEBOSSGARAGE  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I put 50 000 km on the torque converter and valve body. I blew a cooler line on the highway though and that finished off the trans. It still moved the truck but it was never the same. I'm in the process of switching it out to a NV4500 stick

    • @geriatricginger

      the 4L60/80E's are notorious for overpressuring (as you already know) and killing themselves.. the NV4500 is a great transmission, but IMHO, I think the 3-4 split is too far, especially if you'll be towing. The 5600 is great, as it bridges this gap nicely.. at the cost of 2x the price, though.. I've done a bunch of Dodge 47RH/E to 4500 conversions, and they're a piece of cake. Will you have to change the driveshafts again, or is the 4L60E and 4500 close enough to same length?

    Awesome job on the engine! How did you manage the electric fans? Did you wire them through the PCM or another way?

    • @DEBOSSGARAGE
      @DEBOSSGARAGE  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Quenson Johns The vortecs on both the Silverado and my cummins had a viscous fan. To overcome this I wired in a separate relay for both fans with a 180* sensor on the engine. When it hits 180, it goes to ground and turns the relays on. Works very well. I put a toggle switch in the cab to override the temp fan in case I'm pulling something heavy. No problems so far. Ill make a video in a bit on how to wire in a relay.

      Make sure your air filter is good. Its getting more fuel than air. It would be odd for something to change in the pump. Usually when a pump goes, you get less fuel and power.

    • @DEBOSSGARAGE
      @DEBOSSGARAGE  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +guzlndzl I bypassed pretty well everything. I unplugged the pump in the tank and ran a standpipe down below. Make sure it is in the fuel assembly housing so you utilize the check valves. You'll know what I mean when you get into it. I ran a new feed line with 1/2" air line hose because it is plastic and flexible and it is no problem running it in one length. The lift pump can pull the fuel easily that way. Bypass all the emissions crap on the return side and just run a new line back into the tank. Not much to it at all. If there is anything else I can help with, don't hesitate to throw me line.

      +Jay H I still used the gm 4l80E. The trans computer plugs into the valve body and tees into the speedo on the tailstock. That way the controller knows what speed the truck is doing and can tell the valve body what to do. The gauges work like they always did

Along with that my tape Bosses are starting to take off and might actually go big if a couple things fall into place.
